+ Show Spoiler + I'm a warrior because they're bad ass (and they had a good stat distribution for a melee play style, which is what I want to do, i also got the master key, because it seemed like the only thing which would help me the entire game, as everything else was single use. (the ring didn't seem too flash, and the binoculars.. well..) --The Asylum Demon-- a pretty straight forward boss for me. don't fight him the 1st time you see him. the second time you encounter him just drop down and attack doing a huge chunk of damage. proceed to roll every time he makes an attack animation, and do a 2-handed swing after dodging. I spent the next hour or so dying, running around getting items. To save a bunch of time for you guys. Head down the cliff, down the elevator, up the tower to the north(ish), through the locked door, and across the bridge. Sprint like hell once you see the big-ass dragon on the mountain and (quickly) get the items between his paws. proceed to die. Go down the lift again after reviving, and across the water (where the ghosts spawn), turn right 90 degrees, walk through an arch, and across the "Water" on a hidden path. pick up the item (firekeepers soul) and die (again) lol. take the soul to the lady in the cave (who cannot speak) and reinforce your estus flask. Equip the shield you got from the dragon (Sick fire resist). and head in the opposite direction of where we went before. There should be a broken (House?) filled with shallow water. turn left 90 degrees, and see a graveyard. sprint through picking up everything you can. there are some bad-ass 2hander swords, a spear, and some binoculars (Lucky i didn't get those, huh? >_>). Thats all the exploring I did, before equipping the winged spear, leveling my dex accordingly, and moving on to the undead burg (I'm sure i missed a heap of stuff already but that's okay) After exploring the undead burg for 20ish minutes i found a vendor who sold a bow, and arrows. I stocked up, and continued my quest. 3 deaths later i realized the bow would be a very circumstantial weapon. --the dark knight (1)-- this guy has a longsword and shield, and is scary as fuck. I killed him with relative ease, I used ~3 black firebombs on him, then legged it to the courtyard that has the tower (archer at the top) 3 undead, and a building with the ladder to the roof. Climbed on the roof, and used a drop-attack to finish of the knight. Got some titanite, and found a cool ring behind where he was standing. --The Taurus demon-- Pretty straightforward fight again. Run to halfway across the bridge, leg it back, climb the tower, drop attack him (Man i feel like I'm cheating using this thing), roll around for a while. climb back up. rinse and repeat until dead. A COOL NEW SWORD APPEARS Under the dragon's bridge, i saw his tail hanging arouund, and thought that maybe i could kill him, after lobbing about 10 arrows into it, i received a drake sword (has a ridiculous amount of damage, at least 2.5x better than anything else i own currently) --A man i presume is Havel-- running down the tauros demon's tower, to the very bottom, see a knight with a huge club, run up to engage in a fair duel. He proceeds to kill me in 1 hit with his club. after several attempts to avenge (Myself) I discovered once he starts swinging downward (not when he raises his weapon) he can't change direction, so rolling horizontally away from him, then running in and doing a 2-handed swing, then backing off again. this took a long time, and eventually, I got cornered at the stairs. For an unknown reason i jumped off the stairs, back to the basement of the tower, and he did too. and he.. died?. I can't confirm if the fall is a 1-shot kill or not, but he dropped a ring (Havel's Ring) which is ridiculously good. --The Boar-- wow this one took a few tries, before i discovered baiting him into the bonfires kills him pretty fast. dodge the boar, run up the stairs, kill all the undead in the area so it's just you and the boar, then bait the boar into fires until he dies. Got a sweet helm with loads of defense, upgraded it twice with tianite. --The Black Knight (2)-- This sick nerd baller has a huge sword, and is up the top of the tower before the boar (right after you come out of the sewer with 3 rats). I tried fighting him at the top of the tower, but this was extremely awkward, and decided to kite him to the bottom, and fight him in the open. currently a work in progress, i'll get back to him later, maybe when i have some better armor. EDIT 1: I kited him to where i fought the boar, got him in the fire until he died. ezpz. --The guy in the undead burg below the guy who shoots lightning bolts at you-- easy boss. Block when he makes an attack animation, dodge if you can. run in and attack him afterwards. MAKE SURE TO CLEAR AWAY THE KNIGHTS NEAR HIM BEFORE ENGAGING! SHIT! --the guy who shoots lightning bolts at you-- EZPZ, run up the stairs, kill the knight, kill the hordes of small undead, block the whole time you're near the magic guy. he only took 2-3 swings to kill (Maybe only 1, i kept swinging after he died) --Bell Gargoyles-- These guys are pretty tough. the 1st one engages you, and is fine, but when he is about half health a second one joins the fight, making it hard to get a swing in, luckily the 2nd one spawns with 1/2 hp. on my 3rd attempt i ran straight at the 1st gargoyle, rolled under him, turned around and.. chopped off his tail with a 2-handed swing. Got a sweet axe, and he seemed to be easier to kill now. Anyways after years upon years of dodging, i finally killed the 1st gargoyle. and the 2nd is a piece of cake. (Use the drake-crest shield for the sweet fire resist) --faceless demon who drops a demon titanite after the blacksmith-- fairly easy, keep your stamina high, try to keep the fight close range, and stay behind him. he attacks twice removing all your stamina, after that you can hit him once or twice. not particularly difficult mechanics here. ...to be continued

D: I didn't mean to make it easy for myself! I'm just playing through painstakingly, though I've stopped progressing for a little while to invade gravelord servants (whatever that means) PvP is sort of fun :D

Initial impression was REALLY bad, but I knew from the whiners in this thread, as well as the reassurances and warnings, that I should probably give it a real shot before judging. Controls were hard as hell to get used to (mouse and keyboard, felt clunky and off) but once I got used to it, I was finally able to enjoy the game, glad I did, thanks everyone. ^_^

It's up to you though, and that's what makes Dark Souls awesome, just like in Morrowind, if you know where to get awesome weapons easily, you can do that early on and make the game a breeze. Freedom to the player is always awesome.

Shit is so tense when you're out of healing material and low on health. You've "missed" one. I'll put it to you in a spoiler, if you want to get it: + Show Spoiler + By bell, I assume you mean after the gargoyle boss and by "church area", I assume you mean the one before the first real boss (taurus demon on the bridge). First of all, I assume you realized that after the bridge where the dragon spits fire, you can go down and kick down a ladder to get a shortcut from the bonfire before the first boss right to the dragon bridge. The next bonfire (not counting a "hidden" one behind the dragon), is by Blacksmith andre. You get there by going to the right instead of left (entering the church) by the gargoyle church.

By church area I mean way in the beginning, where the weak undead are, the kindled fire next to the broken staircase. And no, I didn't realize any of those things, lol, so thanks.

Just general advice (give a man a fish, teach him how to fish deal), if you ever get to a boss and the bonfire feels unusually far, it's probably a good idea to explore the area a bit more thoroughly, there's pretty much no boss which you should have to run really far to get to from the bonfire (though there are a few sections of the game where the bonfire can be a bit hard to find).

Maneuvering through the menus without a controller is amazingly tedious though. If i hadn't already played the shit out of this game on console I'd probably smash my computer trying to figure it out. Then again, those menus are pretty shit on console as well, but yeah, I can imagine it being terrible on PC.

The keyboard layout is alright (I wish I could bind to #'s and F-keys though!). My biggest gripe so far is with the mouse and the lock-on switching targets WAY to easily. If you don't keep a steady hand with multiple enemies on screen, it can send your camera flying in all directions going ape shit crazy.
