running on items on the ground, which finally led me to get the Vegetal Shield; the Elite knight set, but also the leather set and the brigands set. I made that on pure randomness so i was quite amazed to find all this.
Then while walking in the darkroot garden i ended up in the basin, where I had to fight this Black knight, and I ****ing defeated him! First time I could do this. This allowed me to go to the Drake's valley where I couldn't stand a single chance + Show Spoiler +
but I tried to fight the first drake who destroyed me with quite ease while I couldn't do any proper damage (even with the drake sword). Nonetheless I spotted the shiny soul on the bridge after thi.s Drake and the one on the bridge it-self and I decided i would go on a suicide run to get it... and it was the spider shield
I don't know how good is that item but I don't see much use for it as my vegetal shield is really awesome.
Then I decided I could and would rip the head of the precedent Black Knights, hoping for some luck drop, but I didn't get anything except for plain satisfaction and a ring for one of them.
Still, I managed to beat the gargoyle after that which made me absolutely happy.
Now that i am in the lower undeadburg I went to the Carpa Demon and I couldn't move for 3 step: the demon rushed me really fast and I wasn't able to parish its attack despite the fact i was guarding, then the dogs bit me to death while the demon was laughing pointing at me.
ps: what was that kind of Hydra at the Darkroot basin, seems like some piece of huge boss.
In a game like dark souls just making progress can already give you so much satisfaction. Its one of the things I like about it the most. Also, the vegetal shield is problaby the grass crest shield. At least thats what its called in the english version I imagine youre playing the french version and just translated it freely.
Are there supposed to be tutorial markers on the ground all the way through the game? because I just watched a video of someone playing on PS3 and they had markers where I didn't. Is it different in the PC version or is it because I'm playing a cracked version?

Ha yeah thanks , I don't know if i'll try to beat it right now before or after the Capra Demon but i'll try to suicide run to the item below him, i hope it is worth it : D

Lol at transalation, vegatal shield. It is really good even if it's not 100% phys because rolling>blocking, especially if you like to 2 hand your weapons anyway. That second shield, besides looking pretty cool, does have a special use. It completely blocks poison damage through your shield, which is very useful once against the blowdarters in blighttown (their toxic actually kills you very quickly, while poison is just a nuisance).
Also the black knights do rarely drop their weapons, which are really good, but it's hard to get them since they can't be farmed + Show Spoiler +
until final area
and you usually need to increase your item discovery (by holding a few humanity, and with one of 2 other special items).
Capra demon pissed me off to no end the first time I played the game because of how quickly he'll attack you. The fog clears to reveal your mangled corpse if he attacks immediately. + Show Spoiler +
Run and jump fowards and to the left right away to (hopefully) reach the useful stairs.
Hydra is actually very easy if you get to the shore. Contender for easiest boss in the game.

Hmm, seems his damage is actually perfectly fine... lighting weapons OP. Still very impressive.
Doesn't look too difficult. Like, how did he even get hit the times that he did.
I just don't understand how dodging the spin attack works. video looks like it should be hitting him every time.
I think there are some frames in a roll where you are invincible. I hear this has changed a bit for PC version, but at least on 360, you needed pretty sick timing to rely on it.
The timing isn't really that hard at all, it's near the beginning of the roll(not instantly when you hit the button, though it's close just after). The timing is well placed such that you time the roll a little before an attack hits you and you dodge it. A good trick in pvp is to roll forward just before someone attacks you and you dodge their attack and are in position to follow up with your own attack or a spambustion. The pc version supposedly gives more invincibility frames, so it should be even easier.
As a side note, the way to check a shield/weapon's parry window is to parry the wall in a moving elevator and see the sparks, easier when moving up.
The PC version does not give you more invincibility frames except on mid roll where it is just a little more invincibility frames, fast roll and very fast roll is still the same a long with DWGR.
What makes DWGR so good is it has the most invincibility frames out of the other rolls making it great in pvp, which is why it had a well needed nerf. Fighting people in giants armor and black knights greataxe flip ringing around was frustrating to say the least.
Frustating, or fun when both players are doing it? Quite satisfying to outplay someone who is doing that at their own game, (though bonewheel shield rolling wars might be more fun and hilarious to boot). I've heard different sources say different things about the rolls(including only mid-roll buff, and all rolls buffed), so I'm not sure exactly what's different, but everywhere says buffed at least. DWGR also is not only useful because of extra invincibility frames, but it also has almost no recovery so it can be spammed, and goes a little bit farther than a standard roll. I'm glad they nerfed the equip load requirement for it though.
I think we should add to the OP what to do if you have an nvidia optimus laptop that can run this.
It kept trying to run my game without enabling my GPU and instead using the integrated Intel HD4000. I went from terrible choppy gameplay on my computer up to amazing no problems what so ever in the beginning so far performance.

You really should buy it, it's not that expensive. Half the reason to play it is to invade/be invaded and PvP/Co-op with people.

So erh... how did you fix it? I'm not sure what Laptop my GF has exactly but it's laggy as hell for her while it should be able to run it properly.

- right click desktop
- go to nvidia control panel
- in sidebar click "manage 3D settings"
- choose program settings instead of global settings on the right hand side
- click "add"
- find the EXE for Dark souls in the steamapps folder (the EXE you need is the one that says DATA.exe, as that executes the game itself)
- once added in the dropdown box called "select the preferred graphics processor" choose nvidia high performance processor
It should then use the dedicated GPU and not the integrated.
You should also download the following program to see if you have the nvidia card running or not

Gaping dragon may be simple, but he's still one of my most dreaded fights, simply because it takes forever at that point in the game. I haven't even touched The Depths in a few playthroughs regardless. Hate it. Master key master race.

get a better internet connection. Or forwarding the important ports for gfwl might help.
Anyone know what a good spot to help others in order to farm some humanity in this game is? I've had a sign at the top of the stairs in the beginning of the area where the Capra Demon is for ages, and haven't been summoned. I was at Sif's place, and I was summoned once but then again not anymore for 10 minutes.
Any place where I can farm a lot of humanity in general?

Yeah this is the Green Crest shield : D I wish I would use the game in english but I don't know how to change GFWL region AND I heard gamesaves could stop working quite easily, maybe it would stop because of this so I'll finish this game first ^^.
About the drop chance and the humanity, do i have to use the humanity (and be human while having humanity in my stash) to increase my chances or do i just need to have them in my stash ?

There are two famous spots you can try: * First bonfire in the depths, just run out and down the stairs to the right, keep going forward and you find a place with 8 or so rats. These can drop humanity and a run takes like 30sec-1min. * A room before Nito has enemies which spawn small skeleton babies. These keep respawning and drop humanity. The drop chance is small, but they spawn constantly so it's very farmable.
Search on youtube and you'll find videos of people using those spots.
Yeah, farmed the rats for a while (I'm about level 60 I think). Is the maximum amount still 10? I thought this was only for farming "live" humanity when killing enemies before a boss is down. I did some runs, and each run netted 1-2 humanities (with 170 item discovery), but then at some point it just stopped, and I didn't get any more in 5 runs. At that point I had 9 humanities in my inventory, but I used at least one (don't know if it was exactly one, though).
