Above all though, remember that there's no such thing as "too low level" etc in Dark Souls. So if you feel your gear is actually ok (+5 weapon, decent shield and armor), work on your own ability instead. All attacks are avoidable. Btw, how did you get cursed in blighttown, I have no memory of enemies cursing you there... unless you went to the tree area, where you're not supposed to go (unless you want to, it's a pretty difficult area, and optional). Repairbox is definitely useful, though upgrading shield is not worth it until last, it only slightly increases stability and bash damage. Importance goes more like upgrading weapon->finding different equipment->upgrading armor->leveling up->upgrading shield. Upgrading armor early before finding better preferred gear isn't bad, because it's so cheap for the early upgrades, and can make even light gear pretty strong for its weight. And I would definitely recommend holding off on The Great Hollow until getting the Lordvessel, or leaving there will be very annoying. | ||

So, it's a shitty port. I had pretty big issues when I finally got the game down, because My Games for windows live refused to let me log in. I put in the right details, got to enter my cd-key, then got an error that my login details were incorrect. "Fuck you" I answered, went into AppData/Local/Microsoft/ and changed Xfire to XFire_bak, then tried it again, worked perfectly when it was forced to redownload my profile. God, GFWL is SO fucking shit. Second, my 360 controller refused to work. This had nothing to do with the game though, my USB connections on my computer just sucked dick, I found a working one. I also installed the resolution fix immediately, and now the game is amazing. Looks better than 360, has no slowdown, can alt-tab to use the computer instead of switching my monitor (I use same for both computer and 360), can have music in the background... sweet stuff. Man, the game is ridiculously easy early on once you've beaten it before though. I just got to the bell gargoyle church, upgraded my uchigatana to +5, got the fire keeper soul and upgraded my flasks, and I'm still lvl 9, running only chest and legs from the pyromancer set to stay below 25% weight with uchigatana and dragon crest shield. Next time I play, I will try to coop pwn the taurus demon, should be decently easy to find people as my level is so low, while I will destroy him hard with my upgraded gear, should be good fun. | ||

im thinking about farming souls for those items allowing me to attack ghosts. is that practical? how many would i roughly need? | ||

You should pick up two of those items from the dead thing on in the pot on the way. Those will pretty much do you as you'll pick up a few more in the ruins. | ||

You can't really buy them outside of new londo. The female merchant only sells 4 of them. Also there are 4 at the start of new londo, 2 in the pot before new londo, and 2 in the pot at the bottom of the first stairs to the right(theres also another pot somewhere I can't remember, it'll have a guy in it). Those will be more than enough. The ghosts can drop 2 of the item at time as well. Each one lasts 5 minutes, so just the first 4 from the pots is good for 20 minutes of exploring. Ingward in new londo sells transient curses for 1000 souls each, and you need to find him for the key anyway. | ||

I wish I'd killed that stupid gold knight when I had the chance. at least I got a ghostblade after only a few kills You should be able to restore the bonfire since you aren't actually supposed to go to new londo until after you have the lordvessel from anor londo and also beaten Sif, Ingward won't give you the key until you have the lordvessel, or you have to kill him for it. You don't have to beat the boss of anor londo to restore bonfire and catch lautrec either, + Show Spoiler + the room before the boss is where lautrec of carim went and where you use black eye orb. Both of the ghostblades are terrible weapons btw, some of the worst in the game, transient curses are much much much much preferred. Ghostblades don't allow you to block the ghosts with a shield, they're just able to damage ghosts without a curse. With transient curse which lasts 5 minutes you can actually block the ghosts with your shield, use magic on them, and use an actually good weapon on them. | ||

My issue was fixed by going into Steam > Right-click Dark Souls > Properties > Local Files tab > Verify Integrity of Game Cache... There were some files missing and it now works. | ||
