Flynn is not on the level of Schaub in terms of Backup QB turned FA turned highly paid. Schaub got SO MANY reps in Atlanta behind Vick because every time Vick busted for a 25 yard run he had to go to the sideline for a few plays to get a breather.
Flynn on the other hand, lit up one team in week 17 and thats about it.

The question is if Manning to Denver + Miami situation gives him a LOT more leverage with SF now. I don't see why SF doesn't just use a low draft pick on a QB. Its really hard to imagine anyone being worse than Alex Smith long term. Low pick QB? You must really know nothing about football or the 49ers lol, when has a low pick QB ever been successful outside of Tom Brady? It is so rare. Not to mention last year the 49ers traded up to draft Colin Kaepernick out of Nevada in the 2nd round. There is no rookie that could come from the NFL and do better than Alex Smith can in the second year of this offense and this many years with his teammates, in their first year. Not even Andrew Luck or RG3. Those two guys will be much better down the road but they wouldn't have the success alex gets immediately. Plus those are far from low draft picks, those are franchise QB's that'll be taken in the top 2 picks. Alex Smith isn't a long term investment, that is why they are only offering 3 years 24 mil. It is meant to lead to Kaepernick after 2-3 years in the system, who Baalke and Harbaugh both really like. NATE DAVIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! jk. Hasselbeck was a low rd QB as well though, but yeah generally it works out about once every never and the 49ers just drafted a QB in the 2nd round who's raw as shiet so... I really don't see where else Alex has to go. And yeah... I pretty much agree with this: My friend put this on FB, and I thought it was a good enough status to post somewhere else.
"Dear Alex Smith,
Your team was trying to get Peyton Manning. That's like a preacher taking a seat because Jesus walked into the church!!! So don't take it personal. And remember the 49ers are the team that has stuck with you...up until last season you were about an ass hair away from the CFL or Arena League Football."
I'm not saying anyone is saying Smith won't go back there, but he'd have to be a really huge ass to not go back.
Like honestly... say I'm flipping burgers at McDonald's or In-N-Out or whatever and I find out my manager is trying to replace me with Peyton Manning... well fuck it man my future's in his hands, but it's no reason for me to start pouting about it... Maybe Peyton decides he wants to make pizzas instead and my job is saved... I'M STILL NOT PISSED OFF AT MANAGEMENT FOR TRYING TO REPLACE ME WITH PEYTON MOTHER-FUCKING MANNING. Manup Alex Smith, get over it, and take your 8mill/year contract like you're suppose to or go enjoy the suckfest that is the Cleveland Browns. Speaking of Nate Davis I'm so fucking sick of 49ers fans who think our 3rd stringers are actually NFL starters THERE IS A REASON THAT THEY ARE THIRD STRINGER QB'S. Troy Davis, Nate Davis, Scott Tolzien, these guys fucking suck, low draft pick QBs suck unless they're named Tom Brady which was one in a million. Hasselbeck is different since at least he was in a system behind Brett Favre for a few years and when he got his few tosses in he showed to be decent. Then over in Seattle the new management there had come from GB and had seen Hasselbeck play. I'm talking about straight up 6/7 round picks that sit in 3rd string for 2 seasons until they get cut, they're not starters, ever. And your second comment nailed it. I honestly don't think Smith is that angry or pissed at all, its just the media blowing shit up that they heard "From a close friend of Alex". Alex has put up with stupider shit AKA mike FUCKING Nolan so something this small isn't going to bug him. Two more to add to the list beside or close to Tom Brady are Kurt Warner, undrafted, and Marc Bulger, 6th rounder.
Tony Homo as well... it still happens almost never. Seriously for every Tom Brady there are a million Cody Pickett's Ken Dorsey's, JT O'Sullivan's and Chris Weinke's. Very rarely do they rise up to the levels of a Shaun Hill. Even less make it to the level of Jeff Garcia, and the one's that make it to the level of superstars are one in a million. See what I did there? And Zlasher, it's Troy Smith. Anyways I guess I should stop posting in this thread now lol.

Check that again: 66, 49 for Flynn, 70 and 66 for Schaub, with one additonal year of 20 something.

Well....at least it wasn't the Titans. It's going to be so weird to see my absolute favorite player in a non-Colts uniform, though. =/

Those numbers would not have been materially worse had he chosen sf or tenn. If anything, financial motivation would have pushed him to tenn since apparently an ownership stake in the franschise was also on the table.
Peyton did not choose Denver over the other two teams because the Broncos offered him a superior financial package.

Jacob Tamme might go to Denver instead of Dallas Clark, but we'll see.

Yeah, Denver was pretty much the most competitive team available, and I bet the fact that they are letting him have full control of the offense like he did in Indy was another dealbreaker.

Matt Flynn 7th round. Maybe. We'll see how it plays out with him in Seattle, but the same system that decided he was a 7th rounder has now also decided that he's worth a whole bunch more.
Any confidence in the NFL talent scounting system is sorely misplaced. It is not perfect. It is not even in the same area code.

Hope Tebow finds a good home. I liked his 4th quarter antics.

The sites try and build this up, with oh boy GB has interest in Tebow now. It could all just end sooner rather than later whenever one team offers Denver a 5th round draft pick. Jets are now currently in the mix for him, but with Sanchez's emotions I doubt it.
If it wasn't for the following Tebow has I believe he would have already been picked up. Everyone afraid of the attention he will bring. Best team for him I still believe would be GB. Nobody will be asking for Rodgers to be benched. Sure Tebow wouldn't get much playing time, but its apparent nobody wants to start him. He could learn from Rodgers and who knows, maybe he could make an exit like Flynn.

But like I said, Peyton knows his football so he probably knows something we here do not. The other part of the equation might be that winning a championship isn't as high a priority as we all think. Not saying it's not on his radar, but the thinking was that winning the SB trumped all other considerations. Perhaps that's not entirely true.
Anyway, just a bizarre choice. I'm looking forward to the explanation as the story unfolds.
I realllllly don't agree that it's "clear" that Manning can turn any team into a playoff team. This situation is absolutely bizzarre...Who seriously knows if Peyton can EVER throw the ball like he used to? No doubt he has the game intellect still, but after I heard he went to Europe for "experimental stem cell treatment"....I just can't be sure he is physically capable of playing at the level he used to be.
