So what do you guy think of that game? Brits OPopie? Too many 222s made by Wehrmacht? / Too many mistakes by GER player overall?

The Wehrmacht mistakes just cost him so much more than the British. If that mine had been avoided instead of detonate on the Tiger then the game plays out completely differently.

Or driving the tiger forward and around the bush instead of more into the center of the airstrike.
Or not losing a 222 by driving into a base, not retreating when he is so low that the next snipershot would kill it.
Or driving an 222 into a BOFOR.
Or not moving his mortar-halftrack enough.
Or having 2 mortars, but still not using them against the sniper, despite him not changing positions that fast.

EDIT: Seems like OKW/Ostheer like to throw games this tourney^^

EDIT2: Or not. But they sure like to donate AT-guns.

One caster being ahead of the obs/other caster is a big issue though...

So far it only spoilered one thing while I was watching, but it takes quite a lot of momentum away from the cast.

Seems both DevM and Aimstrong have a stronger Allies side. DevM dominates with devastating early USF aggression and Aimstrong has some sick UKF.

This tournament makes me so sad that CoH2 will never be big in esports. Awesome games and good cast, despite the lack of experience with such a big event.

you know how Blizzard never releases a game "until its ready". its because you only get one chance to make that critical "first impression". CoH2 released with 2 factions and only 1 match up for $60. Except for very hard core CoH-ers that just won't fly. CoH2 severely limited its audience with a full box price. a small campaign. and 1 match up.

The game has hung on to the small #s of people who bought the game though... credit to Relic for creating long term sustainable game play on a shoe string budget.

Unfortunately Grey Goo and Act of Aggression did a similar thing. So did Planetary Annihilation. I guess you cannot be like Blizzard unless you got money like Blizzard.

The RTS market isn’t as robust as others and there is an identity crisis in RTS games. They keep trying to look like AAA games(with the exception of PA) with full cinematic, high fidelity effects and realistic graphics, but their hardcore base doesn’t seem to care. I really feel the RTS would do better to just scale is back and make something with the graphical quality of Darkest Dungeon, Mark of the Ninja or Don't Starve. Lower budget, great art, tone, game play, rather than pump out a $60 product that tries to chase $60 sales. They are so busy chasing they think RTS games used to be, they aren’t really making anything new. I feel like I’ve been playing the same 5 RTS games for the last 15 years. In a world with amazing AI and city simulators, bases in RTS games almost exactly the same as they were in BW.

And with a game like PA, I really feel that game had something going for it. They needed to iterate more and streamline the travel between planets. The farther away from Supreme commander base building simulator that game got, the more interesting it became.

At least Relics games break the mold a little. I liked what they are putting out and I want to get into CoH again. But I really want more out of my RTS games.

It is not only about company of heroes facing many problems on release, it is also that RTS in general doing pretty bad. SC2 is currently also fighting against becoming irrelevant. Also, the setting makes it pretty tough for sponsors I believe. WW2 was one of the few wars that where justified and against a "true" evil, which makes it so easy for games as long as you play as the allied. When it comes to the other side on the frontline, things change though. I know that in the US accepting the victories of the Wehrmacht isn't that much of a problem, but over here in Europe it mostly is. Even hinting that you acknowledge what got achieved in certain scenarios or how genius some generals where immediately escalates. Even when the german military wanted a study about the generals of the Wehrmacht and their tactical finesse, pretty every one that was only suspected to be associated with war crimes immediately got crossed of the list. It ended up being a study of those generals who definitely didn't commit any war crimes and their tactical achievements instead of what it was supposed to be.
You just can't play Wehrmacht over here, especially now with the internet. Just think about the "message to the sponsors"-shit that pitchforked through SC2 not long ago... I don't think any sponsor would be safe from shitstorms as soon as CoH2 would get to a broader audience. There already was a (proportionally) big shitstorm when various FPS hit the market where you could play as germans in multiplayer, despite the internet not being so filled up with loudmouthed people at that time.

https://www.idlethumbs.net/3ma/

Three Moves Ahead talks about the game with one of the developers and does address some of the pricing issues, that the expansions are stand alone and $60 PC only games are rough. But they said they designed CoH 2 so people didn't have to buy the base game if they only played the British. Apparently that matters for some section of their audience.

I would also like to say that 3ma has been a favorite podcast of mine for years, and people into strategy games should really give it a listen. I do remember them giving CoH2 a pretty rough go when it came out, but they have since came back around, and are pretty happy with the British addition.

I have so say, watching OCF kinda gave me some flashbacks to like, TSL2. I had a ton of fun watching and learning about a game that people are really into despite there not being a ton of money in it.

I bet if Relic/Steam dropped the price on CoH2 while OCF is still fresh in the minds of those 4.7k viewers they'd get some new blood, too.
Can someone please explain/how water falls with no rain?

i would not lump AoA and GG in with CoH2.
CoH2 is a sequel to a successful a game. CoH2 has a long stream of additional content years after initial release. CoH2 continues to sustain a vibrant mulitplayer community years after its launch.

none of these things are true about AoA or GG. GG is already dead in terms of "automatch" multiplayer, and AoA is well on its way there. Automatch multiplayer is still going strong in CoH2 , two plus years after release.

i'm glad Relic/Sega have found an interesting and unqiue way to make a nice steady profit off of the CoH franchise. they certainly have earned it.

Any good AT for the soviets against tigers?

Been playing this a lot recently, and when the germans get tigers out, it's all over. Nothing deals significant damage to them, even my IS-2's shells bounce off them.

Speaking of IS-2's, they are pretty terrible. Slow as hell, even slower reload timing, mediocre damage.. insane cost.. i can go on and on about how bad they are compared to the T34's

ok so theres a lot of misconceptions you have here

first off the is2 is fucking incredible

it has a retarded amount of HP and the top mounted machine gun absolutely annihilates infantry

once they get up to vet 2 they get significantly better, and their absurd health pool ensures they live long enough to get there

just watch basically any 1v1 cast on langreskaya and youll probably see 1 wreck face

second ZIS guns are the 3rd best AT gun in the game, if you go shock rifle frontline you even get a cloak for them, youll probably want at least 2 in the lategame in team games

in 1v1 you can get away with 1 if you have some sort of mobile AT out

SU-76s also shouldnt be underestimated, theyre really cheap for how effective they are and the free barrage is really nice

and plant mines everywhere. soviets basically always float tons of muni so theres no real reason not to plant them everywhere, even if your opponent sweeps 3/4 of them you at least keep him on his toes and make him wary of making deep dives without sweeping first

tigers are just going to bounce a lot in general, don't expect to kill one unless you snare it

on the other hand your is2 shouldnt be dying unless it gets snared

also when going for the IS-2 you shouldnt tech past tier 3, all it does is delay it for no real gain

once the is2 is out you can tech up if you need to, but outside team games that should provide you with everything you need

also make sure to try to avoid shooting while moving with it, it has much better accuracy when not moving

this from the perspective of a top 100 soviet 1v1 player
