i've unplugged and replugged in the controller multiple times and it hasn't fixed it.
also how do i play online? You're always online. And this is definitely not a grind game. People have done speed runs at level 1. It's about player skill. It might make it easier, but it's still extremely easy to die. well i mean grinding at least until i know what i'm doing lol. never played a game like this before.

also how do i play online? That really sucks about the controller issues. I grinded a bunch on my first char too til I got used to how deliberate you have to be in combat. You are technically always online, but you probably won't see anyone for a bit other than the brief ghostly apparitions near bonfires and the messages. The online comes when you are invaded or start invading other peoples worlds. + Show Spoiler +If you want to try it out now, in the firelink shrine go to the right side up the stairs a bit, and then fall down the elevator shaft for 5 cracked red eye orbs. Use them to invade others worlds to PvP them in that game location, though they get used up. There are other permanent methods you find later through other eye orbs, and certain rings, the forest hunter ring one and the area iteslf are quite popular and easy to PvP. Many of the others are quite hidden. In fact, most of the stuff in the game is hidden and very very cryptic. You won't find half of the stuff in the game without a guide,. Steam says something about an quick arena for the pc version, the 2v2 and 4v4 sounds interesting, but invading is the main thing, and fighting 1v2 and winning is quite satisfying. ah okay thanks.
yeah idk whats wrong with it, and my mouse pointer is always showing in-game. i'm reinstalling it right now to see if it fixes it.

Soap stones. Look for ones on the ground (orange) or place your own (once again orange) to co-op. To invade there's a slew of different ways. Some being through covenant (easiest is joining the forest covenant to get a free way to invade) dragons covenant and red ( I think they're red, haven't played in a while) soapstones are all different ways to invade.

Erm... lol, I made a mistake and attacked the dude that you meet when you first exit the asylum. Am I fucked? :D

The very first guy in Firelink? No. He doesn't really do anything at all or sell you anything, so you're good. Later, when more NPC's get there, at least buy all their things before you steal their souls

Wow, I decided to get the PC port because I've heard nothing but good things about this game, but it (the port itself) is the worst piece of shit I've ever seen. I'm lucky I have a controller I can use but this port is nothing short of embarrassing.
Hopefully the quality of the game can make up for it but I have to say I'm extremely turned off. When people said it was a "bad" port, I thought they meant like Skyrim was a bad port, i.e. unoptimized controls and menus. But when it flat-out tells me I need to use the stick to move I feel like /facepalm'ing.

Well, the problem is that he keeps killing me lol.

Is there any way to unlock the door behind the sword and shield dude in the first area? I already cleared it, then restarted my game when I realized I hadn't been past that door. And now I'm running around in circles without a key. Halp!

You could always just run away for now, if you really can't beat him.
Go up the cliff stairs and if you can make it past second boss to ring the bell, at the bottom of the bell tower will be a guy to absolve your "sins" for some souls and sell stuff. Im pretty sure that doing that will make him not hostile anymore. If not, you should be good enough to beat him then anyway.

Later in the game you can open it coming up from the other side.

Nah, I figured out how to beat him. My god, a single-player game where strategy and some skill is actually useful. I think I love this game already.

Awesome, ain't it?. Every fight is a challenge that makes you think and plan and act carefully. The intense combat is what keeps me coming back to this game.

Just wait for Ornstein and Smough
That fight alone made me rage more then anything else in the game combined.

Lol that fight is easy as fuck. Crystal shield. 2.5k damage a throw. I think you can miss three throws and still kill them both before it breaks.
That's where I always got all my co-op done though. I paused in that area for easily like 50+ hours just helping people beat those two.

Well, thing is, I was a Knight, and it was my first time playing a game like Dark Souls, so thats why lol. Took me like a week to beat them then I did the samething you did, pause and help people beat them so no one suffered like I had rofl

am I retarded? can someone tell me how to use soul arrow? I started as a sorcerer and i cant figure out how to shoot it. It looks greyed out, though. Does that mean I cant use it yet? Isn't it a starting spell or something?

You have to be holding your Sorcerer's Catalyst (the wand), in order to cast the spell. Same idea for the other magics, you need to have your talisman out for miracles, and your pyromancy hand for pyromancy. Either hand will do, though I have it as an alternate to the weapon so my shield is still there if I need it.

for anyone intersted, thanatos is running the game, i believe he currently has a record for speedrunning the game on ps3. (nevermind, he just went offline)
for the gamepad, i used a ps3 with motioninjoy. it's basically like a third party program that loads the drivers necessary to use the ps3 controller with PC's. if you haven't used it before, it's slightly difficult to explain how to use it. you'll probably be better following a tutorial on their website or something.
but on the profiles tab in the program you can set the config for your ps3 controller, whether you want the same functions as a PSX, PS2, a regular PS3, or as an 'xbox 360 controller emulator'. <- this is what you want to use with games for windows live. it maps your controller as an xbox360 controller and allows you to play without mapping with xpadder, etc. but as far as i know, i can't change the buttons in game

getting the hang of the game a bit more, just got that crazy looking platinum helm from that armored hog, was afraid of dying so i ran back to the old checkpoint so i gotta clear a bit to get around him but i opened that gate. love the game myself so far besides this god damn walk-bug for me. idk if it's my controller (it's like brand new...1 month old 360 wired controller) because when i run backwards it never walks. i calibrated it multiple times, but for some reason whenever i run forwards half of the time it does not register it as a run, and only as a walk. it's frustrating as hell!

Can anyone tell me if 1680x1050 has letterboxing? and if using a PS3 controller via MotionJoy will work well with this? really cant stand playing games with two black bars when im already using a small enough monitor, and of course, using MotionJoy in the passed, has been sometimes good, sometimes bad, so any INFO would be great. thanks folks.
