You need another humanity to kindle the flame, each kindling costs a humanity in addition to having to use one to reverse hollowing. Don'y worry about the soul loss. 4000 is absolutely nothing. Some later single enemies drop that much. You'll get 50,000-300,000 killing a guy in pvp. Don't worry about leveling up too much either. Leveling up doesn't actually do all that much for you, and never level a stat past 50. What you really want to spend your souls on is upgrading your equipment at the blacksmith, it's a hundred times more important than leveling up. Dually noted, thank you. Gotta say, loving the mechanics of this game, still, very early in, like 2 or 3 hrs at most, but its a blast so far. The only thing i dont like is how confusing the castle im in is, hard to tell where im going, or supposed to go, but a little exploration never hurt anyone , well, thats a lie, but you know what i mean. heh.
There's a whole lot to explore in the game too. I can gaurantee you won't find everything on your first playthrough without help. Just as an example, without spoiling (hinting mainly) + Show Spoiler +There is a hidden fake wall behind another hidden fake wall that leads to a hidden optional area. And that's not even the fifth most cryptic thing in the game.

i returned this game on xbox after like 2 days... so dumb. walk around corner see 4 enemies, try to grab 1 and fight him 1 on 1 without the others /// rinse repeat for rest of game. + its hard for sake of hard, not hard thinking/challenging.

I'm dying a lot, not sure if I'm even in the right place and constantly have no humanity to select the reverse hollow option, despite collecting some, and I don't even know why I'd want to do it. Didn't really understand what I was doing on the level up option either. I feel like I'd need to watch a 30 minute tutorial just to get the basics, but there doesn't seem to be one. Will say, the first boss (well, I assume it was a boss) was fun, even if it killed me repeatedly for quite a while. Don't worry about reverse hollowing, you can beat the whole game without even doing it once. It's mainly used for multiplayer things (and to get NPC help and kindle bonfires). The humanities you find as items, you need to use to actually get the humanity. The humanity counter is up to the left of your health, usually a big zero. + Show Spoiler [For Length] +Basic guide to leveling up: Unless you're doing a specific build, your main goal is to get vitality and endurance to 40, which gives you health and stamina. This is the easiest way to play the game since this gives a lot of margin of error when it comes to getting hit, and with a good upgraded shield, you can tank pretty much anything with high enough endurance.
Strength and dexterity are used to improve your damage, BUT, this only helps if your weapon scales with those stats, and it needs to scale pretty good + your stats need to be high to get enough damage output to make it worth it. Your first playthrough, you should probably ignore both stats (only get enough to equip the gear you want) and then go for lightning or fire weapons (those weapons do not scale at all, so they do good damage regardless of str/dex).
intelligence can be completely ignored unless you want to use magic. Same with faith (though having heal miracle is not bad to save etus flasks). Attunement is the same, you just want enough to get the spell slots you want, having too many spell slots is not really useful.
Spoilered for length, but just wanted to say thank you. That's really useful! :D

That is complete and utter bullshit. You haven't even played the rest of the game(from what it seems like you said) and make a call on how the rest of the game plays out. Also yes, it is hard thinking and challenging it requires tactics and strategy while playing along side skill. If you don't like it though that's fine.
Edit: The new content is amazing, the new sorcery's are really cool and the new WHIP I LOVEE so much. You cut off the first bosses tail to get the new whip.

The only thing I don't like is the mouse sensitivity... I have a ps2 controller so I might just go ahead and buy an adapter for that.

man some fucking guy came into my game when i was killing that knight in the church in undead pariah or whatever, and i killed the knight (he just watched me but i was very wary of him just running up to me) and we started the fight with him at 100% and me at like 70% and he fucking killed me with like literally 2 hits left lol. soooo mad
at least he let me kill the boss, i didn't know if i could pot in PvP so i decided not to if it was BM or something haha
i like this kinda PvP though very unsuspecting lol

It is kind of BM but if you are only 70% from fighting other things its okay to pot up. Remember darkwraiths(people invading your world) can use humanity to full heal.

I see why it's called the Prepare to Die edition. I can barely move in a coherent direction and hit even the targets that stand still and do nothing using the keyboard and keyboard/mouse, so now I am very prepared to die the first time something actually attacks me. -_-
Going to have to wait a few days to try it on a controller, but I am not a happy person right now. Should have listened to when other people said it, but so far my experience with people saying something is impossible to play without a controller have always been that it's actually quite possible. =P

loved demon souls so much and wanted to get dark souls for ps3, then found out it was coming out on pc so i waited.
big mistake. jesus christ this is the worst console port i have ever seen. its unplayable with mouse, even the ui is kept from xbox, gonna have to borrow an xbox controller from my brother so i can even remotely enjoy it. and i thought the gta4 port was bad

So i beat the Taurus demon, or w/e his name is, and i dont know what do now. I keep moving forward, to the bridge, which i skip completely, for obvious reasons. But then theres still like bosses everywhere, am i supposed to be soul grinding for a bit? or going back to the start of the level, and going down instead of up to the castle? just not sure what to do here, theres got to be a better way than to just try and kill these hard as fuck bosses which are one right after the other.

i think i might go out and buy a strategy guide myself, not to make the game easy, but to not miss anything important. not going to use a cheese build or anything though...i'm having a hard time so far lol. personally i just got to the blacksmith and then wiped over and over on that necro mini boss

Yeah thats exactly the part, i take the left side, go through the tunnel, kill some rats and get poisoned or something, then, if i go up a staircase, theres a boss, if i walk straight, theres some giant rat boss or something, im sure i need to grind before doing that area. And also, should i have the blacksmith by now? or am i missing something here?

if you go back up the stairs again, there is a path that leads to the right and you're walking along the edge of the castle taking it will eventually lead you to the right side of the church (there will be 2 warriors and 1 archer there for reference) and to the right of them there is a pathway that will lead you to a bonfire and the blacksmith

some things might not be 100% right since its the ps3 version though

for the boar boss, I think the intended way to kill him is to use the alluring skulls thing you pick up in that area, just throw one to bait the boar over and drop attack from the ledge above, one shots the boar.

OMG i want to cry right now, for like 2 hours ive been trying to get passed that bridge and kill that silver plated bore, i would die, return the the undead burg start, and trudge my way all the way back, to just die more and more. Little did i know, you can kick down the ladder on top of that campfire, to make a shortcut. omg, i feel so incredibly dumb right now. Thanks for the link Silidons, without that, i would have just kept going the long way around, rofl!
