Yesterday's Dayz lives:
1 - Logged back into Berez hospital roof with Lee Enfield, plenty of ammo, 2 blood bags and a 16 slot bag. Within 1 minute, accidentally fall off and die instantly.
2 - Respawn, hit up Cherno and grab an Ak-74 with a few mags. Meet up with some friends at Zeleno, find a bag and some good loot. We hit up Myshkino because we heard that vehicles can spawn there, no such luck. We find a tent with some great gear inside, nick what we can. It's VERY dark and rainy on our server, so we decide to make a run to the NW airfield. Hit both barracks and find an M16, but little else. We take it because all 4 of us have AKs or AKMs and we have more ammo that way.
Another friend finds a UAZ and picks us up near Novy Sobor, Jeep is full of grenades and AK ammo, low on gas. We decide to check out the Vybor for fuel. We get out and maybe 40 zombies spawn (or were following the car). I run in the gas station, but the building is too small to find a place where the zombies can't hit through the walls. I get hit on 2-3 sides and go down quick. My leg is broken and I'm losing blood fast. Everything fades to black.

The LA servers are really good in general. Played on 1,2 and 5.

Aw. Pretty mad about the alt+f4 thing right now.
Me and two friends were looting stuff in Berezhino, I was in one of the multi-floor residential building, my friends were in another right next to it. Suddently, I hear someone eat and drink, I ask my friends if it was them, and they say it wasnt. So I'm like ok, we got company, I switch weapons to my m4a3 and start searching for him (after some more sounds on his part, he was somewhere above me). After a little bit, he somehow manages to come behind me in the staircase and kill me. Well, that sucked but I know my friends will avenge me.By then they were in position around the building, covering the exit and the roof and they were pretty sure they made no sound at all, so he couldn't have known they were there.
After a while, he comes out of the building and my friends light him up with ak and m16. He drops within miliseconds, bleeding and everything and ... disappears. I hear my friends raging on skype. The guy probably died when he joined the next server because of massive bleeding + inconscious.
Oh well, there goes my m4a3 cco and my coyote backpack (with another m4a1 in it) among plenty of other stuff.
DayZ life.

They are fixing the disconnect when you're almost dead now, your body will stay for 5 seconds after you disc. Means you can cap a guy in the head once he's down and kill him even if he alt-f4's straight away.

However, by the time everyone else had been killed I had ran to the tents from kamenka; however, a server restart prevented me from reaching the tents and saving what I could. I then logged to a different server and logged off in the trees near where the jeep was parked, hoping to use it to save what gear I could. When I logged back on to NY25, there were three guys in the camp, two running around looting and one guy in the jeep running over all the tents. I quickly logged out, and logged back in about five minutes later to see what I could save. That effort would be for naught, as NwO had destroyed everything they couldn't take. After I logged in, a NwO member told me that there was nothing left of the camp, and he took credit for the spectacular sniping which killed everyone in the camp. He turned out to be right, as there were no tents left standing.
Using the information off the top of my head, our losses look something like this:
4? x M4A1 SDs: I lost one, two were lost sitting in tents, and I assume fontong lost his either to the sniper or when the tents were looted.
2 x M14 AIMs
1 x DMR
2 x AK 74s
1 x AK 74 Kobra
1 x M16
1 x M16 with M203 Grenade Launcher
2 x M24s
1 x CZ550
1 x MP5 SD
20 x Blood bags

At this point, how NwO found our city is up for some speculation. It may be possible that the man we saw followed us back to the tents; however, this is somewhat unlikely because I was watching our backs the whole way back, and I didn't see anyone following. It is possible that the sniper who started their assault stumbled onto the camp site on accident. I don't particularly think this is likely, as our site was in the middle of nowhere, and is rarely traveled. The method that seems most likely to me is that they used the radar on a chopper to find the jeep which was parked at our camp site. Since someone, unknown to them at the time, stole their jeep, it is likely that they would use a chopper to try to find it.
Regardless, we are now left without many of the assets we once had. We now must start from scratch, as many of us were also killed in the attack. We have been laid low by the NwO; however, we will rise from the ashes and start anew. We will rebuild what we have lost, many times over. We will repay NwO for their vicious attack on our tents, just as they destroyed our home, we shall destroy theirs.

Ebay is quite good from what I've heard. You can play this mod with Arma II and OA, or Arma II Combined Ops, or Arma II X.
All are basically the same, just try to find the cheapest.

Ive never even heard of Arma II before seeing threads pop up about Day Z. Which do you recommend?

I would recommend either combined ops, which is just Arma 2 and OA together, or purchase them both seperately if it is cheaper. Certainly for ease, I just bought Combined Ops from steam for £25.

noobie tips for successful solo play?
i usually play on low-pop servers so i mostly mean how to accrue great gear after a fresh respawn the fastest/easiest.
barns? airstrips? venture into a big city? what's the best way to get rolling?

Honestly when I start I always go straight to Cherno or Electro. I've never had real issues with bandits only one or two deaths in Cherno and none in Electro to players. Since you have basically nothing when you start you have little to lose by going into the city and possibly finding military grade weapons and the survival kit. By survival kit I mean multiple canteens for water, compass, a hunting knife, matches, a hatchet, and some extra cans of food and pop in emergencies. At the very least IMO you need a compass before you head north the woods are very easy to get lost in even with a compass. Military Bases in the NE and NW have great loot but it takes ages to get there and it is a PvP hot spot. Just remember to never ever leave crouch in the city and to take your time. It's amazing how far a zombie will aggro on you if you stand  . If you do aggro a zombie get inside of a building and drop it with one headshot. Shooting multiple times will aggro more zombies and allows people to better figure out where u are. In Electro stick to the north of the city go to the townhall, fire station and the bistro and then go north to the powerstations fire station. In Cherno hit up the firehall, all of the bistros through town they all have decent stuff and the roof of the townhall.
I would look for a Winchester because it's a strong all around weapon with plentiful ammo a few extra makarov mags and the survival kit then do what you want.
What time do you tl guys play? I've jumped onto ts a few times and it was just one or two people playing on different severs from each other :o. I'm willing to jump into the war with NwO. Night time raids sounds like a ton of fun.
