Errr I think it takes maybe 2-4 years on VH it's hard to get over the -20 penalty unless you are converting to orthodox and allying stuff like Wallachia and Bosnia, but I don't think these help vs. Ottomans much. Or unless there is some epic secret tech I'm not aware of

i usually just play on normal but idk. you can get Austria early well, within the first year or so if you play it smart but Ottomans usually wont attack you, and if you get lucky and somehow get Austria/Hungary/Poland which i managed once you can roll through them pretty easy though in practice. Unless Ottomans ally France or something
I've seen Austria+Hungary+Poland get absolutely smashed by Ottomans alone in the early game. The problem is that Ottomans have a ruler with 6 in mil, while Austria and Hungary both have 0 mil leaders iirc. Ottomans tend to get Mil5 before Austria gets mil3... Austria can get stackwiped in even number fights, it's absolutely brutal. It's not until about tech 7 that the western powers catch up in mil tech. Allying all of Austria/Hungary/Poland is pretty hard, as either Austria or Hungary is likely to rival Poland, unless they all collectively agree to hate on Bohemia.
You need those alliances more for deterrance than actually fighting the Ottomans. Maybe with good leadership you can fight them to a white peace with a strong web of alliances early, but getting any reasonable amount of land out of them doesn't seem very realistic.

I think Austria is 1-5-2 if i recall and hungary if they take the decision should be 4-4-5 poland is almost 100% 4-4-1 though, I've noticed Austria/Poland is possible but Austria wont help vs kebabs unless they have them rivaled, hungary is usually not possible though, it'll always be poland/austria or austria/hungary 99% of the time
Marco did it on stream, but it took several attempts until Otto gave him enough time to eat the balkan. Also he switched to Orthodox and back to Catholic to convert all that land via rebels. With the balkans cored and converted he had enough strength to get Austria+-plc. With that it was just a matter of waiting for the right time.
I've just started a colonization game and I need some insight, as I've never colonised before in EU4. I know colonial nations form once there are 5 colonies in a region, that they give you tarrifs and trade power and that they should field their own armies and colonise lands around them on their own. Are there any traps/tips/problems I should know of? I searched a bit on the web and people were taking about things like CN not colonizing at all or not building armies. Any info you can give me guys will be appreciated

I've never properly colonized, but if you want the easiest playthrough ever, move your capital to America. In order to do that, you need your capital to be the only province you own in that continent. For example, Portugal can move to Ceuta, then to America. Or if you're playing as one of the SE Asian OPMs, you can just move to America without any problems.

I was in the middle of my first world conquest try (ottomans), when the new patch came in. I loaded it, saved it, and it converted to the new patch, but for some reason my economy went from +17 ducats a month to -51. I didn't see anything in the patch notes that would suggest such a change. Any ideas?

Normally means none of the colonizers have actually discovered America, I've seen it go up to I believe it was around the 1550's before it spawned. I was under the impression its forced spawned at that point.

Id say quite late if you can somehow manage to cripple England/Portugal/Castile/France kinda early. Best done as France obviously. In my last game as France id managed to defeat Castile/Portugal and Union Aragon before 1500so id say its possible then, it depends also on what ideas England decides to take, odds being they start with Maritime or something stupid usually you can delay it for a long time. but like said above i think it has to spawn by a certain point to make way for the next thing

If I declare war on another country's colonial nation, does the country get to call all their allies to the war, or just their other subjects? They call all alllies, but if you can beat most of the mother country you're fine. Colonies cost an absurdly low amount of war score so you can take them as you please
