I thought I had to melee him more, so I fought my way back but got ass whiped once more. Then I decided to look it up (because I couldn't do 1 damage) and apparently you need to do other stuff. I haven't figured out what I should do though.

I fought the boss, turned up in a random other place, and then fought my way back to him just to find him to be utterly impossible, but still thought that i might be missing something and tried it another two times or so. Bosses that you are not supposed to win against are BS. Well, the second half of the game is not nearly as good as the first half anyway. The Duke's Archives were just plain frustrating. Archers from every direction, far too many enemies (including casters). It felt just cheap at times. Fighting while being shot at from two-three directions is not my definition of a fair challenge.

Archives were fine. I liked it tbh. With the mages and the archers and the rotating stairs. Wasn't that though. I don't think I died a lot.

You're just heading into separate areas to go kill a boss and return once that's done. It's as if FROM suddenly realised they had a deadline to make after they finished the first half. The part before you have to kill Pinwheel is fun though. The part after that not so much.

Just because there is no direct path from Archives to Depths doesn't make it any less connected. I think teleporting with Lordvessel creates this false impression that areas aren't connected anymore cause you get loading screens. I'd say there are two major areas in DS - Anor Londo + Duke's Archives + Painted World is one part, while everything else is another. For eg. you can see Lost Izalith or Demon Ruins from Tomb of Giants and vice versa, plus you can walk between those two areas, though it'll take a lot of time. After spending some time in the game I really don't see how people can say whole 2nd part of the game is so rushed it's terrible. The only place I dislike is Lost Izalith, filled with dragon butts, fire, stupid boss fight and not much else and I can agree that it's clearly unfinished. But the rest isn't that much worse than the 1st part of the game. The most lazy part is having to fight Asylum demon 3 times during a playthrough. Also, archers and channelers in Duke's Archives are the best part of the area ![]()

Of course it is "the same world", but in the first half of the game you constantly get situations like Havel's Tower where you are suddenly cross over into a totally different part of the world and you realize "It was there all the time! This is actually all connected!", or the many shortcuts you open up which lead you back to places you already knew. In the second half, there is pretty much none of that, it is just multiple straight lines from a to b with no connection to each other. Yes, you can SEE Lost Izalith from the Tomb of Giants. But there is no connection. You can't actually get there without going all the way around via blighttown. I actually discovered havel's tower by accident. I opened a door, walked down some stairs and was suddenly attacked by this dude in huge armor. I defeated him, opened the door all the way at the foot of the tower and was amazed to see that this actually connected to the Darkroot Gardens. I got the same surprise when I found out that the closed gate in the sewer near blighttown actually lead to lower blighttown and the depths. It's impressive how interconnected all those areas are.

In the demon ruins. But he has a boss HP bar and everything. I have tried him with full Hazel Gear and fire protection ring but the fire tentacle attack still does 40% hp away. And it knocks me on my back.

+ Show Spoiler + As you noted he has two smash attacks, the best way to dodge them is to start running and rolling sideways as soon as he begins his attack animation, for some reason his tentackles have really big hitbox, so you need to cover a lot of ground to avoid it. When it hits run back to it and attack it as much as you can. He also has horizontal sweep that can throw you down the cliff so watch out for that.
