This is a really good signal for the Starry Sobor tents especially, since there is no good angle for sniping that does not spawn zombies (the hills are relatively close to the camp). When I'm looking from 500m out and see no zombies, I just loot to my heart's content.

Hi all, thought I would share my tale of mixed fortunes
Life 1: Travel up to north airfields and get AKS-74 Kobra, do a bit of looting and travel back down to stary to prey on survivors (I'm a bad man). Trap one in the big shed gun him down with not much fight. A few more get away. Later I see these other guys crouching in the bushes trying to get the guy down in the military tents. I carefully flanked them got within 10m and opened fire on 2 of them. I though I put plenty of ammo into both of them although neither went down- they returned fire and gunned me down quickly. I think I wasn't using the sights properly- or lag.
Life 2: Spawn near cherno and run to the city centre to get a Lee Enfield to snipe people off. Gun shots all around me no survivors sighted though. Make my way up the clock tower to get a better vantage. The gunfire continues for the next hour but still no one really sighted. Finially I get sights of two survivors track them over the next 5-10 minutes and finally get what I consider to be a good shot. I think to myself as I'm scoping in how come the balcony isnt in the way of my vision (had just switched from 3rd person). Looks around the game had teleported me off the edge without me even moving and I fall to my death
Life 3: Spawn on the NE coast and run to a near by town. Probably about 4-5 dead survivors around this one building I loot their bodies but all they have is Makarovesque gear- still I was pleased to stock up on food. I make my way up to the 3rd floor to see if I can see anyone coming. After 5 minutes of lookign around I hear footsteps behind me to my suprise the killer has logged back in behind me with me in his sights. A sniper in suit- bandit. I quickly empty my makarov into him and cop a few rounds in return. 8k blood and bleeding I bandage up- the bandit is down- I finish him off. Check the loot- obviously a hacker!
Top silinced sniper rifle with 10 rounds Silicend pistol with 6 rounds 5 x NVG 5 x GPS Best backpack in the game etc. All the trimmings !!
So basically I looted him good ditching my makarov (lol). Log off. Log back on at night - NVG- profit. 7 Survivors fall within 30 minutes without knowing what hit them.
Muhahahaha

Today I had a sick run before I got dc'd and called it quits:
Was in Electro, nighttime, found myself a LeeEnfield with 3 clips. I don't know what building I was in, but it was the one that is 3 stories tall and has a lot of rooms in it with loot. I heard some dude creeping below me, and I set up ready to blow him away when he went up the stairs. I think he heard me too, because I could hear him move a few steps and then go prone, move a few, etc. I finally heard him get up again (maybe thinking I was gone, I never moved) and heard him leave the building. Watched him go across the street into a store which had a grip of loot on the ground, and was taking aim. He saw me getting ready, and went prone inside behind some of the aisle things, and I saw him peak inbetween two and took my shot, wasn't sure if I got him, but then I got a message "X has died". I waited a good 20-30 seconds to see if I aggro'd any zeds, and I didn't. Went downstairs to make my way across the street, pulled out my pistol incase I got zed aggro and didn't want to aggro the whole town with my LE. As I came into the shop, there was another guy looting my kill! He opened fire and I took cover behind the counter, switched to my LE, and shot him in the head.
I found a camping tent, Czech Pack, and a GRIP of ammo like 9 clips, hunting knife, binoculars, and a grip of other nice stuff (for a noob like me). This game has such an adrenaline rush! How the hell did you not aggro zombies with a Lee Enfield? That thing is like a siren. +1 for playing at Night time in a big city without NVGs, that stuff's scary Yeah I don't know, I was on the 2nd story of this building and on the outside railing, maybe it made a difference, beacuse one time I shot a guy through a window with my LE, and seriously I aggro'd over 20 zeds.

Does the in-game map track your position (think Fallout 3), or is it just a "realistic" map? When I get this game, I'm thinking about printing out the map and tracking my movements irl.

Realistic map. You can get a GPS though which'll let you know in which grid you are on the map.

So I started last night and went in blind. I log in and immediately notice a massive fire off to my side about 200 meters away. Thinking thats probably not a good place to be I head in the other direction.
Once I feel a bit more safe I spend a good few minutes playing with the controls and figuring what does what. Once I feel comfortable I start heading towards some buildings Ive been keeping an eye on, just a house or 2 and a large barn building. I spend the next 20 minutes creeping around just to realise that theres nothing actually there except empty cans.
Plucking up some more courage I start following the train line thinking this will bring me to something more interesting. I find a slightly larger town with a few more buildings and still no zombies. I manage to snag a winchester rifle and a couple of flares and a pepsi can.
Leaving the town again I see a road sign with a name I cant read saying a town is 4 away. I follow the road from the trees and find myself at a what I think is just a moderate city. Knowing full well that cities are probably bad, (Not that I had anything lose) I start making my way in. Im creeping in slowly about to cross the road towards an apartment building when I hear it. I turn around and see a hopping zombie going near me. I stop dead and try to work out if its coming at me or just going past. While watching this I actually start to focus more on my surroundings. I spot another walker about 100 meters away and a few more down the road, then another again right near me on the other side. I start moving towards the open door as it looks like the only safe place I can see. I enter the building and thankfully find no more inside. I scrounge around but dont find anything of use.
Leaving the building out the other side I accidently run attracting one zombie that was on the other side of the fence. I shoot him down but not without stumbling with the controls and losing 2k blood before. I then hear more coming at me. At the end of Im standing on top of 7 zombies and bleeding at 7.8k blood. I stop for a bit and bandage and then take a look around checking for any more. I start moving for what looks like an abandoned parking station at the edge of town. I see through the building I can see some docks or some road going out to the sea area. I get to the top of the building safely without finding anything useful. Realise im totally out of winchester ammo and down to about 4 pistol clips.
At this point I had to log out anyway. I get on the net to see If I can work out where I was. I find the only area with a dock and a parking garage right where I was. Turns out Im in probably the worst place I could be for a new player. I was in Cherno.
More later if people are interested.

I had been alive for about a day and decided it was time to go back to Baluta, I was well geared and shot two survivors in the airport control tower. I then went for the medical tents east of Baluta when I heard a car. The car stopped right in front of me, a guy was picking his buddy up. Picking someone up in Baluta is crazy and picking someone up in one of the most traveled areas in the game using a car is downright retarded. This guy would lose it one way or another, might as well be me.
I crouched, took a few steps and shot the passenger first and then the driver with my M16CCO. Made sure the passenger was dead and entered the car just to be shot in the face by a makarov by the driver who recovered from the bleeding.
Guess he'll hold on to that car, for now...
DayZ life.

Cherno and Elektro are probably the best places for a noob to be, you die a lot but you learn a lot in a very short timeframe.
