That being said, it looks amazing. However, I was a little disappointed that the battle AI didn't look much better than previous games. I suppose there's not much you can do to make a game battle look 'organic', but it's always a little immersion breaking to see 2 guys hop out of a siege vehicle ahead of everyone else and not be immediately mowed down; instead, the soldiers behind them stand at guard while they fight pretty much 1 on 1. Maybe I expect to much -_- It's pre-alpha LOL. Not even remotely close to what to expect.
And I think TW has done a great job of being as realistic as possible. It's never going to be 100% realistic, but TW is getting closer and closer to political reality.

Lead designer interview.
Loved playing as the Seleucids back in Rome I. Had all the special units: chariots, cataphracts, those darned elephants, heck they even stole legionaries by the endgame, lol!

^ Rome, Carthage and now Macedon have been announced.

Ohhhh, darn you, lol. Beat me to it. >.<
Yay Greeks! No mention of Sparta at all. Maybe there will be a second (or even a third?) Greek-based faction? Or perhaps Sparta will just be a minor settlement with military bonuses? I wonder what they're going to do with the Seleucid Empire, too....
|
XD, I don't see why they wouldn't have Sparta I just hope they do something with phalanx so that it isn't "omgwtfoverpowered I just charged 1000000 cavalry into a small phalanx and got obliterated."

Phalanx OP.
+ Show Spoiler +
I only recently learned of the phalanx trick in Rome I. (I was stupid and always had them "move" into the enemy) Keep them out of formation, charge forward, then hit "f" right before they hit. Totally unrealistic, but an incredibly powerful tactic in-game. I have no doubt that trick won't be in Rome II, lololol.

Why is carthage a democracy?
Anyway I hope there will be more than 8 playable factions

Wouldn't be surprised if they only reveal the 8 major factions, and then enable you to unlock more smaller factions (here's hoping to 20 or more!) by either conquering them or winning a campaign - as was the system in the first Rome game.
Anyway, I'm super excited for this game! I know Shogun 2 doesn't have the best reputation among the Total War games, but after having played it at least 250 hours, I feel it's the best game in the series. Maybe I just like samurai a lot, but the game just operates so smoothly (especially after numerous patches) and is so pretty. Overall I feel every game in the series (except Empire, the bugs at release just put me off completly) has been an improved, and I have every expectation that Rome II will improve it even further.

Heard they were all going to be available right from the start; I'll have to double check that.
As for smaller factions, Rome at least has 3 to choose from:
Furthermore, the player will choose to conduct the affairs of Rome as the head of one of three great Roman houses: The Julia, The Cornelia, and the Junia, each of which brings further economic, military and cultural benefits.
I'm waiting till the summer to invest in a massive desktop to play Rome II and Shogun II (which is sitting on Steam right now waiting for me to install it). This poor laptop here couldn't hope to run Shogun II on desirable settings.... T_T

I played Rome and Medieval 2 so much, and then Napoleon only for it to crash and lose my save data =/ I've got Shogun 2 and played it for a bit, but I just couldn't get into it, not really interested in that time period I guess.
I think they may have 8 playable factions originally and then have more factions available on DLC, I don't see them having Briton in vanilla.

I liked the Europa Barbarum mod for Rome. Are those guys going to be around to do a second version of it or is the IP too tightly locked up to make it modable?

I believe EB2 is going to be made as a Medieval 2: Total War mod. Though there's no definite release date.
As it happens I'm a fan of EB, too - it's definitely more historically realistic than the original, as well as having loads more depth (in terms of content and strategy).

Gonna reinstall Rome I to my computer to practice. Anyone else play a Total War game much in terms of multiplayer? I never got into that side of things, but I'd like to for Rome II.

I come to this thread whenever i log onto TL...praying that the release date will change to "TOMORROW YAY!"... still hasnt =(

I don't. Total War games are buggy enough as is. Last thing I'd want is for CA to rush a release. They're terrible at quality assurance.

Rome 2? Finally, that city was released over 2500 years ago. It's about time it got a sequel.

A quick release of this game wouldn't sound good to me considering the scale of it.
