The report seems pretty firm. If true, I'm a little surprised. I thought Peyton was on a legacy run. I thought he wanted another ring (or two) to be in the discussion as the all-time best. Elway did it in his final two years as QB.
Anyway, if this story is true, I'm perplexed as to how this move makes sense. San Francisco seemed to be holding all the cards a few hours ago, with the signing of Manningham and Moss. And of course their defense... There's a team that has Superbowl written all over it. But Denver? Really?
The Broncos have a lot of cap room so maybe there are some pieces that they can still go out and get to surround Peyton with a championship caliber team and no doubt that was part of the pitch they made to Peyton. But they've been on the sidelines with respect to free agency for so long while the Peyton drama unfolded that I'm not sure if all the elements are even out there any more, at least not the obvious ones. Saturday's still available, and the Broncos will need to sign him asap. But who else?
Poor Tebow. But in the end, he needs to be somewhere where the organization believes in him and will build the team around him. And the idea of Tebow staying on to "learn" under Manning is simply a non-starter. It makes no sense on any level. Tebow needs to move on and I hope he finds a good home where he can prove all the doubters wrong.

doesnt make sense to me either for all the above reasons. we'll see how it plays out though
i don think broncos will end up grabbing any pieces
|
BC Lions could use a new QB.
I think you're underestimating what an upgrade from Tebow to Manning could potentially mean for this team. I think that it could make them serious contenders.
|
The Broncos defense is perfectly designed to be opposite a Peyton Manning team. Decent secondary, and a fantastic pass rush go well opposite high scoring offenses.
Good line, good run game, good young receivers (and I'd imagine some signings to come) and a veteran coach (vs the newer Munchak or Harbaugh)
Still thought he'd go 49ers though, the AFC West is going to be a very tight division this year. Smith looking at Dolphins lol, sucks for the 9ers
|
I'm gutted because the Tim Tebow story was the most hilarious/interesting thing last year. Now there's doubts over whether he'll start for an NFL team ever again. I don't see why Manning wouldn't go to a top team like the 49ers; now he's given himself a mountain to climb. It could end badly.
|
Expected the 49ers.. oh well. Manning has got a good line and a sick defense so the broncs got a serious chance of contending without their tightendesque qb TeBoW
|
Yeah I really thought that Manning was going to the 49ers will all those rumors regarding Alex Smith moving on and what not. I suppose that the Broncos have offered him something that he doesn't see at San Fransisco given that the 49ers have a stronger squad.
Nevertheless, as a Broncos fan, I'm pretty happy about this - but I have no clue what will happen to Tebow.

Manning doesn't want to take a pay cut(aka his ego is too big to take less money) to win another championship thats why he took Broncos over 49ers. I really hope this ends badly for him.

Or maybe he just likes Denver...thinks it's a better team/city.

Good. Tebow had one of the worst passer ratings in the NFL and his team was still able to make the play-offs. To me, that says something about the quality of the rest of his team, so getting a legit quarterback like Peyton in there seems like a good step by Denver to me. And a good move by Peyton to put himself in a position where he can compete well. Plus, I've never been a fan of all the hype and mania surrounding Tebow...
|
No way, wow this is kinda unexpected, interesting to see how his results are next season.

SHOW ME THE MONEY!
This is the us after all. To bad for Tebow. I didnt like the guy, but if nothing else, he brought entertainment to the league. I would actually check out the bronco games, just to see what ol' tebow was up to this week. The NFL will be a more "serious" place without him, and loose a little bit of that movie magic he brought with him.

Thomas is the only decent WR there, with potential to grow. Decker is nothing more than average, and just clicked with Tebow a lot because they started on the practice team together early on. He's not the second coming of McCaffrey. Royal is gone, and he was the real gem there outside of Thomas. Manning kills it with speedsters who run sharp routes.
The bit about the pass rush d is true, but that rush comes from exactly two spots and you'd imagine teams with a year of tape on Miller will cover him better in 12-13. Champ and Dawkins are all they have in the secondary, and as good as they are, they looked like players i ntheir mid 30s several times last year.
The line is pretty decent, but i think them as good runners is slightly misleading. That has a lot more of what they were running and how that style of play complimented the line/Tebow. Moreano is running himself out of the league with his play, and Willis McGahee, as much as he rules, is 32 or 33.
I still think based on the AFCW being pretty meh overall, they have a decent enough shot to win the west. However, the Chargers are still talent wise the best team and Rivers + Meachem, Royle, Floyd, Gates and Matthews is lightyears better. Their D is also in the same ballpark. It is very farm from the guarantee that they come out of the division, as everyone seems to think. I definitely do not think that team goes anywhere in the playoffs based on numerous holes that they have.
The biggest hurdle of all is going to be getting all those WRs on the same page as Peyton. These dudes were running an offense last year that had what, 30 different passing plays? And they're all young too. It's not like it is some savy wrs taking a few weeks and getting in there.

It's money and the team's willingness to adapt to whatever suits him. It's certainly not the team being better than the Titans, or definitely not the niners. Both teams have way more talent on offense, and d's that are as good or much, much better

I agree. So much for the Tebow era. The Broncos hyped him up a lot last year and now he is expected to return to second string?

We have to assume Peyton knows what he's doing. So I guess the Broncos are contenders now.
Tebow will be a starter somewhere else. I am predicting this will be the proverbial blessing in disguise for him. He needs to be with an organization that believes in him. The wins will be self-fulfilling once they do. People are saying Jacksonville (because their new owner loves Tebow). That would be interesting because Jacksonville isn't all that bad, just messed up right now. New owner though with a can do spirit, so who knows?
And how about Miami? If Smith decides to to check his ego and let slide the fact that the niners threw him under the bus, then Miami is suddenly still in need of a QB. And with their woeful attendance becoming a serious issue for the business, Tebow would be an instant fix.
In Florida, there is God and then Tebow.

Wait wait, I know about the news, but this seems like news to me as well. Mensrea is back? O_O

Tebow to Miami would be horrible. We barely have a team and to bring on a new quarterback? don't get me wrong, I love Tebow. I myself am a Gators fan, but I don't see Miami going anywhere with Tebow :/

Naw. A colt just wants to be a bronco.
And on second thought it does make sense for Manning to want to go where Tebow is - where else would Manning go to get his neck miraculously healed?

yeah tebow is without a doubt in my mind going to florida.
denver is an interesting choice, it wasn't a shock or anything though. i guess peyton just did not like arizona geographically. i guess he wasn't interested in Tennessee either.
personally i wanted to see what kind of magic peyton and fitzgerald could make
maybe he REALLY didn't want to play in the NFC

wow they ditched tebow? I want tebow on my team
