You know you could pay 120$ and get a huge head start. It also looks like if you buy the highest founders pack you essentially unlock most of the games launch content and future content from the get go. You may be a little under-informed here. The 4 mechs you start with for the $120 package is a small fraction of the starting mechs. First off at least 3 for each weight class, maybe 4 will be released, and each will have 3+ variants to choose from. It's more like 7-8 percent not "most." It's definitely following the LoL path with quicker XP gains through premium memberships and re-skins, hula girls, fuzzy dice, and drink holders for the cockpits for a small charge. They're clearly not going the "gold ammo" route that ruined WoT for many people since all weapons are the same in game, the smallest mech has the same laser options as the bigger mechs and none of them cost IRL money to use.

I believe you are right and I misread what they were offering. However, after looking over it again, it looks as if the founders pack gives you a nice chunk of ingame money (RP ala LoL) and a boost (IP Boost ala LoL). Depending on how they implement the Mechs, it looks as if you play regularly from launch and in beta with the boost and the starting money you shouldn't have trouble keeping up with it.
What I'm hoping for is if they have a rental system for mechs!
Also if they do a weekly free mech cycle that would be nice.

They are free to use, as in no repair cost and such, but they are stock only. The down side is they will only net you 25% of the C-bills you would normally get. The two reason for this is one, these four mechs will change from time to time, so people can try out new mechs with out buying them. And the second is in case you somehow run out of C-bill to fully repair your mech, a trial mech ensures you will always net money.
And iGrok is likely right about the four starter mechs.

I just got a headset solely for this game. I haven't been in a team like clan game since MechWarrior 4. Can't wait for team battles to start (custom matches and such).

Been having a blast. Wish I had known they would lock what founder's mech you could get on the 7th. Blanked and thought I had selected hunchback, but got stuck with Atlas. Good for now, but not once matchmaking actually enforces weight restrictions.

Ugh repair costs! I hope that means that reduces the initial purchase price of the mechs. Would suck for you to play a Heavy Mech and get slapped with a huge repair cost due to weight class.
Alternatively they could do a individual part damage model, but depending on repair costs, I could see people just deciding to giving up if they are in high damage (close to breaking)
We'll see. Really hype for this game.

Hmm.... I didn't even consider repair/rearm costs, assuming they add them.
I assumed that it would be free, but it would take some time, thus forcing you to run a different mech. It would indeed be annoying if you had to run several games with trial mechs every time you wanted to run with whatever customized mech you choose simply to afford to repair. That or the costs are going to have to be balanced heavily against the win/loss prize support.
Honestly I'm not sure how any of that would go...
Note, I've taken a new liking to snipage, at least with the new improved bullet-speed Gauss Rifles. My Dual Gauss Catapult is wrecking much face from very long range. My only problem is I can't zoom in enough!, that and having to use infered normally to get visuals on mechs. All maps have a pretty bad haze and lower view range atm.

You should always be using infrared except on caustic, unless you get up close in a brawl.

I can't find a release date on their site, is there one? The game sounds pretty awesome, but I like the sound of the "free to play" stuff better than the "buy-in to the beta" part.

"End of summer" for the open beta (which for a f2p game just means the start of open play). I don't know how hopeful I would be for that "end of summer" time.

when they add repair/rearm cost, which they said they will, its probably gonna be based on a system like world of tanks (as many of their systems are, apart from gold ammo). that is to say, if you are decent you will probably make more money than you lose on repair/rearm on most mechs.

I'm pretty much waiting atm for this game to get better. Was having fun till the founders launch. Now its all just a mess. They really need to just hurry up and implement a few systems that make the game more enjoyable, like match making, weight limits etc etc.
Was playing with my guild for a while and we had fun but they see it as kinda pointless atm. Waiting for open beta when it matters.
I wanna test the game and provide feedback but at this point, almost all of my issues are related to missing features and bugs their already aware of. Got plenty of other games to play/test atm so i'll prob wait till open beta.
