The ease at which you can accomplish them In a fate grind group, coupled with how certain fates chain Into the other (svara chain, DD chain In northern thanalan) means fast xp, and quickest way to level. Svara fate chain is insane xp. It would be silly not to do that whenever it pops up. You can see literally huge chunks of your xp bar move after you finish those. Personally I watch an sc2 stream or a show while running fate groups and levels fly by like nothing. Throw in the odd dungeon or story quest and you will hit max level pretty quick.

You always have something to do no matter how much time you have in your hands. You can potentially use any class in the game on the same character. The gathering and working classes have a lot of depth. It's just an extremely well made game in many aspects.

It does ramp up to more funsies, but the early game is abysmally simple. Edit: While I'm on it, early game quests also suck. "Go to the forest and kill a bunch of lady bugs and squirrels". Fuck you Square!!! It's pretty cool to know that things get a lot better later on. I haven't had the desire to log in today though knowing what I'm in for in the early levels. Not sure I'll get past that hurdle D: For a game that lets you switch classes I really wish they had put more attention into making the lower levels fun, rather than slogging through it each time you want to play something else.

At least on this point I agree, the endgame content (based upon what I see In streams) Is really difficult. Usually It requires everyone being In good gear, with a balanced party (and at least 1 bard usually) and precise teamwork. To my knowledge, only one non-legacy group has cleared the first coil of bahamut, and that was after 2-3 days of nothing but trial and error on the final boss of coil 1. And I think only a handful of people on legacy servers, both I'm NA, EU, and JP have done the same. I'm pretty sure no one has beaten coil yet, and that's cause the crystal tower (where you go to gear up for coil) isn't implemented yet.

Imho PVE cant be a challenge once you got decent gear, a good group and know the encounters. PVP though.. :-)

Wait til you do the hardmode primals and coil. The dps required to do amdapor keep doesnt even hold a candle to titan and the coil bosses. I think a guild member d/c during or before demon wall and i ended up solo dpsing the fight.

Class quests will generally give you a hatchet or a scythe, and your pick from head/chest/legs/feet. You can buy all of this gear from fieldcraft vendors in cities/towns/camps/the market. You want gear that gives + gathering and + perception. Do not worry about + GP as that doesnt matter until you are at max lvl botnay.

I've started a Gladiator (planning to go Paladin) and a Thaumaturge (for Black Mage) that I'm enjoying at around lvl10 but I'm probably not going to have time to level them both at the same time after that. Which one is the most useful / fun to play for end game content? Especially, I'm afraid of the comparison with WoW mage which was pretty much one button mashing in raid.
