Jesus, i've been busy reading Rome 2 stuff instead of watching some Homestory Cup , shameful display indeed, they made me go instanely fanantic, waiting to things to be fixed. No more i say, no more.

For those who wonder why patch is so large, is because new DLC incoming, Bakrtria Aparently. Maybe few other easter factions.

Seeing some new Eastern factions would be cool; there needs to be a little more unit diversity. However, I think the West needs fixing first. Too many of the barbarian factions blow. The East is already the best part of the campaign.

Not sure what it means and that irks me.

Well, the only thing that I noticed with the new patch is that the imperium levels and army/navy/agent caps are different. If you were maxed out before, then you may be over the caps post patch, which will take care of itself in time. The only other thing that may change that I can think of is AI behavior.

Xxio is correct at least on earlier patches. My original Macedon campaign still ran slow as junk in the early-mid-game despite having a couple patches in place; a new Rome campaign was a much more pleasant experience. Depending on how early of a version we're talking about, it may not be compatible with the newer patches.

Xxio, it depends on how far along in said campaign you were. If you were close to the end-game, it'd be understandable why you're hesitant. But if you were even in the mid-game, I'd suggest just starting a new one, perhaps with another faction.

But then there will be patch 8 and 9 and 10 and if I've already played the cool factions, they'll be stale and boring by the time the game is finally as it should have been at release. So I'll have spoiled them.

Game is playable by now. Not fully optimized, but you can get through a campaign comfortably.

Are the AI still as horrible as it was when the game came out?

Haven't played it in over a month and a couple of patches have come out since, with patch 7 coming soon

I don't want to start up the game again before I know that the AI have at least been made better, if not perfect (one can only hope).

So what have they fixed in the last month and is the game worth its price now?

well,since the release i only played one full campaign, every patch i start a new one, and nothing really changes. And i use mods, vanilla for me is unplayable . Try all the Radious Mods, TTT traits mod, GEM on realistic / True color, maybe few other small tweak graphical mods. Mods really just do cosmetical changes, battles last a bit longer, with Radious its quite challenging , since 1 province AI can make up to 4 full stacks of army, as Rome first war with Carthage could be pretty epic with alot of action , since Lybia does help them, at least for me it did, he alows more armies on campaign map, making it much more interesting. On the other hand the problem persist, A.I is at the moment the bottleneck , if we exclude things like almost nonexistant inmersion. Despite all this i played almost 100 hours. But if i met myself at the release, i would've stoped myself from buying this , and i would trust myself

Siege AI is still atrocious, I've seen ladders stuck in the field and troops stuck on walls. This is for possibliy every enemy siege attack I've choose to play out. Anyway.... Anyone tried the Parthia campaign? Its insanely hard and the starting position isn't very ideal.

Last time i played Parthia was just after release so things might have changed but I had success with army's of median cavalry. 9 orso units of them will smash all the army's you meet early on. The biggest problem is imo the horse armies to the north who were just spamming unless stacks of horse archers which are an utter pain.

I would've guessed with spamming cavalry and horse archers, that is just exploiting the AI even more. Kiting with horse archers is not very fun after a few battles.

I have always wondered why the battering ram need to be pushed and cannot just move by a garrison of men inside it.

In fact I have quite a beef with how the siege weapon thing work. Why does it take a year just to build 4 ladders? The ladders should be a standard issue in any siege battles (maybe make them instant build after a tech is researched). The option to build additional siege equipment should offer more varieties, such as the ability to build ranged weapons like the ballista, which does the job far better than even the siege tower - just a glorified ladder.

On Parthia:
Parthia is a *really* weird fraction to play as. Cataphracts are actually terrible units: they are *slow*, and their high armor is greatly offersetted by their terrible defense. Noble horseman line actually beat the cataphracts 1 on 1.

This may have to do with how cataphracts are classified as shock cavs instead of regular very heavy cav. Shock cavs should hopefully see a good boost in power since patch 7 gave units looser spacing + cav units trying harder to disengage: allowing you to charge one band of units after another.

They are very interesting to play on open field battles: using horse archers to kite and scatter and enemy then charging them with your cavalry units over and over. Siege battles is another story: cavalry units are not meant to charge through a broken gate and try to break through the blob of men guarding the entrance.

Speaking of unit blobbing, personally I am fine with how it is. Battlefields are supposed to be somewhat disorganized.

Missile units really hurt in patch 7. Peltasts and javelinmen shred pretty much anything if left alone. It is actually worth using the skirmisher units now.

That's how its supposed to be imo. Archers were only good for flaming arrow which /do no damage but applies a morale penalty to... everyone. Javelins can do "some" damage but runs out of ammo too quickly to justify bringing them instead of another group of melee units.

Not to mention everyone has access to the most powerful range unit in the game early game in the form of the ballista. I hope with the change to archers, they will be at least comparable to ballistas against units. Ofc, the ballista can remain better vs densely packed units and also act as a powerful tool to break up enemy formation.

In earlier patches I can easily take on a full fleet of archers/javelins/slingers that has landed ashore with just a single group of basic infantry (citizen hoplite) even on Legendary.
