Hehe... using this way, 43 turn on 40 durability syn >.<

The market makes no sense...
Hopefully my vendor-bought goods that I turn around and sell on the market board will pay off!

I picked this up a few days ago and hit level 20 last night. Enjoying it a lot more than I was expecting to, but I'm worried about it being a little too easy.
|
Don't worry about the tutorial being too easy, you don't complete blizzard's "build 4 farms and a grunt" missions and worry about warcraft being too easy do you?

the dunegeons will pick up the pace in the 20-30 range allready and lvl 50 dungeosn are nothing like lvl 30 dungeons.
|
yeah I guess that makes sense. Just a little disheartening being able to solo fates with 0% chance of dying. I've done the 20dungeons already (need 25 to start next set) and aside from the turtle thing, it was simply gather up mobs and aoe them in 10seconds.
|
The first "challenging" one is Story mode Titan (34 I think?), though Hard mode Titan is where difficulty really shoots up. Everything up to that point everyone should be able to do given enough tries, but is no longer the case since (at least currently, SE generally will nerf existing content after a while to let everyone catch on).

FFXIV tries to train ALL players whether you're a seasoned MMORPG vet or a complete newbie. It introduces all types of things via the Story Line main quest and other things such as; Dungeons, Guild Hests and Duties. Later on things get difficult but not too overly difficult. But like someones mentioned before, once you hit Hard Mode Titan is when shit starts to get real.
|
Not sure if this is common knowledge or even true, but if you click the letters at the top of the duty finder I'm pretty sure it throws you into an even bigger pool of players (Japanese, English, German and French clients), so it can help to reduce queue times for DPS.
While grouped with a French player he mentioned playing through a VPN greatly reduced his lag, so maybe that'll be useful to some of you.

It seems that SE doesn't support Paypal for its digital download purchase. Was wondering if I can buy game time with PayPal through their crystal system or something? I can just pick the actual game up from a store if that's the case since I have no credit card

I'm not sure if you could say it's too easy, my group got wiped at Sastasha and almost got wiped again but I carried alone with Archer >_> These things are tough for new people, the first dungeons cannot be difficult at all. Many people don't even know how to use all their skills, they are supposed to get you used to dungeon mechanics if you have never played MMORPGs before.

There is a subscription fee so without a credit card will be tricky. You can buy game card for it but not sure about availability, and it is a bit more expensive iirc..

At least in Finland, game cards can be bought from just about any video game store at least currently. Online at the very least...
I bought this with visa electron

The end game is actually extremely challenging. Even the ifrit boss fight was very hard for me. It took me 3 days worth of time before I finally got a group that could beat it. There was always someone that couldn't avoid the aoe, and it's basically an insta wipe if someone gets hit by that. It's refreshing to play an MMO that doesn't skimp on the challenge.

Coming from WoW:Cata/WoW:MoP, it's actually refreshing to play a MMO where the damage dealer has to actually think about what he does.
I have to control and spread my damage so that I don't take the aggro off the tank, for instance. That's cool. CC'ing a strong mob is also important.
But the best thing yet was when our tank died to a suicide-bomb-thing on a dungeon, and I kited the boss for the win :D
Boss mechanics are interesting from the very first dungeon(err Duty), and the simple fact that I can play with a controller and it isn't that much of a hindrance makes it for me.
I'm level 20, and I'm having tons of fun. Might need to stop playing this in order to study >_>"

makes sense I guess. Sadly I'm a turbo nerd so that doesn't really apply to me.

Hey Zeph, what server are you on? I'm playing on Zalvena(NA) or something, lv 25 guardian. We should group up sometime.
I got my conjurer to 15 also, hoping to hit 30 today and unlock Paladin jobs.

Some DPS classes are pretty ridiculous, the optimal Dragoon rotation is like a repetition of 40 moves with plenty of situational ones. I really like how so many of the dungeons have very interesting mechanics(Coppermine was really cool). It's completely different from how most of the other MMORPGs I've played are, in which it's impossible to steal aggro off the tank and you mainly just spam your stuff at the boss...
I also don't think it can be overstated how cool the story / cutscenes / music are, either. The music is a pleasure to listen to and rather varied, totally different from most MMORPGs where the music becomes really annoying really quickly. This is definitely the best MMORPG I've ever played hands down. Hopefully they implement some really interesting PVP stuff later on.

I think its fairly easy to keep aggro if you hit the mob first. AoE threat is a little difficult when everyone is targetting different mobs. I haven't yet played any DPS classes, but I feel like black mages are insane at the moment, judging from groups.
I'm not really a big fan of the story at all. The "ohhh my head hurts, time to pass out and float around in the sky/crystals" stuff gets kinda silly. The cutscenes are OK and the music is bland in comparison to traditional final fantasy music IMO.
Not to say its not enjoyable as a whole, but I think one of the reasons I enjoy it is because its simply "NOT WOW".
