Hydra, difficult until you learn how to fight him, as usual

Wear poison resistance. This game is all about using everything at your disposal to win or survive.

The grass shield works wonders for my stamina though. I guess i can just copy saves right before him until i can work out how to beat him with the greatsword.

hydra is actually rly easy once you work out the right stuff. and this is easy to find out

Interesting method of getting around that, is to use dung pies until you toxic yourself. The toxic from those does way less damage than the blowdarts (7hp/sec from dung pies, 32 hp/sec from blowdart) and then just do a suicide run through and kill every last one of those bastards since they don't respawn, and homeward bone out if you survive.

He's on of the easiest bosses in the game, the only tricky part is not getting hit by his projectiles before you get close to him.

You lose half of your rank if you abandon the covenent. So it will take 15 humanities to get back to +2 if you leave and rejoin.

this game is awesome but some of the bullshit should be fixed. I don't mind the challenge, I love it! I just hate silly shit like getting hit through walls, not being able to use terrain as effectively etc. I was just now going towards smoughs room for the boss fight and apparently the sentinel underneath hit me through the stairs causing my character to fall down, slide like a worm off the stairs and then get pinned against the wall.
shit like that makes me rage more than any actual game difficulty. ~_~

Yeah Dark Souls has got to be one of the ten or so best games I've ever played, but there's a small list of things that I would like to see fixed/removed for the sequel. Crap like the Bed of Chaos really has no place in this game; it's pure trial and error garbage. At least the (hidden) bonfire isn't placed too far away. :|

You mean things that happen in literally every single game ever?

That's the point of the game, it would suck ass if it had save states. It's supposed to be punishing, to make you not want to die, unlike games with save states or lack of punishment when dying (prince of persia 360), where you just die over and over until you complete something.
When you have save states, there's no such thing as "difficult".
Also, beating bed of chaos on one try is not actually all that hard, I was pretty close the first time I did the boss.

About to go fucking insane. I have been stuck on Ornstein and Smough for hours. I've gotten to the second phase and have had Smough at 50%, but I always die to some bullshit. I read that killing Lautrec gives you some humanity, so I tried to kill him for another few hours to no success. The worst thing is having to run all the fucking way back.
Edit: I finally killed Lautrec, but I died in the process. Just as I dealt the killing blow I was hit by the mage's spell. Luckily, I got the reward.
Edit: Also beat Ornstein and Smough with the help of another player, he was pretty damn good, thank god.

Hmm, dunno what your setup was, or the PC spells. But on console that fight is ridiculously easy if you abuse (Crystal) Homing Soul Mass. In fact, most things in the game get raped by it.. So, spoil your own fun at your own discretion .
|
Yeah I read a bunch of guides that abused different things, magic and ranged weapons mostly. Unfortunately, I don't really have any spells and my crossbow is shit. I ended up using a lightning spear and a greatshield. I poked Lautrec to death while walking backwards up the staircase.

The Hydra is a funny boss. I ran to the bottom of darkroot basin for the first time and drew some of the ridiculous range attacks while fighting a crystal golem and it gives the impression of this super hard, big, badass boss thing out at the edge of vision range and furthermore obscured by trees that I want nothing to do with. Then much later I decide it is time to man up and go see what it is about and it is a fairly simple and easy fight.
I agree on the bed of chaos being a poorly designed fight. It easily forces you to 'exploit' the fact that it has that unique behavior of not resetting the fight when you leave/die, seeing as if you die after having completed a phase then there you are; it's been exploited. Making it worse is the extremely high probability of dying on at least one of the transitions, 2->3 with the final state of the thrashing behavior while needing to get back from a side to the middle, particularly since it isn't like it is something you can practice seeing as once you get hit once you've died and then you have effectively been teleported back to the middle as was your goal.
