Medieval 2 easy the best in variety and actual differences in between nations. The kingdoms expansion was also top notch. I can't stand shogun and the lack of different units much like empire in that regard byt without guns or cannon mostly.

people give rome 2 to much crap for no reason. Just use the radius mod and enjoy games for once.

Vanilla + mods provide a lifetime and a half of entertainment already. As much as any other TW game.

Still haven't tested my game yet post-patches, sorry. Work and Skyrim have kept me busy.

I like the game right now despite hating it at release, feel a lot has been fixed and what isn't is similar to other TW games.
Could still have been better obviously.

Now just gimme a mod that removes walls in sieges (because the AI cant deal with it).
Either we are alone in the Universe or we are not. Both are equally terrifying.

there is a mod that removes all capture points , even during the sieges, people say that impove AI behavior, i haven't tested it, so cant confirm it.

I'm going to wait until divide et impera is ready for patch 9 before i fully commit, but yeah i tried it out and it is much better.

Personally though, i still think there are design flaws at the heart of the game that will stop the campaign from ever being anything but boring.

Alright, vanilla feels too annoying for me. Siege AI is still entirely broken (no attacks), replenishment is way too fast and the agent spam annoys me.

Time to test it with Divide et impera.

However patch9 really did improve field battle AI and performances for me.
Either we are alone in the Universe or we are not. Both are equally terrifying.

Kind of enjoy it with the patches, don't find it too boring.
The siege AI is ok-ish, some fights the AI actually seems to know what it's doing and on others ...not so much.
Field performance is better than before, they wait for reinforcements to join up with their main army and try overwhelming you instead of going in 1 by 1.

When they have a double army against my single one they do very much seem to keep some units in reserve and go for your "weak" ones like the ballista's and archers if you use them.

The agent spam does annoy me a bit yes, their agents are seemingly able to spam successful attacks on my armies constantly whilst mine have a whopping 3-4% success chance.

Other concern is maybe that you get to develop really strong units quite fast if you beeline them.
Makes the start up phase somewhat bland once you get them.
Although an arbitrary lock until you research other technologies maybe isn't very fun either.

there's still so many issues... decided to start a new campaign today, for some reason some of my brushes look like screwed up newspapers and whenever i move my camera down onto the ground between shrubbery, my frames drop into an abyss.
also, i recently set up my second monitor and if i minimize rome once, the cursor will no longer be confined to one screen. so i cant use my mouse for scrolling to the right. the desync issues in coop multiplayer are also still there. i think i'll start playing shogun2 coop again.

Edit: damn, watching the video anax posted made me sad. made me realize again how much i loved previous total war games (even fucking empire) and how much of a letdown rome 2 was. fuck CA, why couldnt you get this right?

Yeah I dont know how the managed but they lost the textures off of several trees on the battle maps. Causes a lot of slowdown.

one thing i was wondering, does anyone here get the hang of naval battles? i suck so much at it. the ai constantly manages to flank me and sink my ships in like 2 rams, while i am completely overwhelmed by the amount of shit happening.

not really, I don't build many fleets though, usually just one to aid attacking armies and pick off straggler armies that run away via ocean when I take their settlements.

The one I do use is chock full of siege and assault ships, when I do get attacked I usually just auto resolve it.
In contrast to land battles which I pretty much all do manually.
Much like yourself, the few times I've tried I was horrible at it.

I just make a handful of siege ships, and then nothing but ranged ships. I clump my shit together and I've only ever lost a few ships that got rammed. Most of the time the massive amount of arrows can kill all the enemy crews before they can get in range.

yup, seems to work fine.
Don't build many fleets like I said though, especially during early game the upkeep from ships is quite hefty fo the times you get to use them.

and !#$@!@#$@$ at my current Macedon game, why do some really small tribal states insist on declaring war and never suing for peace even after I annihilate all the current armies they have.
I do not want to take their remote shitty city next to Scythia at this time at least but they refuse peace constantly with 0 armies left.

They are keeping 1-2 armies tied up that I need for Asia minor, oh well maybe I'll just take them out and take the long route via Scythia and Cimmeria etc to Asia.

Didn't read all the patch notes but did they buff Carthage or something ?, they seem to not only survive but even grow strong during pretty much all my games now, same for the Averni.
Rome still get's taken out by everyone in most games though.

The graphical bugs are fixed but they were never the problem. Rome2's problems are waay more deep-rooted, in the gamedesign that simply cant be patched or modded out, such as the retarded army-system. It works in a M&M Heroes game but not in a TW game.

I agree. There's just nothing to do on the campaign map except move armies around. That doesn't make for a fun campaign. They need to fix the politics so it links with the rest of the game, and they need to fix the godawful civil war mechanic so you are always at the threat of civil war. If you become emperor rebellion should always be on the cards. If they develop some seriously powerful mod tools it could be fixed to a degree, but i doubt that they would want to do that.
