Also is it just me, or is there no way to seperate yourself from other players in terms of skill in this game because of the cooldown? Am I missing something, or is dps going to be completely decided by gear? Edit: Oh theres a combo system. Does anyone know how indepth it goes?

First impressions: 1. Opening c/s felt awkward and unfinished 2. Combat is uninteresting and dumb'd down. Automatically regen'ing health/mana without investing anything into it... .am I playing a game intended for ages 5 and under? 3. Scenery is absolutely beautiful. Game is definitely a work of art aesthetically 4. I do feel a bit of individuality and ownership with my character. Far to many games fail to achieve this, but FFXIV seems to have done a good job with it (so far).

Do you honestly think you should be burning pots every 30 seconds at level 7 or stopping to rest in between mobs? That just slows the game down unnecessarily.

I'm saying that after playing playing numerous RPGs, most recently PoE, FFXIV's early game is by far the worst experience I've had in a while (speaking purely about the combat/leveling system). Also, I liked the /rest dynamic in FFXI. It forced you to make decisions in pursuit of efficiency. This is just mindless skill spam with no aggro'ing mobs in sight. Early leveling is rarely fun or exciting, but FFXI has managed to take it to a whole new level of mindlessness. I'm sticking with it though~ I hear it gets better later on. I'm guessing your problem is similar and not specific to you individually. They've intentionally dumbed down a lot of the game to appeal to inexperienced players. They are aiming to attract players who are new to mmorpgs as per the words of Yoshi P the game director. The few difficult quests they had earlier on got nerfed into the ground with phase 4. It is pretty disappointing tbh cause anyone with any gaming experience is going to breeze through everything leveling up. Wait till endgame hardmodes I guess ;o

I had a level 20+~ Ranger during phase 2 but obviously that was wiped, haven't really touched it much since so I can't say i've experienced anything high-end
