I haven't played RTW2, but you might find what you are looking for in the modding community of RTW1. You can start here

If you want to play a game that's perfect as it is, without mods, go for Medieval 1 Total War. I myself have not been able to run that on modern windows though.

Shogun 2 is my favorite for Vanilla experience or Vanilla aesthetics/balance mod. It's heavily criticized for it's narrow scope (every clan using the same units and the map being only Japan) but in my opinion it's by far my favorite in terms of quality (gameplay, visuals, UI, atmosphere, polishing). Even if it's my favorite, it still has issues though (especially naval battles and AI). I thought Rome 2 was going to be mostly Shogun 2 with different models and a bigger scope and then just try to improve some elements. What a disappointment. Been a while I haven't tried Rome 2 again though, maybe patches help.

I think they just did too much at once but as with most games from this series the developers will keep patching it and the modding community will make this game way better.

I heard it was a bug-riddled mess at launch, thats why I didnt get it at first, so is the game "fixed" or is it still broken?

It's much better than at launch, but it's not the game that many of the more fanatic fans wanted it to be. I think it's a good game, it can be entertaining for quite some time if you don't play to deeply. And always play with Radious Mods enabled, you should never try vanilla. I'd give it around 100 fun hours before the flaws become to obvious (and that's likely not going to be enough to finish your first campaign)

I guess I'll check some gameplay videos first, thanks for the response. (just realised its 55€ on steam, if the sale isnt by like 80% it wont fit in my budged anyways, so I might get RTW1+Expansion again, since I lost my disc >_>)

What is the best Total War? if you want a slow game and are interested in historical accuracy, RTW - Europa Barbarorum if you like a faster game I suggest M2TW - Stainless Steel

People like to make a fuss but the game is still pretty good on its own legs. Id play vanilla and only mod if there are things you truely cannot stand.

Mind you, this is only one siege so far for me but man that was disapointing.

However the siege battle at Rome (walls) I played was still terrible, AI sent 2 units with Ladder which I killed and then proceded to turn in circles at their starting position. I just waited the timer to run off. Mind you, this is only one siege so far for me but man that was disapointing. Reminds me of Rome 1 AI, "plants units on wall, sees player running units to other wall, keeps unit in original position". Or my personal favorite "player has captured all archer towers, proceed to run unit up and down walls losing 1/3-1/2 to newly captured archer towers" I think Im just gonna stick with Rome 1, which is a shame, I was very happy to see the way Shogun 2 really improved on Shogun 1(lol archers being useless in Shogun 1 after having no ammo, even though its more a generic total war update rather then specifically the shogun flavor). But I really don't like the way this one is turning out to be. Damn shame, I usually pay no attention to pre-release info because its normally cut/changed/not at all how they portray it.I did pay attention to this and got my hopes up, but after seeing the direction they're going with the "enhancements" Ill just stick to Shogun 2/Rome 1. To the other poster who asked which one was best: IMO!!! Rome 1/Shogun 2 are tied as my favorite Total War games. Rome 1 for its huge conquerable map/unit visuals depending on the country the soldiers were from and Shogun 2 for the modern visuals like the motion capture they used for the unit attacks/UI fixes & updates.
