Ok I got a couple of questions, hope someone can help me with that
I'm a lvl 50 WHM now, I have the Madman's Whispering Rod (weapon for the relic weapon quest) and 2 Quicktongue III materia. How do I proceed now? Do I look for an alchemist to doublemeld the materia? Do I need to bring a catalyst? (if so, which one?) What's the average cost for that? (melding process)

Find a level 50 crafter of your type (so for you, yes alch)
Whisper him.
Right click on him > request meld > select materia > select catalyst (type 5, its' like 300 gil per from the vendor)
I tipped mine 5k.

Alright, thanks

should be grade 3 catalyst (match materia grade), though anything higher than 3 would work
I think the guy above confused catalyst (used for meld) with dark matter (used for repair)

Probably did. I haven't done much with materia.

Well darn, stuff about healer queues isn't exaggerated. Queueing on an EU server at 3-6am on a weekday? 0.0000001s queue 5 times in a row

It's all fun until Monday morning when Tomes reset and full group queues take 20 minutes for AK.

Queues are quite problematic at earlier levels as well.. My lancer friend had to wait for over 40 minutes for one of the first tier dungeons, which is quite terrible since those are part of the main story quest line. Don't know if it's because of lack of healers and tanks, or if it's the problem of reserving dungeons... but it seems quite a bit faster for me, 20 minutes wait tops as a tank.

Ak is the only one with the reserving issue. Once you queue for a dungeon you can actually click the "finding duty" or whatever in the quest list and it'll display what you currently have (including members from other things that have queued) so you can see if it's taking a long time to find dps or healer or whatever. In AK it'll just say "reserving instance" for 30 minutes.

long dps queue are not an issue, players do it to themselves voluntarily.
And what would you have SE do? Hire 10000 people that play tanks and healers all day so that people can play their dps classes?
|
It's more of an issue of not as many people doing story now, as you only do it once generally. Easier to find some people and form a group and do it rather than rely on DF.

Having groups be 1-1-3 as normal instead of 1-1-2 would help, you know
Personally I think that having the dungeons be part of the main story is really really bad. After some months or years, it's very likely that there won't be many people still playing the story and it will be almost impossible to progress through it especially as a DPS.
Also players should be able to play the role they want...
Oh personal opinion, I've had a lot more fun playing as healer than DPS. Optimizing your damage and still healing and using cleric stance always at the right moments is a lot more interesting than spamming 3 macros at least at the start(and I've only tried archer but the others don't seem that much more interesting)

Or you can just get a few people to party with you and do content, which is what other MMO does anyway. It's very rare for story to be able to completed totally solo in a MMO.
BRD is a ton of juggling end game. I enjoy both tank / DPS but not healer even though I probably enjoyed healer most 1.0 (and did least). I think DPS in general require most situation awareness at harder content, as they are extremely fragile while always in harm's way.

It depends, in some of the ones I've played the story "arc" stops at a dungeon but after you get 1-2 levels, you can start the new story arc without finishing the last one so even if you cannot find that group for the dungeon, you will still be able to continue on... Currently it's no problem but I wonder how it will be later on. Of course if it becomes a problem they can patch it...
|
I think it's pretty good balance that all content before level cap require only 4 person. If you can't even find 3 other people, friend or random people, to do some content with, you won't get much out of MMO anyway.

Just a quick question: I'm gonna pick up a retail version of this game, does SE require some kind of payment setup before letting me play? I'm thinking of just playing the free month that comes with the purchase, and then depending on how I feel about it, add the subscription later. Is this possible without initially setting up payment methods?
|
You can play it without setup payment, it just stops working when free period end until you do so.
|
Alright thanks, will be picking this up then. Hopefully the lack of people doing low level story dungeons won't be too much of a hindrance. Also in terms of crafting and whatnot, I'm not one to spend time on that stuff. I didn't do it in WoW and I never liked doing it in any other MMO. How detrimental would it be if I were to just plow through the game without doing any gathering/crafting?
|
You don't ever need to setup payment, you can just buy prepaid cards. It's also a better idea for safety because credit card into can always be hacked or whatever.
Crafting in this game is a lot different from WoW, it's not comparable at all. And you would miss on quite a bit because you cannot meld materia with it which can mean... 20 less primary stats per item? Of course you can pay for it but it's like the best way to make money, I feel.
Think you should at least try it...
|
It's fine if you don't do any craft / gather. Once you find a good group after reach level cap (or before), there will be plenty people who will be able do it for you.
