Champagne is pretty rich and inland (so bonus trade power with the merchant) I would guess its better to keep it there.

So I just did a Japan run that I had to stop at 1600 due to (I think) a bug. I played as Ando because I like colonizing/trade ideas. Uniting Japan was a pretty cool start, doesnt take long, but is a lot of fun. I play on hard, so it was pretty much just playing very opportunistic as getting alliances was very difficult as a small daimyo.

I played with Random New World for the variety, and this was awesome at the start, as I had some good trade routes to asia and some funny fantasy new world things. I decided to focus on conquering the new world first as I needed to grow more powerful to challenge Ming for the Chinese throne, my goal for this run (I could conquer ryukyu (ming tributary) via naval supremacy + guerilla tactics, but couldnt get anything else as all other countries were ming tributaries vs a ming with 3x my units). I couldve gone for south east asia instead, but wanted to mess around in the new world + malacca is all downstream from Nippon node, didnt want to move trade node for role-playing purposes ;-)

However, the moment that western powers started challenging my colonies, something really weird happened. They would declare on my colonial nations, but I would not get a call to arms. This is not normal right? This forced me to enforce peace (and not become war leader) or declare my own war to protect my CN. In the end my truces stopped overlapping with my CNs, leading to the europeans stealing complete 200+ development CNs in single wars that I couldnt even contest ... I stopped this save after that as it was really game-ruining. Anyway:

- Is not getting a CtA from a colonial nation being attacked by a major european power (not its colonial nation, the country itself) normal? This seems like a bug
- When my CNs were stolen, rebelled against the europeans and broke free they would spawn as random nations (e.g. CN07). They were still correct culture/religion so easy to re-conquer, but there were no cores and the CNs did not re-join me after rebelling. This was very stupid as well :-)
- My CNs went bankrupt 4 or 5 times, something I've never seen happen with a European colonizer/playing without random new world. This again seemed really weird, like a CN with 200 development and low authority would have an income of 5 ducats and 20 ducats in costs ... This even happened in fully colonized nations, i.e. nothing with wrong religion or wrong culture or high authority ... Like Japenese Australia went bankrupt with 3 gold provinces ... This really seemed like a bug as well
- Are there any new tricks to beating Ming? I had no good allies close by as everyone was a tributary/too small. I thought I would make him explode by getting 100% sea blockade while conquering ryukyu, but this didnt do shit, it hardly moved his war exhaustion even after like a 20 years blockade. The alternative to just outgrowing him (which is boring) is probably beating him a bit after global trade spawns and he has like 225% increased tech costs, but he never really fell behind tech, probably because of getting MP from tributaries. Any ideas/tricks for this to get the throne?

tricks to beating ming:
(stolen from reddit)
if ming has < 50 mandate they get:
+50.0% shock damage received
+50.0% fire damage received
-50.0% goods produced

having a bordering country that is not a tributary will decrease their mandate (apparently based on the development of said non tributary country).
there is also a special event decreasing mandate by a bunch if they are bordered by a >= 300 dev horde nation.

edit: so as japan you have to either grow big enough on your own for their mandate to drop below 50 or make a horde vassal at their border give them 300 dev and release them to force the event. or hope a swole russia comes creeping through sibiria and forms a border with ming.

The new building hud is soooo convenient, wow. I build temples and workshops within a second now instead of searching for a province that gets enough +income.
The only thing I want is for states and building tabs to show autonomy of the province.

Also I like the change to estates. Shinto was fairly boring so far though, expected a little more.

Correct. Did Castile -> Spain -> Great Britain (for HRE reforms) -> Italy (for ideas) -> France (for absolutism cap) -> Prussia (for more absolutism cap).

Result is 75% administrative efficiency in 1680s, combine with a 50% cost CB for:

is it just me or does this version seem incredibly bugged?
- Issues with CNs not giving a CtA when they are being attacked
- support heir losing all progress when you load your save after quitting
- demand unlawful territory often doesnt create a dead nation but instead removes their core and gives me a core instead + gives me the territory (I would re-release but their core is dead ...)

It seems they really fucked something up with vassals in general

and force religion peace deals dont seem to do anything ... Triggered a huge alliance chain with co-belligerents to force religion on 3 members of the empire, none of them actually converted

I've noticed that about CNs. South/Central America tribes would attack my colonies and all I could do was declare myself to save them. I've not tried to enforce peace which may work. Not a huge issue since I'd have to ferry troops over either way but it is strange.

Haven't tried supporting heir or demanding unlawful territory on 1.20 but that sucks.

I just finished my first game on 1.20 with Portugal, barely got mare nostrum and disbanded HRE. Most of the age abilities are useless, but the last few from age of revolution are ridiculously OP. Ignore coring cost distance, +3 siege bonus, permanent -20 something liberty desire for vassals. I've not noticed anything different with the absolutism mechanic. Never used the state edicts either, they only last 1-2 years and none of them are particularly useful in the short term with the exception of lowered unrest if you're overextended.

Also tried GH for the Gold Rush achievement, got it after multiple tries but I've no idea how to recover from my debts save for declaring bankruptcy. Great Khan seems very difficult with GH's shitty economy.

Any other interesting/moderately difficult achievements to try for? Preferably a run where multiple achievements are possible. I've done basileus and big blue blob, no WC yet.

Don't state edicts last until they're turned off and not only for 1-2 years? They have a cooldown of 1 year for changing to a different edict, but I'm pretty sure they last indefinitely.

Poland has several achievements you can do in 1 run.
If you cannot win with 100 apm, win with 100 cpm.

Better than Napoleon is pretty interesting, i've never managed Great Khan cause its a piece of shit to do, Mongolia is ass to do it as too

Switzerlake is pretty challenging and fun.

Or the Persia one i don't exactly remember what you Need to do, but starting with Qara, forming Persia and finally going head to head with the Ottomans/Muscovy/Commonwealth (if it forms) and before that the Mamluks and TImurids is pretty challenging.
