I mean, even after patch 5 this is not even to close to be enjoyed properly, its still a basic skeleton with a lot of posibilities, yet to be uncovered, i mean, even with all the mods untill the moment its pretty boring, but hey, eveyrone got its own standarts. You should try it, play a campaign once, and thats it, thats how i see this game atm, like a campaign each month or two, multiplayed game here and there if you enjoy that in comprasion to SC2 lets say , untill some big mod comes out, first one gonna be Total Realism mod , if im not mistaken. Have you tried Radious's overhaul mod yet? I hear it's supposed to be very exhaustive.

May have missed it in the patch notes but did they up the " random event" chance ? When I was trying the Seleucids it seemed I had an event pretty much every other turn. Still have to figure out which way to go with them from the start, after 10 turns or so most of your satraps are gone except for Sardes and Media (I think) ,they are a loyal bunch. First try I focused on Cyprus and west only to see Persia and others swarm down on Media and me form the east. made a mistake on that one anyway, wanted Cyprus provinces but in doing so Egypt also becomes a new war front.

Also the cultural victory doesnt make any sense to me. You have to have 1 settlement in per province with your culture but thats 45 provinces. You actually get to conquer more than with military victory.

Playing as Epirus right now and theres not really anything that can stop me at this point. But still I have to conquer 140 settlements for military victory, thats insane. Also nobody wants to ally me no matter what money I give them. So I gotta do it all on my own. Also the cultural victory doesnt make any sense to me. I've never tried it but can't you use dignitaries to spread your culture too?

Simple solution: Stop playing after you think you have won and start a new campaign if you want to. Why would you waste your time tediously conquering province after province when you don't think it is fun?

Thats why I liked the short campaigns in Shogun II.

I did try it, it makes combat more enjoyable yes, but then you come back to the campaign map, and I personaly, feel like its empty. At start it was ok, but then i tried europa barbarorum for rome 1 (before rome 2 i never played it, just played plain total war games with no mods) and now its just not the same ![]()

A perfect demonstration of how battles have gone seriously downhill since Rome 1.

I don't really understand why people have a problem with them fixing the "move past the enemy to instantly flank them" exploit that was in every previous total war game.

with defense, you first use your heavy cav to take out isolated foot archers (which are quite good vs horse archers). then surround the enemy with horse archer. if you need to conserve ammo then only shoot enemies in the back. (for those that play EB, this is the way to win the Pahlava campaign which in my opinion is one of the more difficult ones in that mod. elite hybrid horse archer / shock cavalry general bodyguards that are well-armored are pretty balanced.)
