I mean I have BGT installed which means I can play from BG1 to BG2: ToB inside the BG2 engine. Not to mention the mods and tweaks. When reading about it the amount of new stuff seems pretty minor.

Btw I saw a lot of people running two weapon style with classes differents than fighter, is not vastly inferior to say a kensay/berserker doing the same thing ? PC is pretty weak but i just got him a +2 dagger so hopefully he will pick up a little. If i had kivan or coran in my party i'd expect them to have a good % of kills. Also dorn has 19 strength so he hits real hard, it's usually him who gets the killing blows.

I mean, there's no game breaking bugs, but there's stuff that won't let you continue quests, UI bugs and so forth.

And the best part is that this will almost certainly inspire BG modders to create their own Black Pit challenges. Which will greatly increase the replay-ability of the game.

And ultimately I think that the black pits will be the most useful addition that comes out of BGEE. Because it's a mode that they never had before in BG (in the original game or mods): a mode where you fight one tactical battle after another. Not sure why we never had a mod like this since it's kind of obvious. What I wouldn't give to be able to fight all the various dragons/bosses in BG2 without having to go through all the quests And the best part is that this will almost certainly inspire BG modders to create their own Black Pit challenges. The AI is back to its vanilla BG dumb ass self which killed it for me. As much as I commend the effort, and actually like the UI, currently if you are familiar with modded BG you lose way more playing this version than you gain. I do think once(if) a few of the better mods are translated across well it will be the superior version though.

Also, some games turn the first few levels into a tutorial level, or even just skip them (and by some games I mean NWN(2) + expansions).

Anyway, I would like some suggestions from you for my next playthrough with respect to my build. I would like to do something that is challenging, but not tedious. Please also give suggestions on companions (besides the usual Edwin / Viconia). Currently, I am leaning towards a pure mage or sorcerer, as I really do like the magic system, particularly the strategy involved; the other option is to build my main to be a "maximum tank" and focus on the rest of my party for damage output (rather like the concept of this, as it will force me to play with all 6 characters instead of just controlling one). With respect to difficulty settings, what do you guys think about the highest one? I want a CHALLENGE!

I plug these mods a lot, but, if you haven't already: http://www.gibberlings3.net/scs/ http://www.gibberlings3.net/scsii/ Very simple to use, very customisable, and made with the intention to remain true to the original games. No stupid addition of random lvl 1000 enemies labelled challenging, just a seriously souped up AI that acts like someone/thing in their position would (mages will prebuff with stoneskin like anyone would and archers will focus fire your weaker part members), and where some enemies didn't actually use half their abilities in standard scripting, they now do. I don't usually mod games as they tend to veer away from the original but this thing blew me away, adds a nice element of challenge that is completely believable and not at all cheesy. Personally I was pleasantly surprised trying a wild mage, unpredictable and enjoys the extra spell slot of a specialist mage with no school restrictions. A lot of people swear by the sorceror though I like to have loads of known spells, even if a few of them are a bit crap. Edit: I would also consider Ascension if you go with SCS as it makes the ToB boss fights a bit harder which seem easy otherwise after this mod.

When you pick spells you always need to ask yourself will this spell still be useful in 10 levels and choose accordingly. So for instance with sorcerers you never take Sleep as it soon becomes a wasted spell slot. But a properly built sorcerer is a wonder and something to fear. I was soloing ToB with a sorcerer ![]() Never done a sorc...how many known spells do you get...6 for the low levels? I can't imagine 6 useful spells at level one, obviously sleep is amazing for about two levels but: MM, Chromatic, Shield/Armour(?)......Spook maybe..... I suppose if you solo it is different, like presumably you have to get Knock, and having some spells to hand you wouldn't memorise otherwise (unless you plan every fight) could be tactically useful.

I want a CHALLENGE! well kensai mage is kinda the most power-gaming pc you can be, which does have a tendency to make things a little easy. Something interesting that I have been doing in basically every playthrough for years is go through the game with a party of 4 instead of 6. It just makes fights more interesting as you have to think a bit more on how to approach them as you have less spells/skills to spam, while I also like the faster leveling you get as a result.

I tend to keep a full party when I play, and I also tend not to worry too much about party members soaking experience. There's plenty to go around, and you can live with an underleveled member or two as long as you've got a solid core of four members.
