So I just tried out the Assault Support Doctrine and I really like it! But I have a few questions though:

+ Show Spoiler [Assault Support Doctrine] +
[image loading]

Artillery Field Officer:
+ Show Spoiler +

1. Is he worth it?
I cant find a site where I can read up on Unit stats so I have no idea if he has good HP&Damage values and I have limited experience with him, 1 time he was not very helpful another time he killed a TON of Units in very short time (without having veterancy!).

2. The Barrage Abillities:

a) Do these come from off map artillery or do I need to have a nearby Mortar Team or something?

b) To me it sounds like it does exactly what a "Select all Mortar Teams & Rocket Cars" + "right click" does, but it costs 80 Munitions, is there an advantage to this abillity that im not seeing? Or is this just for Teamgames where you can make your teammates Artillery shoot as well without having to talk to your teammate?

c) is this abillity worth the cost? How much more accurate/faster does this make Infantry/light vehicles?

Opel Cargo Truck:
+ Show Spoiler +

3. How does the Resource income work on this thing? I looked at this Forum post (very old) and found no good answer. In my last game it gave me +1 Fuel and +2 Munitions every ~19 seconds (its not 20 seconds, its slightly below(or above?)). Some said that it gives you more resources if you deploy in an area that is NOT adjacent to your Headquarters, Ill try to test that theory in my next game, but maybe someone else can shed some light into the Mystery of the Opel.

Found this explanation in the forementioned Thread:
+ Show Spoiler [some dudes explanation on how good the…] +

This answer should be rather obvious, even the worst case scenario for the truck provides +1 fuel and +2 munitions every 20 sec, or +3 fuel and +6 munitions per minute. Compare to a fuel OP giving +3 fuel per minute or munitions OP giving +5 munitions per minute we can assign +1 fuel per minute a manpower value of 66.66 and 40 mp for munitions.

Worst case scenario:
+3 fuel/min = 200 mp
+6 munitions/min = 240 mp
200 + 240 - 200 = 240 mp more value for the same cost as an OP

We can extend this to the other more positive scenarios:
Munitions point but no fuel
+3 fuel/min = 200 mp
+18 munitions/min = 720 mp
200 + 720 - 200 = 720 mp surplus

Fuel point but no munitions
+9 fuel/min = 600 mp
+6 munitions/min = 240 mp
600 + 240 - 200 = 640 mp surplus

Munitions and fuel point
+9 fuel/min = 600 mp
+18 munitions/min = 720 mp
600 + 720 - 200 = 1120 mp surplus

So to clarify: in the best case scenario which is quite most likely (you often control both 1 fuel and 1 munitions point in a equal match up) you get a 1120 mp surplus from using a Opel blitz compared to a OP. Or in other words, you would need 1120/200 = 5,6 plus one so a total of 6.6 OPs (1320 manpower worth) to match the resource production of one Opel blitz with OPs.

So give you an example, let's say you get get out two Opel blitzes with the best case scenario, you would have to construct 13.2 OPs or 2640 manpower worth to get the same resource production. Unfortunately there's not even that many viable OP points on the map. Let's assume you don't own a fuel nor munitions point, you still need to spend 880 manpower on OPs to match 400 manpower on Opel Blitzes.

Verdict: Opel Blitz is THE shit. Never ever construct an OP with that commander.

I dont quite get what he means with "worst case" and what hes calculating there. "OP"'s are the Munitions/Fuel Caches that you can build, right?

All in all: I think i found my new favourite Doctrine, since I like ALL of the abillities, wich one do you guys usually use as Ostheer?

edit: holy shit the Fragmentation bomb is strong.

It's pretty fun. They even made the campaign DoW-like, where you hold territories and move your army around to attack different regions on the map. You're playing with 3 different companies (if you won't get the Fox Company DLC you will only have the standard 3 to pick up) so you're basically using 3 different armies. Winning games nets you requisition which you can use to unlock upgrades for your company (fun new twist on regular doctrine abilities) and if you preserve vetted units you gain company xp which also grants you bonuses (or you can sacrifice it to replenish company strength, it's important since losing battles is harsh, can even make entire company KIA - unable to play with it any more during the campaign). The fun thing is that some of the encounters/battles are random, giving it more replay value. As a bonus you can get full skin sets for USF for completing the campaign (Fox Company skins and Dog Company skins).

Haven't finished it yet as I have no time to spare, but it's really nice.

btw. check out this new awesome playstyle for Ostheer:

Would you say it is closer to DoW2 campaign (retribution or standard) or Dark Crusade?

Dark Crusade, but with more story, drama and your actions having much more impact on everything (and there's no way to load between missions so if you lose, you lose and the game goes on - can't replay the missions so easily).

Usual CoH RNG (sqads getting wiped by detonations, flamer crits etc.). The random encounters thing is "random mission" stuff, like playing regular CP game with additional twists - you get 0 manpower income and only get 700mp every 5 minutes, you can shorten this time interval by killing enemy officers, et cetera, et cetera.

Guys, the entire CoH franchise is on sale for $25.00 on Steam.

I loved the original CoH, played a bit of CoH 2 during a free weekend, hear people complaining about DLC and pay2win stuff, still think the game looks fun... Is it worth it?
Can someone please explain/how water falls with no rain?

If you already own CoH then don't bother with the franchise pack. Buy CoH2 and the western front individually (still 75% off) for $15 instead of $25. The other CoH2 DLCs are just a few scenario missions that weren't very good.

Gotcha. If I don't have the CoH 1 DLCs is it worthwhile to pick them up? Like, is there a reason to go back and play CoH 1 even though CoH 2 has been out for so long?

Edit: Also, just noticed that Ardennes Assault isn't included. Is that important or does Western Front cover enough of the same stuff?

The CoH1 expansions were good, but you probably aren't going to play both games. There is still a sizable fanbase playing the first CoH and many people prefer it over CoH2. Which one you like more is a matter of opinion though.

Ardennes Assault is a single player addon campaign. You can read about it a few posts up when I asked Manitou about it, but I haven't actually gotten around to playing it yet so no opinion. Buying CoH2 and the Western fronts gives you most of the multiplayer content. There are some commanders that are DLC (which is where people get the pay to win idea from), but not required to enjoy playing imo.

Pretty impressive, also nice to see you CoH2 guys advertise on TL.net. I think this game is pretty solid and fun, and I'll tune in to watch.

edit: Just to ask, how's the balance now with Brits joining the fray? Are Wehrmacht and OKW underpowered? US of A got a late game buff?

I almost exclusively play OKW and they don't feel underpowered, at least in 1v1. For US, I still feel like they are absolutely hopeless when it comes to late game as their tanks still seem to not be able to do shit and also getting countered completely by just 3 volks or by the tank from the hospital HQ. If that thing is on vet 5 and in stealth, it still oneshots every vehicle the US has to offer if you are lucky and don't get me started on how poor I feel for them if a OKW-tiger has arrived. If I lose to US it is in the early or mid-game. I still think they need a heavy tank.

About the brits, I don't have the DLC, but so far I have a 100% winrate against them with OKW. I have to try them at one point, because I don't get them. They seem more fitted for team games as everything they have seems to be unbelievable resilient, but not dealing the damage it needs to become a threat (unless when fighting against what they hardcounter). Only BOFORs give me the worst nightmares. I count how many times I missed a BOFOR going up and losing a whole infantry-squad in the blink of an eye. At least vs retreating units they seriously need a big nerf as they still wipe an entire retreating squad far to fast. Their infantry-squads seem to not lose models until the very last moment, their tanks are real "tanks", but can't do much against a proper enemy tank... To me, the whole fraction seems to have awesome units to initiate fights as they can push even through heavy artillery just fine and take a lot of pounding, but overall they need some damage dealers. Never seen a tankbattle vs my tiger that lasted that long while at the same time not really damaging the tiger in the process.

There is only one thing I really cry about with OKW: They removed the sturmtiger from the regular tech and put him exclusively into the elite armor doctrine-commander - which you either have to buy, or you have to get really lucky with war spoils. Admittedly, it was an extremely situational unit that I almost never used, but the few times I did and had success with it, it felt so amazing. Not being able to build it anymore and I heavily dislike that you most likely have to spend money for it.

EDIT: One thing to mention with the brits though. I am not sure, but it seems like there is a lot less radio-com going on while facing them which leads in losing units. Could be me just being more occupied by having to face different units then usual though.

Put it this way - despite the Alpha, Relic still had to release a huge balance patch to nerf the Brits 2 weeks after their release. And as usual, despite team modes being very popular in COH2 compared to SC2, for example, no consideration is given to them when applying balance. I think there have been over 15 more balance patches to COH2 so far than there were for COH1 in total.

It is in a better state now than 2 weeks ago. But it's still horrific when compared to SC2, imo. The 'asymmetic balance' is just plain stupid - as ever, with Allies, you have to win early game or you lose to superior lategame stuff, and vice versa. Medium tank spam, stupid RNG stuff, bad pathing and AI behaviour, and just a constant influx of "moar really powerful stuff! buff the powerful stuff!" (like they just did to the US Rifle Company commander) makes it a very frustrating game to play. It can be fun, and with ~400 hours logged I won't go so far as to say I dislike it - but it is very, very unstable balance wise, and due to the design differences between factions I am not sure there is all that much they can do about it. Pretty much everything about the game is based on snowballs. There is minimal comeback mechanic - if you lose early game, you lose map control, lost map control = no resources, no resources = no way of stopping medium tank spam. You can't turtle. Which as a Protoss, sucks. :p

That said, I do play 2v2 pretty much exclusively, so maybe it is better in 1v1.
