The game's starting to become quite playable. Not that i would have ever finished a campaign yet, but i enjoy the early and mid game quite a lot with the good mods out there.

He doesn't know what hes talking about. The best mods I think are the small ones. Italoca difficult or something is pretty good. Close combat is light and tight fixing really the only core problem of the battles them selves. There are an all in one mod coming togeather. I really like the massalia and estrucian reworks that are being developed.

Well, I think my legendary Seleucid campaign is about to go down in flames. I'm only about 70 turns in, and civil war just broke out. Between the Seleucid nobles and all of the other factions that I was already at war with, I'm outnumbered about 5-1 in terms of full stack armies. I'm not sure why the devs would let civil war break out when you are already at war with everyone and just getting by.

I want a mod that removes consequences from it.

If one could avoid the civil war by very careful manipulation and strenuous use of resources, I'd be cool with that. It's too railroady to me, compared to the realm divide in Shogun 2.

I'm back from vacations, going to try a new campaign now

Just started playing Rome 2 again. Seleukids are actually pretty challenging. All my mates except Sardes declared war on me and are allied. On top of that pretty much alle eastern factions declared war on me aswell. I managed to spread my empire to persepolis but Iam at war with like 15 factions lol. This ist going to end well I think.
I tried the new nomad factions aswell but like with the other barbarian factions I dont really like them.

Tried royal scythia, horse archer are great but not when its against other horse archers, which is pretty much whats early game is all about, so i'm going to try another faction.

The Seleucid campaign is hard, but manageable until you get to the civil war. You need to take out Egypt immediately and make nice with the Greeks and Asia Minor factions. You are going to be at war with everyone east of Media soon enough regardless of what you do, so you have to get ready for it by rapidly expanding your economic base and unlocking tier 3 barracks and tier 4 stables. In fact, don't even bother researching any civil techs until you have those key military techs. Killing off Egypt is easy. Just blitz Cilicia and then go right down into Nabataea once you have killed off Cyprus. Keep going until you take Egypt's last provinces in Libya. After that, make nice with your Arab and African neighbors, and get ready for a long, brutal war in Mesopotamia against everyone. You'll be outnumbered in just about every fight, which is why you need your higher tech.
What I haven't figured out yet is how to deal with the civil war. In my last game, it erupted before I had finished off campaign against the eastern factions, and I was underdeveloped militarily. In my new game, I'm being more deliberate about my expansion so as to maximize my strength before expanding enough to where a civil war becomes possible.

Random question: about how often do you guys auto-resolve battles? Most of the time? Rarely? Percentage? 'Cause for me in the early game, I play out battles because it's incredibly easy to win and I don't lose nearly so many troops, but it's time-consuming in the late game....

Any time I got at least 70% odds and not interested to play the battle. I don't like siege, defending siege, and when my army comp is boring. I like to test new units though.

Just know that you should never auto resolve with elephants. You'll lose them every time.

CA still hasn't fixed the issue that plagued the serious since MTW2. When the AI actually uses their siege weapons during a siege, in this case ladders, the rest of the army just sits at the default location where they spawn while the units that are equipped with siege equipment move into location and get slaughtered. I actually had to leave city walls to attack them, it doesn't make sense because I never choose to sally forth. And most of the time they just ignore their siege weapons and burn the gate instead.

Actually Egypt is one of the few factions which leaves me alone. The guys you are at war with in the beginning (quidri or sth like that) offered me 3k for peace so I accepted and started building infrastructure in Syria. However, after ~7 rounds all my allies left me and declared war and started allying with each other. I expanded down to persia but now Iam to spread out to defend everything and have low income :/
In the civil war you always have to sack some cities. I dont know if they fixed the siege AI with some of the patches but when I played my epirus campain it was really easy to defend against 3 full stack armys with just one because they always ran through the burning oil gates.

I'm not sure why you would want to leave Egypt alone. They're an easy target, they have great lands, and they have basically no allies to speak of other than the Nabataeans. If nothing else, holding Petra and Egypt should provide for a very defendable position when civil war breaks out.
My new Seleucid campaign is going well. I'm holding Syria, Cilicia, Mesopotamia, and Egypt as well as a few settlements and capitals in Nabataea, Libya, and Arabia. I have strong alliances with the Greek states and Pontus. I'm also allied with the Qidri. All of them have done a good job sending armies into the shitstorm that is Mesopotamia to fight the eastern hordes. They also are doing a much better job battling Armenia, which is quickly becoming one of my least favorite states in the game. Bunch of assholes. I have three full-stack tier 3 infantry and tier 4 cavalry armies and two half-stack armies. I'm mostly holding steady right before imperium level 3 (or whichever one gives you 12 armies) while I tech up to tier 4 infantry and otherwise build up my economic base. No point risking another civil war until I'm ready for it.
On a side note, for some reason the Seleucids can recruit units from the Eastern military buildings. In fact, one of the tier 3 Eastern military buildings gives you access to your tier 4 infantry and heavy Syrian archers. I think it's same for lower tier military buildings, too. A level 2 Eastern building = a level 3 Seleucid building.

Its not like I want to leave them, Iam forced to do so since Iam at war with pretty much everyone except them. But Iam going to start over I think since my position is just incredibly bad.

Egypt has 2 very secure and prosperous provinces so I don't see why, beyond the threat of weak nomadic tribesmen attacking your flanks from the Red Sea.
