TL FANTASY HOCKEY 6![[image loading]](http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m176/jozsefs/fantasy.png)
Welcome to the 6TH!! season of TL Fantasy Hockey. Here's to another great season. Hak is the defending champion and the man to beat. We can't forget about Eti307 who after a 3rd place finish in 2009 finished second in 2010. Will he be the one on top in 2012?! Or will you be the new champion with a few extra bucks in your wallet?
New to Liquid Hockey and interested in joining?
- Experience with Yahoo! Fantasy Hockey strongly preferred
- You must stay ACTIVE for the entire 6 month season
- Buy-In is $10, PayPal only
We use the Head-to-head mode, for a little introduction into how to play see below:
+ Show Spoiler +[QUOTE]On October 22 2006 22:38 jkillashark wrote: What is fantasy sports? You draft good players from different teams and you manage them. Simple enough? Well it probably isn't so I will explain a little more in depth.
YEAH! One of my players got a lot of points! Different players play on different days. If a player gets a hat trick on Tuesday but you left him on the bench on that day. I would call you an idiot. Why? You wouldn't get the stats for that player!
So what do I do? Everyday the players who are playing need to NOT be on the bench. There are 2 Center, 2 Left Wings, 2 Right Wings, 4 Defensemen, and 2 Goalie positions. Those positions MUST be filled by the respective category. A C Pos must be filled by a player of yours who actually plays center. There are 2 utility spots. These are much easier because they can be filled by anyone except goalies. So say you have 4 centermen playing one night. Dang it, you only have 2 center spots available each night. AHHH 2 utility spots are available! 2 centers playing in the 2 C Pos and 2 centers playing in the 2 utility spots.
Note: Sometimes you will have very few players playing one day and nearly your whole team playing another. This happens. You will have to muster up your amazing manager skills to decide who gets benched and who gets to play. (Sometimes you might make the wrong call and a benched player has an awesome night.)

Current stat categories are up for discussion. Right now we're looking at G, A, +/-, PM, PPP, BS (blocked shots), Hits W, GAA, SV%, Saves
|
I'm in again. Registered again as Metalgods.
What was the thought process about eliminating SOs and SHP? Too wild card?
|
It was GWG, not SHP that was removed. And for that reason: too wildcard. Blocks/hits increases the value for defense men as well. Outside the top defenders, the previous stat categories made most defenders of little real importance.
|
Hey I'm down to join again. My email invite says it's invalid though which is weird since it's only 18 hours old.
|
I'm in of course.
After two 2nd place and one 3rd, it's about time I win one. I don't want to be the Yellow/MKP of fantasy hockey
|
Glad to see this back for another year. Some thoughts on the stat categories:
hits can be kind of a random thing thats based on individual game scorers though, which is my only concern there. I think a weekly format might make this problematic. I'd consider shots on goal in place of it.
Blocked shots I have no experience with, they seem like a good idea so that 4th defensemen aren't useless.
I'm not a real fan of saves to be honest since whoever has the most games is guaranteed to win that basically. I do think shutouts should be back though, especially if there is saves in order to make the better goalies more distinguishable (gaa sv% and sho should favor them) over people who just stream as many goalies as possible (most likely winning wins and saves).
|
I played a league with blocked shots last year and I agree it's better. Defensemen have an added value. I also think shutout are a good options for goalie. we should pick one of either gaa or sv%. Both goes hand to hand so it sucks that you automatically loses 2 categories when one of your goalie doesn't perform that well and the other is having a great week
|
I gotta agree with eti on the shutout gaa/sv%. I'm personally a fan of gaa, but I think sv% might be better to keep.
Either way, PM'd, hope I can play
|
I'd love to do this but I always neglect my fantasy hockey teams every time I have tried it, so I will spare the agony.
|
|
|
I'll definitely join, just attempting to remember my yahoo account...
Also +1 to sv% over gaa
|
Adding losses is a possibility too. Or removing hits and going to 6 skater stats / 3 goalie stats.
|
I am quite interested in this. O_O
|
money sent Scott, I'm Gordon Bombay this year as well btw
|
send you money sometime soon im usually either the wonky groins or hi im ewic windros
|
I don't think you should have hits or PIMs in there, it fucks the game up and lends itself to randomness.
|
Pims are a must... adds more depth to your selection.. Makes tough guys viable.
I like hits as well, even if they are not really tracked all that well.
Finally found out my account info, and paypal money's been sent.
|
Pims I am not that crazy about. Hits yes though. It's a relevant stat.
I'd wanna see how many people we can get before talking scoring though. If you add too much in a shallow league, you can just roll with anyone off the bench.
|
I guess I'm alone in the PIMS category It just adds a lot more options for people to pick up. So you're not completely fucked if you miss the draft and get shitty players.
|
I never really understood why PIMs was considered a category to win. I'd replace PIM with hits as well
|

Oh I definitely like more options, but PIm is behind FO and hits for me.
|

I hate losses as a category because it's more of a team stat than anything. I guess you could say the same thing about wins though. Maybe consider dumping both of them and going with GAA SV% SV SHO?
I still think shots would be a good choice.
While we are debating categories why not also consider expanding the rosters to 3 c, 3 of each wing, 5 d, 2 util
|
On August 31 2011 06:23 Eti307 wrote: I never really understood why PIMs was considered a category to win. I'd replace PIM with hits as well
Hit's are added up so fucked in the NHL... There are times I would count maybe one hit and the guy would be credited with 6 or 7 in the game. Then times I would count 6 or 7 and they get 1 or 2.
I don't see anything wrong with PIMs, gives you points for being gritty! Can't have a team full of panzies.
|
I agree xife, there was one game buffalo vs fla where EVERYTHING counted as a hit, yet other games where it is much more strict on defining a hit. Hits are just too random.
|
play guys at home to rack up hits =]
I'd be down for dropping w/l for real goaltending stats. though that kind of kills the value of a dude like jon quick who will be so so in those besides racking up wins
la's gonna be good this year
|
Something in me can't give up on the big W. It's nice when your goalie has a shitty day but his team manages to save him anyway so despite that 87% SV he still manages the win.
If it's between PIM and Hits, I'd rather keep PIM.
I think a 6/3 stat line is the best to keep skaters and goalies balanced. Possibly 7/3 but that doesn't look promising with all the feedback.
|
A 7/3 split is fine. Goalies are already too strong in fantasy hockey. With a 6/3 split one guy racks up 33% of your stat categories. It makes the need to draft an elite goalie too much. They're too important.
PIMs should stay, its a good stat for getting tough guys who can still play. Hits is more subjective per arena as has been said. If we want another skater stat why not consider Points? I prefer Hits over Blocked Shots though
Goalies have to have both GAA and SV%. Just do Wins and those 2 if you only want 3 categories.
I'm Metalgods btw.
|
How are we gonna do power play scoring?? PPG/PPA or just PPP?
and what do you guys think about faceoffs?
split stats, i am not sure yet. my mind is still in Fake Football mode. I'll think about it some more
|
FO make centers too strong, especially the top tier centers.
|
Yeah I guess there's no other stat we could add to balance out other skaters.
|
I'm in
Can't wait for the draft!!
|
I agree with putting PIM back in and taking out hits.
I want to see L be put in for Goalie stats to make managers think even harder about whether their goalie should be playing or not. Goalie stats count for 1/3 if not more of the score right now, shouldn't it be made harder to control 2-3 players for 1/3 of the scoring?
Also, i'm tired of finishing under .500 every year so far, i'm ready to own you all this season >=|
|
you already take a risk in gaa and sv% by playing goalies a lot, why should people get punished for a 0-1 loss?
|
We got 10 teams so far. Have room for 4 more so make sure to PM me. If you haven't paid me already, make sure you do.
Right now, stats are looking lke this S: G, A, +/-, PIM, PPP, blocks G: W, GAA, S%
|
Still looking for either 1 or 3 people to join.
Also, if you haven't paid me, please do so (or at least let me know you haven't paid). Been incredibly busy as my PhD program started a week ago. tt

People notice the miscounting of hits - but what about the miscounting of shots? Prepare for a "The More You Know" moment:
There are several arenas which have a history of underrecording or overrecording shots. The data and analysis is on http://objectivenhl.blogspot.com somewhere, the guy puts out so much content I don't even know where it is anymore (I read it at least 8 months ago) - so if you want to just take my word for it I can sum up the takeaways I got from it.
The New Jersey Devils are the biggest culprits for UNDER-recording shots by an average (if my memory avails me) of about 2 or 3 a game. (this isn't a matter of fewer shots being taken in NJ, but is a matter of a different recording standard by the guys in NJ) The effect is that on average a goalie's SV% is worse, and a players shot total worse, when they are playing in New Jersey. This trend has held true for over 6 years, so presumably that isn't about to change any time soon.
Tampa Bay (along with 1 or 2 other teams I can't remember), on the other hand, is the opposite. They over-record shots above the average.
(Ie. when that grinder is repeatedly trying to shovel the puck over the goalie's pad a bunch of times, in TB they might get 2 or 3 shots for it while in NJ they will get0 or 1 shots for it)
This is too small a discrepancy to regularly help you in fantasy league...but when a player like Roloson gets traded to TB, you know that in conjunction to being on a better team, he will also get an extra % or so onto his SV% from the extra shots being counted. On the flip side, if you have 3 goalies playing and you can't decide which ones to bench, the one playing in New Jersey may be a good candidate because the SV% will be, on average, lower.
The more you know!

Still need someone? I have a horrid track record the last two times I joined so I understand if you say no. But this year I can actually watch the games, so I will be more involved. Let me know.
|
Isn't your advice the opposite though Gnial? I'd rather have a goalie playing in TB so he'll get more shots and thus a higher save percentange, not a lower percentage as he would in Jersey. For a skater, I'd rather have him play in NJ. Less shots lead to a higher goal %..
If Mani joins, we'll have 13. One more spot left.
Reminder, draft is the 25th (Sunday evening)!

I think you misread what I typed. I agree.
Although most fantasy pools record total shots, not goal %, for forwards. So maybe that is where you misunderstood. You would rather have a forward playing in TB if you wanted a higher shot total.
If goal % was a stat category then you're right, NJ would be better.

Damnit I missed the first round, and got Daniel Sedin
Putting him on the chopping block, who wants him? (I just personally don't like him, but I know he produces so give me some good offers yo)
|
man dk fucked this draft harder than he did his football one!!!
my team is pretty good offensively, i picked most of my dmen to fill the non scoring stats (minus Burns, who will own) and my goalies are pretty boss. Hank, Roli and Reimer should hold it down well.
whoever flab was probably has the best team. Mother fucker sniped so many of my picks
Who is everyone?? I'm Windros

nice to see you back in the league mani
Are the only originals left me dknight eti mani and phantom?
|
pfffftttt, i didnt snipe you nearly as bad as i was sniped all game. I really wanted JVR. Dude's gonna kill it since he's gonna be relied on more this year, and with our scoring he's gonna be amazing.
I think JVR blows up for like 80 something, and Bobby Ryan flirts with 100 this year. Bobby Ryan is really good.
I don't think I playedi n the first season, but I've been around for a while. I need revenge after 2nd a few years ago
|
damn it! two seasons in a row i miss draft T_T, but luckily this season I was blessed with Vokoun and Thomas :D heh heh heh...
there are still 1-2 players in FA that i'm really suprised in seeing...I can't wait for waivers to be over :D
|
(Team Pretty Lights) I've got a surplus at C and my goalies are retarded. Anyone wanna trade?
|
My only regrets are not getting JVR and taking Brooks Laich. :-/
|
JVR was on my list as well but got picked just before

It's true. I'd gladly go 0-X in fantasy sports to see my awesome New England teams trounce faces.
Oh wait, all of the major sports teams have won titles the past seven years. Suck on that Jersey trash!
