well, i wanted to take exploration, cuz i already force vassalized circassia, and need 1 province in asia from shirvan + 10 years + genoa to go up on tech to westernize. but should be done before 1500 easily
my plan was to contain muscovy (already rekt uzbek and fed them to kazakh, and only need to colonize 1 province to stop them from expanding) and either go asia+africa or fuck around in americas to keep game somewhat challenging by constant DOW on westerners. then i discovered taiwan doesnt get my culture and religion when i colonize it, cuz in this new patch, all trade company regions arent really for colonizing if ur ROTW. i found a thread on reddit that said if im not western rules wont apply to me, so i FF few years, but nope. i just quit at that point...

Haven't played in since Feb, is either Mare Nostrum or Cossacks worth getting?

Mare Nostrum is a giant pile of mehhh. I liked Cossacks more, but even that is tedious management to a degree. And unless they made favors generate faster, the diplomacy arguably got worse.

Thanks, decided not to get any DLCs. Any recs for fun challenges/nations to play? The only country I've played till the end has been Portugal, I know how to colonize and set up trade routes but am looking for something different and harder.
In my current Portugal game on the newest patch I'm running out of things to do. I've secured all the important trade nodes in Asia, SA, Africa, Caribbeans. I took Rome and Napoli, Tuscany is the #1 empire with all of Italy. I'm #2 right now only cuz of military. Year is 1750s ish and I don't have any motivation for finishing.
Also, did protecting trade in your home node get nerfed? I've noticed barely an increase in gold compared to 2-3 patches ago.

It's a sad day for Ornithologists.

FFS, the developer who decided to make "humiliate rival" the default CB ought to be castrated in the most painful way imaginable

was playing on the new patch and fought three wars with that CB before realizing I couldn't take provinces .

Bonus morale for victorious armies has got to be the worst update this game has had.
edit: apart from forts ofc

The worst is when your troops end up stuck in a province for no reason. Or when you enter a province and then can't move back into the province you came from and instead have to march around 10 provinces to get out.

The more and more I learn about Rights of Man (the name of the new expansion) and 1.18, it looks like it will be on par or better than Art of War. I really like the new institution and tech systems. Much better solutions than putting non-European nations behind from day 1.
Also, RoM releases just before Civ6 does (and most likely a Stellaris patch around the same time as well). Rip any free time

pretty much excited for next expansion.
also tried great khan achieve, figure golden horde is a better spot than mongolia but idk how youre supposed to expand early, since for sure atleast 1 ai will ally timurids and no way to beat them early unless they explode

Can anyone please confirm that the emperor (austria) is eligible to inhrit Burgundy when the event fires even if he is in a war with Burgundy? I've read anything from yes to no to only if burgundy hasn't occupied anything from the emperor. It's confusing

It's confusing I think if i recall it goes to whoever the emperor is and can fire any time they are at war or losing, all german territory goes to austria french to france
but ive also read whoever is at war with them besides france cant get it so itll go to next most eligible german state(usually an elector with a rm) .
in general i just know they have to be on the losing end of the war for it to happen though

If emperor has <8 provinces or is AT WAR with France then Spain/Castille inherit (if has at least 6 provinces) and if that is not true a random HRE country that has marriage with Burgundy inherit. That assumming non human players beacuse computer will always take inheritance i think but human player gets option to refuse.
