I got so lucky...
I spawned in Cherno after just dying by the northern hospital in Cherno. I usually try to find a knife, a decent backpack, a compass, medical supplies and a rifle before heading north. I managed to find at least 10 watches in cherno and a m1014 with several rounds. I was hit by a Zombie so I was bleeding and didn't notice.... I ended up at about 6k blood. I didn't want to wander north without being able to find my bearings and be able to secure my own food so I headed towards Electro to find a compass and maybe more ammo and a knife. My goal was to search the Firestation north of Electro then head to the grocery store and then the townhall and then to the bistro and finally to the firestation at the powerplant. I was sneaking into the firestation to the north and heard footsteps above me and flies. My heart was racing and I switched to my shotgun and waited behind the stairs.
I never fire the first shot. I try to keep my distance and to observe people and see if I want to make contact with good intentions. So as this person was coming down I could not decide what to do. I had just been shot at a minute or two before between Electro and Cherno and this person was with a corpse. He was not aware of my presence because I silently walked into the buildings and it was night time and I if tried to run he would have heard me and could easily tag me if he wanted. I ended up deciding to let him come to me because I would have the drop on him and with the M1014 in close range I could easily blow him away. As he came down the stairs I'm 90% sure he saw me and he just walked away. Not a single word between the two of us. I gave him a few seconds to leave and I checked out the upstairs and found even more ammo for my M1014 and more food and canteens.
I slowly made my way deeper into town detouring to the church and finding very little of use. So I kept moving into town. I came to the Grocery Store and found nothing again except for shit tons of Makarov ammo. Like 7 mags all stacked on top of each other two or three times in the one store. ... (Is this a glitch? This server seemed to have insane amounts of Makarov ammo and zero food spawns.) So I crossed the street to the Town Hall. It had a M9SD tons of M249 and AK ammo with precious precious beans. And that was only the first level. As I climbed I heard the flies again. Again that feeling that only DayZ ever gives me creeps up in the back of my throat. As I climb the stairs sound of the rain and the flies is deafening. It seems like any noise another player would make would be impossible to hear. As I came up the stairs I quickly check the entire roof for bad guys. I found nothing just a corpse on the roof. I check it and he has An M16 CCO with tons of ammo, a Coyote Backpack, A knife, A compass, and tons of food and M9 ammo. I quickly grabbed my loot and ran north fearing the person who had killed survivor would now be hunting me. I ran to the firestation at the powerplant and found nothing I needed. This is when I noticed a group of 5 people moving towards me chucking flares as they went highlighting themselves as they went. I quickly tried to run to the forest but they had seem me and started shooting. I dove behind a fence and tried to escape. I ran around a corner of the fence and to the hill a ways and I hoped I had lost them but they incredibly kept chucking flares trying to find me and lit themselves up as they walked closer. I took aim and managed to kill one of them KO a second then and hit a third. They scrambled back to get behind cover and I ran my ass off up the hill. The dark made it impossible to chase me and I ran as fast as I could to cover and then kept running eventually I stumbled onto a goat and ate up and packed it in for the night.
I love this game so much.

This was an awesome read! Thanks man!
I so want to play this game right now, but all this talk of hacking has really got me down. Is this happening in a bunch of servers or just 1 or 2?

I just heard that everyone in NY25 got jacked?

I really want to enjoy this game but it doesn't seem that fun by my self. Yes yes I should join the teamspeak... but meh not sure what to do other than spawn, heads toward town, and hopefully not die.

Finally broke down, couldn't wait any longer for the Steam sale so I bought a copy each for me and two friends last night. I've been watching streams on and off for a month or two, so I have a very, very basic knowledge of the game, but my two friends only know it's a 'zombie survival sandbox.' Only one friend was awake, so as soon as we had it downloaded we hopped right into a mostly empty server, and thus the noobtacular journey began.
+ Show Spoiler + I spawned just east of Cherno, TJ just west of Elecktro... close, but between the two places I knew I didn't want to be. About this time I realize I've made a terrible error... this is a first person only server XD, but we're men, so we tough it out. We headed down the coast towards each other, feeling slightly cheesing running along the beach like a bad romance film, but we met up with no issues and headed north strait away. We investigated the little town at the foot of the mountain, found nothing but zombies, but we were starting to feel a little better about the controls and our leet stealth skillz (lol).
We headed up over the mountain and ran into some powerlines which we decided to follow west, keeping to the treeline. As we travel I spot a body under the powerlines. Suspicious, but salivating at the thoughts of phat lootz, TJ crawls out to the body and investigates. Nothing but beans. Slightly saddened but still determined, we continue on and end up at Prigorodky where we finally saw some buildings we could likely loot, which was pretty fantastic seeing as we were still in basically starting gear. I take the lead, because for some reason TJ seems to think I know what I'm doing despite him being by far the better FPS player, and we approach cautiously. Crouching, then eventually crawling into the first of three closeby building. It looks like some sort of stable, and after a quick search we don't find much of interest. TJ decides to check the last room while I head for the barn with the red roof, crawling to avoid zombie aggro.... I failed. One zed sees me, runs up and manages to smack me before I can get off my three makarov shots. Giving up on stealth for the moment I hop up and run into the barn, heading up a staircase to funnel zombies. I take out a couple more zeds, far less than I would have thought would come running, but it appears we're 'safe' for now. TJ comes into the barn and checks the west side of it as I'm already checking the east side. I don't find anything so I move on to the last barn. Right as I find a crossbow, TJ tells me he's found a Winchester, which to our noob eyes is a jackpot! On my way back to the barn to get the winny I pop a zombie with the crossbow to try it out... which one shots it! How awesome! I give TJ the crossbow and a few bolts, I take the winny with about 4 clips, and move back to the treeline to continue on our powerline following adventure.
After scoping out the small dam, at which we found nothing, we continue on west and come to the compound north of Vysota. TJ's itching to try out the crossbow so he takes aim... and whiffs 4 bolts. He quickly drops it and takes the winny we found in the little gatehouse of the compound. Meanwhile I go and scope out the stables and once again, jackpot! A fancy new czech backpack nicely delivered to me by some dead guy! As I'm looting I somehow manage to aggro a zombie, which the winny dispatches, which aggros like 8 more zombies... that the winny also dispatches. I'm feeling like a sexy shoeless god of war. We check the final barn where I find a hatchet, but not much else of use. So now, both loaded with winny's and with plenty of food and water, we head out west once more, deciding to follow the southern powerline when they split.
We arrive at a powerstation where we see some zeds. Feeling godlike we decide to blast our way through rather than just sneak around. It goes fine, I start with the rightmost, TJ with the leftmost, and we take down the 4 zombies in our way. This is when the first reality check kicked in. Suddenly, zombies are spawning on top of us, a couple at a time. We gun them down, but more spawn, and more, and more... I give the command to move out (Fuck... just run!) and we sprint off to get out of the spawn zone. By the time we dispatch them all we're both at around 6k blood and coming up on buildings I've never seen before in my streamwatching. We dispatch a few military zeds after accidentally aggroing one that was hiding in a tree and then move into the compound. From my guestimate, we should be near the airfield... but none of this stuff looks familiar...
We search the small compound (about three buildings and a couple crashed hummers) and find practically nothing (I think we found a smoke grenade and some M203 ammo). We move on, find a road so I can reorient meself, and what do I see down the road but military tents! Now I know where we are, I explain to TJ that this place is usually a bit of a hotspot, but we decide to brave it anyway in hopes of phat lootz... erm, survival gear. We approach without issue and climb over the sandbags. TJ goes to check the tents while I check the corner towers. I find nothing, nothing, nothing, and then TJ announces that's found a body... with stuff. I crawl over to check it out with him and it was like christmas in that tent. AK74 with red dot (well.. technically green) and 3 mags, matches, compass, map, knife, 3 bloodbags (two of which we used immediately), and a slew of other goodies. He takes the AK, I take his extra winny mags and then quickly head over to scope out the last tower. I'm quite nervous as it seems like we've been here forever, but we make it out ok and decide that well, we're here already... might as well check out the airfield before we head north.
We creep along the treeline until TJ spots a rusted out truck near the airstrip. He sprints over to it to get a better view of things and I continue to creep along the treeline. Suddenly he says he spotted a nametag north of the airfield... my heart starts pounding immediately. We've yet to see anyone alive, and NOTHING has been said in chat. No disconnects, no deaths, no talking... just nothing. He loses sight of the tag but sees a zombie headed towards where he lost it, so he decides to wait to see if it aggroed before moving from the truck.
The first bullet whistled in and TJ immediately turned and bolted for the treeline... the second bullet took him in the back and dropped him unconscious and bleeding. I sit, frozen like a hare in the treeline trying to get TJ to tell me how much blood he has left, how long the timer has before he can make it to the trees, etc. When I finally get the info I know one thing... he's not going to make it. There hasn't been a shot since the first two, so there's really only 3 options. Either a) he ran out of sniper bullets... unlikely b) he lost sight of TJ when he fell behind the truck... somewhat likely give the angle we think he was shooting from, or c) Admiral Ackbar... most likely. Still, I'm not leaving him to die. I begin to crawl towards the truck, my heart in my throat knowing I'm his only chance at living...
I never even heard the bullet, but it took me from 12k to -9k instantly. I died before TJ bled out.
We respawned on the same server, now re-realizing that we are noobtastic at this game but addicted beyond belief. I spawn at Kemenka, he at Cap Golova. Like a boss he makes the run through Cherno and we meet near Balota. We try to raid the tents again and nearly die to zombies. I end up out of ammo, he ends up with 2 bullets. Naturally, there's nothing in the tents. So, no ammo, low supplies, middling blood, we decide to check out old bodies in case for some crazy reason they weren't looted. I crawl out to check the gear on one body... it's all there. I quickly steal everything, crawl back tot he trees and TJ goes and takes the stuff from my old body. Now we're rearmed!
We immediately circle Balota and then head northwest, checking a few (empty) deerstands and making our way towards Zelenogorsk for the super market. It isn't until we're crawling down the dirt road towards the supermarket that anything really happens... and that happening is bad. We're crawling along, surrounded by zombies, and I mention to TJ that the AK I now have is quite loud, so if we do aggro some zombies it would probably be better for him to take them out with his winny. About 10 seconds after I say this... I hear a shot behind me. A zed had been heading for us and he got nervous and popped him. I look around and see about 6 more zeds coming, he takes out a few but has to reload.. with even more coming... I open up with the AK. At the end we've got about 40 dead zeds and I manage to bandage myself with about 600 blood left. I can't see a damn thing... We hurry over and loot the SM, getting another czech pack and not much else... completely not worth it.
We hit the treeline and head north, TJ kills a couple rabbits which, couple with some cans got me up to where I wasn't passing out constantly, but I still could barely see and had the shakes like no one's business. We finally get to Pustoshka, hitting up the fields along the way in hopes of a cow (no cow) and TJ Solid Snakes his way into and out of the supermarket without any issue. He finds an Alice pack, a winny to replace the AK that I no longer have ammo for, and a few more scraps of food and drink. At a loss, we move on to more deer stands so we at least have an objective while we're searching for cows.
TJ checks a few deer stands, finding a whole lotta nothing. This whole time he's forced to protect me from zombies as I quite literally can't make them out until they're hitting me. So, as I'm sitting by the ladder of a deep stand I here TJ yell excitedly "COW!" A word that I'm sure neither he nor I have ever been as excited to hear. He kills it (apparently 2 makarov clips and a winny shot) we cook it and both get back up to around 8.5k life. Thus ended our first night of adventures, with the server quickly turning to the utter blackness of night we logged.

Thank god! I found a tractor sitting at the side of the road... I was nearly dead of dehydration and the entire town of Dolina had zero drinks... Found my baby on the way out of town :D

If you run straight east for like 5 minutes you will end up in Pavlovo, in fact, I am pretty sure the debug forest is on the map.

Aren't there a few Korean servers? I tend to forget because they're the ones with highest latency (from EU) and on the very bottom of the list.

Rocket posted some patchnotes for the next patch. Looks great! Hopefully he'll be able to fix the laggs and new zombie attack and running O_O <3
Pending Update 1.7.1 Details Rough outline of what to expect in the pending update.
I will update this as more stuff is put in. Changelog will then follow it.
Performance and Optimization
- Reduction/elimination of the new server lag. This is caused by the ArmA2 server expecting immediate response from the central server. Vehicles are the main cause of this, as whenever they are damaged everything stops while the server ensures this is recorded in the database. - Bugs fixed that were possibly causing very significant netcode overhead (will need mass-scale testing to verify this).
Infected Behavior
- Infected can no longer see/attack through walls. - Entirely new mocap'd attack and running animations
Content
- Additional Idle Infected sounds - Revised Attack sounds - Many new action sounds, including IV, bandaging etc...
Notes
- This update will REQUIRE the beta patch, so it is worth installing this now and getting used to it. - Read up at the BI Forums about the beta patch install. It's pretty easy.

Infected can no longer see/attack through walls. HAIL MARY

Something that happened a couple days ago really kind of summed this game up for me.
I was looting a barn when I turned around and saw someone prone outside, it quickly backed out of my vision, around the door. I asked a few times if the person outside the barn was friendly, and received no response, so my gun was trained on the door, waiting for him to get in. If you know barns, you know there's frequently 10 or so zombies around them, especially city barns, so it can be a bad call to even start shooting. I called out a few more times, getting only silence, so I waited quietly in the corner, ready to pop if he started firing. Moments later, quite a while. He replied: "I was looting the barn for food and water when I saw you and fell off the stairs and broke my leg. Now I'm scared to come back in"
I replied to him, knowing the area was swarming with Z, while he's prone outside, likely just yards from one: "Come in, I got some cans" Fully intending to be a good guy and share my take from the market earlier.
After about a minute pause, broken leg, probably starving and dying, amid a field of Z: "I think it's best if I just continue on"
So I wished him luck, and we parted.

I haven't figured out how yet.
Also about this 1.7.1. needing a beta patch, what is rocket talking about?
