If it is just an "official" modded version of BG, really that's disapointing, especially if they try to sell it for 20-30$ lol.
I mean lets be realistic, they announced it not long ago for a release this summer... and BG2 will follow closely. AND they are working on an ipad and mac versions. You should take a look at Trent Oster's Twitter ( https://fr.twitter.com/#!/TrentOster/status/187311670467629057 ), it's not only about adding mods, they are also including new areas, musics and characters. Honestly i dont even own the BG series just because i always borrowed it from my cousin, but if buying the BG 1&2 Enhanced Edition can give them the opportunity to make Baldur's Gate 3, then that's a really good deal. Worst case scenario i'll own two great games with extra content.
All right lets hope for it, its not far away anyway.

This...
I feel like they're trying to make money off of ipad version and trying to get people to buy a pretty-much-modded-version of BG
They said they would release new screenshots of gameplay weekly. Where are they now?

Together with Starcraft and Warcraft 2 Baldur's Gate had to be my fav game ever played. This news if amazing ! I can not wait !
|
The desktop versions of both games won't be changed much, Tofer says. They'll have higher resolutions and full-screen modes, as well as "working" multi-player, but they won't look too different from their original incarnations in 1998 and 2000.
No wonder no screenshots. Fuck you. Preying on those who don't know of widescreen mod.

Nothing about this in quite awhile..whats going on
|
well, it does seem more or less confirmed that they will add some new music and new areas into the enhanced edition, seeing how they hired a writer etc. However, either they hold back a lot and are not communicating, or they have like 1-2 people working on this and are getting nothing done.

DLC for Baldur's Gate EE has been announced on Trent Oster's Twitter.
I guess now we know the reason behind these re-editions of the original game : the mighty $ !
|
Welp, that's it for the reenactment of the best game ever. Goodbye BG!
|
They had the potential to do so much more with this, then they just completely shit the bed by giving almost 0 updates in 3 months then telling us the only difference is HD and some DLCes. Sigh
|
So, they don't really add anything to a game i could get on ebay for about 2-3€ if i wouldn't already own it, and then probably even turn parts of that game into dlc for which you can then pay additionally?
And the worst part is, if this does not sell, publishers will probably think "Well, there is simply no market for that type of game anymore" Instead of "People don't like to get ripped off"
|
What a disappointment

Holy !@#$ and I was so pumped. If its true I hope everyone is going to pirate the sh*t out of this $$$ factory. Reviving old gem like this and try to get free money out of if can't become a trend.

They're doing this, so they can finance other projects. They will work or are already working on BGII and then, maybe, they can make something completely new.
|
Now let's please not rush everything and spread how shitty they are. The developers put some effort into this and have the right to earn some money. We have no knowledge if they cut things or if they add things to the game with their DLC approach. We've got plenty of time to just not buy the game if we disagree with their ideas about the game, but it's childish to put this product into the grave before it comes out.

I won't buy this anyway since its something I already have. And I would gladly show support for the company if it was actually releasing something new...
If you mean that I should buy this so that they can produce another game, I'm sorry but that would make sense only if I was given this new game for free then.
What a dispointment. Time to move on :O
Of course, all 'im saying is based on "maybes"... but lets be realistic that would be a big surprised if there was anything really new in this: screenshots are same as original, no news, small team, quick release... Sorry can't have much hope with that.

I don't understand how you guys can be disappointed... Being able to play BG in full HD on a modern screen is already awesome, they've also announced new content that is going to be shipped with the game. They've confirmed at least two new adventures one of which will be related to the bhaalspawn plot and a new companion. If they want to add even more stuff to the game on top of that and get paid a few bucks to be able to release more enhanced editions (PST, IWD, BG3, who knows...) I don't see anything wrong with that.
|
You can already play in modern resolutions using mods. You can even use BG2 engine to play the first one, with new classes spells etc etc...
As for new quests, maybe, we'll see if they are worth it. The thing is... mods already propose tons of new quest and new npc and new dialogues and stuff (not that exact quest I agree). So yeah...
|
I have had such good memories from the old BG2. Cannot wait till the new version comes out

You can but it is neither pretty or easy to set up. This BGEE is surely not going to cost a price of full game. For 20-30$ it is worth to buy what they are offering.

I thought BG1 on 1920x1200 looked like shit... so grainy. If they actually make the graphics look good in higher res im quite happy.
