I'm not sure which mods they implemented in the game. Last time I played through BG2, I had to mod it quite a bit to have a good playing experience (I'd rather stick to pen and paper rules as much as possible).
How good is their vanilla implementation? Is there a game guide that lists their ruleset? (Skills, level progression, etc.)
If it's not too buggy I might get this... I haven't played BG1 in a while and my original box is probably lost in another content. Plus, I never played Tales of the Sword Coast.

Getting into melee at low level in an AD&D game is basically submitting the character's health/life to the roll of the dice. Even with pretty good stats, you'll get hit at least 2-3 times per 20 attacks, so in other words, you'll get hit a lot.
There are no universally bad classes, but it's worth noting that AD&D doesn't really have the modern day "tank" concept. Instead of thinking of your Paladin as a tank, think of it as a hard carry in MOBA games. You want to keep him out of the harms way as much as you can until you can stack a couple of levels of experience and good items on it, while using other characters' range attack to farm early on.

Shapeshifter Druid is pretty horrible. Don't know if he has been buffed in BGEE but in vanilla it was probably the worst possible class/kit to pick because he doesn't receive the bonuses he's supposed to. If you know what you're doing any class is playable though.

Lol, low level ADnD is rough. Got my fighter killed by the first wolf after I got of candlekeep XD. Should probably have used a potion or something but I sure as hell didn't expect that ^^
Anyway, I ran into a crash pretty early when I tried to rightclick one of the back markers on the map, what is that supposed to do, is it like a fast travel or something?

So he's been buffed for sure. Vanilla was 1d6 damage and armorless, not to mention bugged sometimes.
Wow, from what I've read shapeshifter even seems borderline OP in BGEE in the beginning.

rightclicks on the world map had no purpose in the original.

Didn't mean the world map, but the local maps, there's black markers on "places of importance".

I find hard to play the game, due to the age and graphics (dunno why, i can perfectly play other old games, like UFO), but it just gave me what i needed. New RPGs suck balls. No freedom, no exploration, no permadeath, no real choice, not real RPG feeling.
Hope i get hook up, but i am just playing 30 minutes 1 hour and i have to drop it because of the UI and graphics ;p

Hope i get hook up, but i am just playing 30 minutes 1 hour and i have to drop it because of the UI and graphics ;p Well this is the problem nowdays.Developers spend so much time creating the graphics they don't have time to make a huge game world and a long game.I completed Dragon Age 1 a year or so back and it was a great game but it was no baldurs gate.DA is way more linear.
Anyway i just gave the constitution libram to Kagain so he has 21 constitution now.80 HP at level 5 i think it is, totally ridiculous! Theres a hidden ankheg armour in Nashkell, bottom left of the screen in a paddock.I equipped that on Dorn as i was unable to get the smith in Beregost to make me some up, i think maybe because my reputation is only 6.
Current Party : all around level 5-6 now PC - swashbuckler rogue dual wielding daggers kagain dorn - still running around 45% of party kills for chapter neera - mages finally starting to become useful, have fireball now.Horror is coming in handy. viconia montaron - He has been good but i am getting rid of him soon.Tiax and eldoth are both possibilities.
Next time : PC - Bard (Blade) Xan Kivan Jaheira>Feldorn Branwen>Yeslick Rasheed

Shapeshifter has never been balanced, too good in BG1 (with Tutu), too weak in BG2. They said on their forums that they were eventually going to balance it but with the crap ton of bugs they have to fix before, probably not going to happen any time soon

80 hp isnt bad. My level 7 beserker has 105 hp unbuffed Pretty sure he could solo Sarevok at this point, and I have not reached BG yet.

How do you manage that ? My PC is always doing more than 60% of the party kills no matter the playthrough.
Btw I saw a lot of people running two weapon style with classes differents than fighter, is not vastly inferior to say a kensay/berserker doing the same thing ?

Yep. Did you kill the fishermen north of the friendly arm inn? They are part of a feud between Talos (God of Lightning) and a goddess of water. When you annoy Talos he remembers.
