Also, games of the BG era just explained concepts a bit differently. While modern games explain stuff through lots of tooltips and tutorials, older games tended to do that in the handbook.

What I actually meant was, you need to know the rules to know what is happening behind the curtains, the background stuff you don't see is what I meant. But if you just want to play the game or a good difficulty you don't really need to, that's true.

Oh well, maybe they were just tired and we will have a big announcement on Monday. On the other hand, if they're just in the process of "talking" with parties involved with the BG series, I'm afraid we won't see anything for quite a while.

You guys are way too much into powergaming / minimaxing and autistic stuff like that lol. Try that on a harder difficulty than easy and your screwed. Some people actually like a challenge and figuring stuff out. Doesn't have anything to do with "autistic stuff". You don't even have to do a lot to learn about the underlying ruleset. The hints in the manual and the game itself are enough to learn about the rules. You just have to read carefully like an autist does, you know?

Now if you like to wank over your sick l33t optimized build it is all fine. I enjoyed the game even when i couldn't tell the difference between D8 and 2D4. Also shut up about "difficulty", if you have played the hard mods you should know it is all about being a save/reload whore, abusing the pathfiding/fow/pause and some retarded combos and using your knowledge of the game to get the best items asap (Sup Drizzt). Yep it is really that autistic. If you want to be manly go play a roguelike.

A 8 or 10 man party in the BG series would really make my day, I'm pretty sure that the lack of XP cause by such a big party would make the game more interesting/challenging.

Especially considering the time passed, the change in publishers, the recent controversy around BioWare and the general trend of the gaming industry. Chances are we'll see a hack'n'slash third-person game filled with microtransactions released in late 2014. I really, really want to believe, as Baldur's Gate easily is my favorite gaming franchise of all time, but I doubt a new part could reach or even surpass the older games in quality, scope and replay value. Imagine this: What BG3 could be like today, with Bioware once again creating the game and with the powerhouse that is EA publishing it! Coming in early 2013: Baldur's Gate 3! - Scroll Wheel™ dialogue selection options! - Paragon© or Renegade® character development unlockable with Collector's Edition or 10$ on-launch DLC! - 1st and 2nd tier spells exclusively available through Facebook events! - Expand your party with the on-launch Minsc™, Edwin™ and Boo™ DLCs, each only 4,99$! - Origin exclusive for superior user experience and veteran support (You will surely get the Karkland Waterdeep!) In order to create a genuine D&D experience for everyone, we have done away with the tedious gameplay of previous games! Dialogues have been decreased to single setences! Combat now features Mass Effect's proven Space Bar™ action system for proning, crouching, attacking, covering, sprinting AND drinking potions! Staying true to EA's commitment to quality and lasting franchises, be prepared for Baldur's Gate 4: Waterdeep in summer 2013, Baldur's Gate 5: Demigod in late 2013 and Baldur's Gate 6: Astral Plane (PS3 exlusive) in spring 2014! No words can describe on how much i laughed about this.

You guys are way too much into powergaming / minimaxing and autistic stuff like that lol. Roleplaying is not just about the ruleset and maths. I agree, you can easily finish BG without knowing dice rolls and stuff, and i find it good(thats the point of crpg to automate this for you). The only flaw of combat in BG was for me, beyond screen killing (fireballs to edge of the screen etc). Also it was to easy to exploit some fights with traps. Sometimes it was really tempting to put 10 aoe spells before enemy attacked you, because losing 1 character was basically reload(it was to troublesome with reviving and gearing again a specially when all of your chars got full inv). Thats why i kinda liked Fallout system better(imho the most enjoyable in rpgs), or even planescape where fights were less "epic" so less focused on casting 20 spells ASAP. I mean if we breakdown BG later fights its pausing non-stop almost like turn based. But definately the EPIC is the word here, it makes it both autistic and enjoyable in its own way. Dont hate on Mass Effect, its still a pinnacle of video gaming considering current trends ![]()

The changes from ME1 to ME2 confirms this since many of the light RPG elements in ME1 made the game worse and they decided to remove most of the RPG aspects. It's easy to blame BioWare for simplifying the game for the casual masses, and there's probably some truth in that, but overall, I think ME1 was an attempt to do something new and for ME2, they had realized what worked and what didn't. A much deeper RPG in the mass effect universe would be awesome, but I don't think that's the direction the main mass effect franchise wants to go, it has a huge following of people who don't want an RPG but prefer the action-adventure style it has right now. It's not that people are stupid, they just aren't deep RPG fans.

The 'Big News' announcement cited in the OP from Atari seems to have been unrelated to anything about Baldurs Gate. It was this Pong for smart phones thing. The site however, is certainly a place holder for something on the horizon related to BG. The only question is if its BG3 or Remakes/Ports of BG or BG2. And i would guess the latter.
