Haha indeed, I remember playing months on end and probably only reached 75%, hence why I offered.

Will you be streaming the GT4 run by any chance?

I discovered something that pretty much killed the run before it started: you need to do all the amateur and professional events before doing extreme, so I estimate it to take like a day or two now instead of like 3-4 hours

I just don't have the time to do that hahahaha

So I'll most likely be Speedrunning Braid and Another Perspective on ESA 2014. The final cut is not made yet, but Braid seemed to be well received last year and I can do all the pro stuff now. Moreover, the creator of "Another Perspective" is coming to ESA to comment on my run, and since it is such a short game I think it will be included.

I've also been speed-running 140 which is a lot of fun for some reason, but it was not selected for ESA. That game is very new for me and current PB is pretty bad.

Just did an initial speedrun of Auto Modellista

1:51:06 with like 10-15 mins of mistakes heh

I think I've discovered a new route as well, which could cut down the run by a few more minutes

Cut it down to 1:36:04 in my second run

Basically I rush to get the toyota s800 engine swapped with a 2JZ, which pretty much turns it into a caterham r500 that goes 200mph and laps suzuka in 1:45~ (13 seconds off F1 lap record). Its power to weight ratio is .217 which is the same as a Ferrari F12 Berlinetta.

Nice, short and interesting game! Could have more potential! But I like, that you can see your (speedrunning) time automatically

I finally got a little bit of time for Blood of the Werewolf! While I still/already hate it, because of stupid "savepoints" it has potential to be a good game for a speedrun! Let's see if I find the time to get to the point where I will not die all the time...

Felt so good, though there's still room to improve still.

It's an... interesting game, cars handle so weirdly but that's half the fun.

A few things that I figured out are that you can skip the scene before every race where the camera hovers over the grid to show all the cars, which saves probably 5 seconds each race, and that making the front suspension as hard as possible and the rear as soft as possible makes cars have absurd amounts of grip, which means that some corners can be taken much faster and save as much as a couple seconds per lap on some tracks. Oh yeah and riding the outside walls all the way on the dirt oval is way faster than actually trying to drive it regularly, you get zero grip on that track.

I don't think the WR was guaranteed even if he hit all of his Bowser throws, it certainly might have been close though. It really all started going down hill with the monkey, Sig was clearly nervous after TTM. Wigglin and Jigglin in that seat of his no doubt, don't blame him.

I want the following to exist:
  • Competitive Super Mario speedrunning.
  • Four events per year
  • Difficult levels to play on, to test the skills of the players.
  • Designed specifically for the event.
  • Players are given access to the new level two weeks before the event.

I love watching the tool assisted speedruns of mario levels designed to be almost impossible to complete outside of computer assistance. And watching TAS of regular mario gameplay is almost boring because it's too perfect, there is no challenge and Mario barely even interacts with the environment. I'm sure that if talented humans are left to their own devices, without computer aid, they too could trivialize normal Mario and it would feel like a slight mismatch in terms of difficulty level vs capability. Creating new levels would solve this, and also can potentially reward brilliant level designing.

And of course there could be categories, so it's not only Mario.

Well, now I tell you, I never seen good come o' goodness yet. Him as strikes first is my fancy; dead men don't bite; them's my views--amen, so be it.

There are a lot of Super Mario World Romhacks that are very, very difficult. Kaizo Mario comes to mind, which Dram is currently speedrunning. Check out one of his runs, it's pure entertainment. :D

Like, why doesn't MLG have a speedrunning competition where they have three top players come over and try one of those maps? You could show funny clips of people in the audience massively failing at it and so on.

Not to be unfair, but super mario speedrunning becomes slightly less impressive once you realize that they only have to push one key. You always run forward and only have to time jumps.

Yeah, but the timings and overall optimization are absurd. Any% is an incredibly hard WR to break.

4 hours of the FFIX speed run is alternating pressing X then Square to be fair.

Every speedrun has it's own special challenges. The best speedruns don't look like much! But try to do it yourself and see the hardship you are faced!

Complete optimization is rather difficult of course, just like how in Starcraft II many people can macro decently well but wouldn't stand a chance vs a pro player because of a million subtle differences in ability. But I think it becomes too obvious that Mario as a game falls apart if you subject it to speedrunning. I would personally much prefer watching kaizo mario over the regular mario because it seems like the former is designed with speedrunning in mind.
