So according to you guys patch 5 is the one to start playing R2TW ? Or should I still wait a couple more weeks
Either we are alone in the Universe or we are not. Both are equally terrifying.

Yes, I would say it is. Game is fun and functional at this point. I don't think a 6th patch has been announced yet.

They said that the 7th is already in development, meaning the 6th is in internal testing.

We don't have release dates for those yet, do we?

Are we played the same game ? I mean, even after patch 5 this is not even to close to be enjoyed properly, its still a basic skeleton with a lot of posibilities, yet to be uncovered, i mean, even with all the mods untill the moment its pretty boring, but hey, eveyrone got its own standarts. You should try it, play a campaign once, and thats it, thats how i see this game atm, like a campaign each month or two, multiplayed game here and there if you enjoy that in comprasion to SC2 lets say , untill some big mod comes out, first one gonna be Total Realism mod , if im not mistaken.

Have you tried Radious's overhaul mod yet? I hear it's supposed to be very exhaustive.

damn the Seleucids seem really nice, haven't had much time to test them due to social obligations last weekend but the roster looks awesome.

May have missed it in the patch notes but did they up the " random event" chance ?
When I was trying the Seleucids it seemed I had an event pretty much every other turn.

Still have to figure out which way to go with them from the start, after 10 turns or so most of your satraps are gone except for Sardes and Media (I think) ,they are a loyal bunch.
First try I focused on Cyprus and west only to see Persia and others swarm down on Media and me form the east.
made a mistake on that one anyway, wanted Cyprus provinces but in doing so Egypt also becomes a new war front.

I wonder why there is no possibilty for a small campaign, like in Shogun II. Game just gets kinda lenghty and boring after the civil war. Playing as Epirus right now and theres not really anything that can stop me at this point. But still I have to conquer 140 settlements for military victory, thats insane. Also nobody wants to ally me no matter what money I give them. So I gotta do it all on my own.

Also the cultural victory doesnt make any sense to me. You have to have 1 settlement in per province with your culture but thats 45 provinces. You actually get to conquer more than with military victory.

I've never tried it but can't you use dignitaries to spread your culture too?

Well yes thats true I have to test that. Still your agents would have to stay in that province all the time because its going to get converted back otherwise.

Simple solution: Stop playing after you think you have won and start a new campaign if you want to. Why would you waste your time tediously conquering province after province when you don't think it is fun?

I know I actually didnt touch the campaign for 2 weeks but I still want some kind of finish. Thats why I liked the short campaigns in Shogun II.

I did try it, it makes combat more enjoyable yes, but then you come back to the campaign map, and I personaly, feel like its empty. At start it was ok, but then i tried europa barbarorum for rome 1 (before rome 2 i never played it, just played plain total war games with no mods) and now its just not the same Maybe its me and my preferences for something more then battles from total war game, i do like battles thats major, but you need story, characters, some kind of background, not dull pretty map and pointless missions, thats my taste however, i do get the multiplayed part of this game, howeever i much prefer get some games in sc2 for that, i looking for single player exp, like the one EB provides.

A perfect demonstration of how battles have gone seriously downhill since Rome 1.

Close combat mod fixes that problem. There really isn't anything to fix the formation attack seeing how thats kind of the point. to keep the units in formation.

I don't really understand why people have a problem with them fixing the "move past the enemy to instantly flank them" exploit that was in every previous total war game.

Nomadic Tribes culture pack DLC is out on Steam, if you download it before october 29 it will stay with you forever(for free instead of being 7€ and equivalents) so be fast and activate it on your steam ^^

I was hoping they'd do something like this to as a gift for us that bought it early and have had to suffer all the bugs ^^

I didnt play rome 2 for the past couple weeks since i figured i'd better wait till the game gets patched. Today i logged into steam and it downloaded the updates for rome as well as the nomadic tribes pack and now the game keeps crashing on startup. I tried verifying integrity of game cache and everything and it still keeps crashing. anyone having the same problem?
edit: Okay nevermind i'm dumb and forgot that i had the old version of radious's mod installed.

I have not played Rome 2 but a method that worked in Rome / M2TW with horse archers is attack a city with absurdly few horse archers to bait defenders into sallying (something like 1:2 battle odds in their favor should provoke a sally). Then since horse archers are OP you totally slaughter the defenders and take the city.

with defense, you first use your heavy cav to take out isolated foot archers (which are quite good vs horse archers). then surround the enemy with horse archer. if you need to conserve ammo then only shoot enemies in the back.

(for those that play EB, this is the way to win the Pahlava campaign which in my opinion is one of the more difficult ones in that mod. elite hybrid horse archer / shock cavalry general bodyguards that are well-armored are pretty balanced.)
