Syllabear is one of the 'harder' heroes to play but once you build him and his bear up, he is friggin good. You will cut through all kinds of bullshit.
My build (I'll list the important items):
hands of midas/power treads/sange and yasha and myself (range mode until late game)
power treads/hyperstone/basher/basher on bear
the rest of the items depends on your opponents
Use rabid on your bear if you have to choose between yourself and the bear. You will get so much entangle and bash that if you're decently lucky, you can kill stealth assassin before he can return invisible.

yea, there are different ways to play him. Alot of it should also depend on who the enemy heroes are. If you just buy a little bit for yourself and start giving the bear items early, you need to go bear form somewhat early so sylla can survive as well. I think one general build would be something like boots ,wraithbands ( or bracers in case of many nukers)and a ror, then give your bear treads and a basher. Then you can go from there.
edit: this is just another possible early game bear build from what heen posted. It basically revolves around keeping the bear alive and make use of pushing abilities while your in the process of building a basher;O Just make sure Sylla has enough survivability when you do this though.

I played my first dota game yesterday(whats dota short for anyways;p), got a hero named "Magnus" - weak as hell, didn't do SHIT damage and died instantly :| What am I supposed to do with the guy?
|
Ok, I played Lone Druid like a hundred + games. My impressions: Best way is to have Syllabear maxed at 7th level and synergy maxed at 8, no special, no second. Special once at 9 level, then max roar. At start I byu Ring + 2 Branches. No boots - doesn't need them. Then - recipe for blood. After that go for Boots and Sange+Yash, while byuing some rings (+2 armor, since bear has only 6) for the bear. Then - Power Thread for the bear and if possible - Boots of Travel. At this poin all differs - Bashers are good, HyperStone is also very good, return damage to the syllabear if too many strenght heroes. Basicly Lone Druid is very good at interval 7-16,17 level. If happened to not gather enough money till this moment you're screwed.

DotA is a crime to wcIII.
|
I prefer maxing out bear/rabid/synergy in that order and get bear form later.
I don't see the point of getting boots of travel on yourself. Power treads are better and cheaper on this character.
He's pretty much good from lvl 12 to 25 imo. I don't know why you're saying that he gets worse after 16?
Armor on the bear seems pretty useless to me. People will usually not go for your bear in a fight.

Bear is always useful in pubs for when the player leaves and he has a buff bear. You can use it to hold back creep pushes while your towers beat on creeps. Heh.

1. DotA = Defence of the Ancients 2. Magnus (Magnataur) is really pwn hero - extremely good for team games and very good for soloing, he has decent skills, pwn ultimate etc. you just have to learn how to play him.
|
Magnus is such a boring piece of shit :D
He isn't for pwn4age killing. That isn't to say he can't fight but he is a steady non-sneaky hero. After your basic low lvl items, get a perseverance so you don't have to go to town. It will also help you spam your 300 dmg nuke which costs only 90 mana -_-;
Later turn it into a battle fury and you will be a creeping god.
Use your buffs on heros that deal the most damage/can get the most hits in (such as stealth assassin).
If you're new to dota, try some of the easier heroes and after you have the general idea of how to play, you can start randoming with ease.
Some of the easiest heroes (imo):
Zeus, Stealth Assassin, Bounty Hunter, Luna, Lich
There are tons more but I think the ones I listed are pretty effective for newbs.

Why the hell did you mention only the tricky heroes that are really hard to play vs some decent oponents?
Zeus - will get ganged and raped all the time so he can't grow/farm SA - wards early = VERY hard time for him BH - has really low hp and you really have to know how to play him, otherwise he's worth as much as shit Luna - why the hell most people get aghanim instead of refresher for her and why the hell they make int builds instead of getting stuff like satanic/buriza for her? Lich - only good for noob pubies or with decent team, otherwise this hero is pretty much useless (I can pwn him being solo vs him in a line with siren or sven, especially sven)
Easy heroes are:
Troll warlord - just go aura/stats, farm and get nice eq for dmg Bone - good in noob pubies - useless vs decent team, similar to troll warlord but you get ww Sniper - most boring hero ever, just go for stun/range in the beginning and try to find some wounded enemies to finish them off with your ulti, easy stuff Leoric - no need to elaborate
|
I don't see how the heroes you listed are easier than the ones I did. I guess it's a matter of preference.
The reasons you gave for why my list was bad can be applied to all heroes.
The heroes you listed require decent farming and a solid build. That is a harder task for a newb than using very simple, yet deadly skills when he sees his enemies.
Seems like you're just contradicting me for the hell of it. You also forget that since he is a newb, he will most likely be playing with other newbs/semi-newbs?
Having a shitty troll in my team is far worse than a shitty zeus.
|
True, sorry. For beginner levels Lich and Zeus (preferably on the same team) just own
|
yeah.. definitely do NOT try item dependent heroes such as troll and faceless to start, as they are late game as opposed to early game ints that are relatively straightforward such as lich and zeus.
|
Now some fun for all of you sick enough to watch DotA replays:
1. Lion ownage
2. Chen ownage
With Chen I went for the mekansm/dagon build and did something like 12-3 (enemies were viper, sniper, tiny, leshrac and terror so it wasn't all that easy, especially with huge delay and night without sleep). I kind of enjoyed this game, many close calls and some nice pwnage.

If you think a Lich is useless, you have not played in any good DotA games. He has insane harassing ability, can deny more easily with Dark Ritual and has a killer ultimate.
Luna cannot be played as a fighter hero. Check her stat growth, her spells, etc. You can argue about that one but regardless Luna cannot survive w/o her extra mana pool/regen and extra hp. She is frail. Just because she has an attack enhancing aura does not mean she will be able to hang with the other designated agi heroes such as Clinkz, Anti Mage and Sniper.

I'm definitely going to try out that sand king next game! :E

Just to keep things alive:
That is many buff, yes?

Yeah, bounty was quite a beast this game (even got me once when I got omnislashed and then ganked by lycan + bounty - my second and last death this game).
