He had 1 humanity and 5k souls or something (it was down in the Sewers in the Depths). Indeed. If it's a black/red shadow looking figure then it's another person. Don't expect good quality pvp'ers early game. You'll find most of them "trading" dragon eyes in the final area right before the last boss. It's a really good area as there's a perfect little circle type area to fight in. There are actually a few NPC invasions at certain spots if you're in human form. The Depths / Sewers towards the end is one of them. I'm not sure how to tell except for the names. If it sounds like an NPC name, it probably is. If it sounds like a gamer tag, then yeah, it's a person. NPC phantoms will usually spawn quite close to you, so you'll see them quickly, but players can spawn in a fair ways away and take a while to find you. Once you meet them, of course, you'll know if they're human or not by how they fight, like you mentioned.
Oh yeah I forgot about the 4 npc phantoms. They drop actual items though.

Well bit past the damn walk bug I'm having which is still annoying as all hell, but now I'm in Lower Undead Burg, and also did the Darkroot Garden. I might try PvPing now or some Co-op.
Also, I wanted to say that this is the best game I've bought in some years. I played the hell of out Oblivion, but then only put 77 hours into Skyrim. I've already put 10 hours into this game lol...
I would have gladly paid $60 for it, installed the res pack and it's even more immersive. Make sure you have a game-pad though lol.
Just wish they'd fix this bug I'm having, posted on steam forums and some other guys are having the same problem.
The res pack also fixed the mouse-pointer always showing bug.

Dark root garden is the easiest place to start pvp'ing. Join the forest covenant and wear the ring. Auto summons you to fight "invaders of the forest." At least until you can join the dragon covenant later in the game.

I'll have to read up on all this shit, wish they'd put a tutorial in the game for this stuff lol.
Also, to co-op, I can't just join random people's games to help them out or something? I have to add them to my friends list or some shit?

It should be the same as the console version ( assuming, i haven't gotten the pc version yet.) But the sunbro you meet in the beginning of the game (right before the bridge that the dragon rapes with fire) should've given you an orange soap stone. Use that to put your "sign" on the ground, and anyone in human form can summon you to their world to help them. You can have up to four people in one realm (helping i believe 4 invaders as well).

ah yeah i didn't realize it was for that, i thought it meant that i could summon people into my games.
i have to farm some souls to join that forest covenent it seems
do i get 3k every time i help someone kill a boss?
edit: just helped someone else, you do get 3k per and a humanity. that's sick!
edit2: man i don't think i can kill those guys to get to the forest covenant lol they 2 shot me and take forever to kill >.>

But then theres still like bosses everywhere, am i supposed to be soul grinding for a bit? or going back to the start of the level, and going down instead of up to the castle? just not sure what to do here, theres got to be a better way than to just try and kill these hard as fuck bosses which are one right after the other.
Don't forget to hit the dragon's tail for the Drake Sword, 200 att (need 16 dex/16 str to handle it). You can hit the dragon's tail being under the bridge with an arc, a few arrows do the trick and it is totally worth it.

That one sounds like Kirk Knight of Thorns, one of the four npc invaders. The npc invasions are always in the same place. Kirks armor materializes in the game if you beat all three of his (the others are only one invasion), good for troll pvp. It does like 12 damage if you roll into someone. I've killed people just doing that and dodging all their attacks with it, and feasted on their delicious qq tears.

They're actually really good for farming souls early on. For cheap tactic, + Show Spoiler +You can make them all fall of the ledge actually if you just run around to agro them all, then run back and drop off the stairs onto the small ledge face outward and shield, it's pretty funny. And then the hidden bonfire is right there too to reset five seconds later. On my new chars I usually save up to+ Show Spoiler +buy the crest of artorias from the blacksmith to open the shortcut and then farm those guys to upgrade some early equipment. The four that respawn give 2k souls each (last one only 1k). The blacksmith sells the early upgrade material too. Upgrading your weapon and armor is absolutely essential in this game. It is the most important thing to spend your souls on. It sounds like you still are using a basic weapon if you are having a hard time. Upgrade it. Seriously, there is nothing more important to spend souls on than upgrading your equipment.

i'm using the axe from the gargoyle fight, and it's +2. and the bandit armor that you get in the start of the game all +0 lol
also, do i have to be in human form to get summoned from the ring?

No, you can be doing anything, anywhere(except a boss fight I think), and the ring will still summon you. You can change out your ring too as soon as you see the summon message and you still get summoned. I usually farm for highest upgrade item to pass the time, while wearing the ring and also using an eye orb also for even more chance to PvP somebody.

well the 1st one i got summoned into some guy had some crazy ass gear and like 3 shot me lol
got im so fucking lost right now...
i went into the depths, was looking for a bonfire. + Show Spoiler +killed the butcher guy, saw the tunnel behind the crate, went down it, dropped down. killed the huge rat, then was looking around and killed a mage guy, then found a large shard or whatever, but then i just got dropped down again and i'm fighting these like frogs who spit mist. WHERE THE FUCK IS THE BONFIRE LOL
+ Show Spoiler +i finally was able to track down the bonfire...that was a huge maze. i got a sick ring that gives me HP back from every enemy i kill for my efforts though lol

It wasnt as hard as most people said :D
I'd probably just wait for the dlc to come out on the console. There's no much reason to play on pc in it's current state other than if you are not able to play in otherwise imo. But it's your money.

Is there anyway to skip the the intro videos with all the Namco logos etc? Tried looking in the dark souls folder but there aren't any intro vids to rename like with other games .
Also, what's the best way to deal with multiple mobs as a melee char? In darkroot garden I triggered a trap and 3 of the trees spawn and zerged me. With 3 mobs attacking at different times, it seems I couldn't attack without getting hit.

I just killed the giant moth.
I was thinking like "wow I found Mothra" :D
also went through the door where Havel is standing and in the distance I saw a giant kraken O_o ( my face at that time )

yeah it's a nasty trap especially if one of them grabs you. What you can do is roll away fast and then just do piercing heavy attacks if you manage to line them up.

pretty sure i just lost 11k souls and 9 humanity on + Show Spoiler +gaping dragon...there is literally no way in hell that i can do this encounter without losing that. i'm a full melee character and the only video's i've seen of people doing this guy are using ranged cheesey builds and doing like 150 dmg a pop while i only hit him for 38 lol. and i want his axe since i'm a bandit. is there any melee tips on this guy? i can literally only get him down to 75-80% max. he jumps in the air repeatedly before i can even get attacks in sometimes, just jump, land, jump, land. i can't do anything about that.
im gonna try for like another half hour then go to bed though
OH shit amazing if u die next to the door u can retreive ur shit without going in now i can go human form lol
|
This fight is all about patience as a melee character, the best opportunity to hit him is when he has just finished charging and when he slams his body into the ground. Turn up in human for so you can take an npc with you like solaire and things get a bit easier. I just finished this fight, solaire got killed when the boss one on about 30% hp and i just kept my distance than ran in when he did one of the two things i said. swung a few times and ran away.

was able to do it by having 2 players help lol
