Even in its alpha stage, to me, DayZ is definitely game of the Year in 2012 and I cannot describe how hype I am for this standalone. I agree with Medrea 100% here. Those AAA titles didn't deliver at all. I've been bored all year long, except the times I was playing DayZ.
Now it looks like we're going to have to wait a few months for the release of the standalone... These private servers you were previously talking about sound quite interesting, I think I'm gonna have to reinstall Arma 2.
I have a concern about the standalone though: The dev talks about "redeveloping the engine", what do you think this will mean in terms of performance? Do you think the standalone will require a more powerful computer than the Arma2/Alpha version did?
It will probably be better optimized so if all you wanted was to get back to what Day Z looks like, you can pretty easily. But considering the open world nature youll also probably be able to break flagship systems on it as well.
The indoor sneak preview looks real nice. I think we can all agree that Day Z's indoor areas are ass to look at.

I agree. The 2-3 months I played Dayz with TL were so awesome. Never got bored once during that.

well rocket said it would be any day that he releases closed testing, and he authorized streaming of the closed test. good enough for me.
rocket said the game will be heavily optimized performance-wise, but that a lot of the fps improvements will be absorbed by the increased graphical quality.

I agree with you. DayZ has given me some really intense moments and I have played the shit out of it with something like 200+ hours played even with a huge break.
AAA titles have been such massive let downs for me this year.... + Show Spoiler +
Guild Wars was like my childhood defining game. I was looking forward to playing with my top 50 guild again in GvG but of course they replaced it with some brain dead zerg fest. GW was build on the idea that the max level items were easy to obtain so PvP was all skill and not based on time spend grinding but then they turned it into a shitty WoW clone and took the level cap from 20 to 80 and took away the whole super incredibly deep skill system and replaced it with a fucking downs syndrome system where you just mindlessly spam shit.... Same with Hitman. I loved that game and then they just totally ruined it... bleh
Completely agreed tho, DayZ in alpha is still probably one of my Number 1 Gaming times ever in life. Connected with so many people from TL, this game was the first time I ever communicated with anyone from TL aside from the forums, and it was some of the best time i have ever spent gaming in my life.
Really enjoyed it and made a lot of friends who i look forward to smashing bandits n zombies with in the future. Cant Wait!
(this thread is literally the only reason i even come on to TL recently since ive been so busy working 40+hours and finishin up my degree this quarter)
Same as Maestro, DayZ was the only reason I ever spoke to any TLer outside of these forums lol. I had such an amazing experience. I've been checking this thread nonstop for any news of the Standalone.

The drama was what made it so fun! But yeah if interest is high we can get things rolling again with a new server.
You guys, who run the 1337, should make a paypal account for people to chip in, I know I would and I am not alone. If you get too much money you have my permission to spend it on hookers and blow, you deserve it, go nuts.
