It's horribly easy to get 200% ES (not counting from INT) in that new tree.
on the other hand for life builds u gain 12 hp per level instead of 8 hp. a 50% increase which is very significant, you don't have to spend so much on life nodes anymore meaning more nodes for dmg and other stuff. (yes 160 now is same as 250 prepatch )
but yeah the es nodes are way too delicious though.

How do you calculate that 160% equals 250%? You seem to forget that a massive amount of HP came from gear. Lets make an example for lvl 90 with 80 hp on boots, gloves, helmet, belt and chest, and 60 hp on rings+amu.
1.1: (80*5+60*3+90*8)*2,5=3250 life
1.2: (80*5+60*3+90*12)*1,6=2656 life
So you lose 600 life in that calculation, even more if your gear is better. It happens that you have to sacrifice more points to get enough life now. I think 200% in the new tree might be ok (for HC).

Really? Don't remember that. And I don't believe they will do that now. However, after having a second look, I think Life/ES hybrids might have a place in the game now.

Patch 0.11.0 :
Monster damage has been reduced in all difficulties to accompany the general reduction of Life and Energy Shield passive skills.
Not sure they'll do it either, this time there is no ES reduction I think. Maybe items get more base HP from mods. There has to be something at least..

They have to nerf the mob damage, otherwise Life based Witches/Rangers/Shadows would basically be impossible. I just ran builds all night and I was struggling to break 150% on Witch/Rangers/Shadows without going into the Scion Wheel or Mara Tree, which is a huge waste of points for all three.
Then again, they also said they'd make life viable in Onslaught and that wasn't true in the slightest.

I just did a quick tree calculation base on the gear of my physical st ci ranger on Ambush ( b4 the switch to low life back then ) for a ci wander build Casual 8.5k es and a metric tons of wand/crit/proj dmg/attk speed nodes. 36 dps nodes at lvl 85 to be exact. The rest is traveling/defensive/utility nodes. The chance of them increasing monster dmg globally is almost non-existence consider the state of life. Though they might increase global monster hp + mob density for Rampage so who knows.
Feel so OP. I'm crying with tears right now.

I am debating what new builds to do in the new league, any recommendations?
Probably just going to play softcore again on a casual basis.
Some builds off the top of my head: - Det Dead: slight buff due to witch/shadow changes I think. Seem to be easy to gear though i will prob curse myself if I die to ele-reflect mobs - Arc (?): nerfed but possibly still viable, just not as OP as before... - Ice Spear: it gets buffed big time, might be worth playing around? - Some bow build? Bows nodes seem to have gotten quite the love, I heard people talking about bows getting buffed as well.
I might look into a phys wander build maybe, aren't high dps phys wands very hard to come by? (At least i don't recall ever getting one via drops)

I've just realized that I have no clue what skill I'm going to use with my staff build. Maybe molten strike? I wish Cleave worked with staves, I don't want to use Sweep. also what's Hege's unique staff going to be? I heard something about it but it's kinda unclear.

I'm totally clueless on what to play. On the one hand, the new witch tree looks totally OP when going CI. So I'd like to try another summoner or maybe Ice Spear (which is said to get buffed) or Freezing Pulse (kinda love to freeze stuff lol). What worries me about summoner is that auras probably are getting lots of weaker for minions so summoner is probably getting a bit worse. Still would most probably be imba enough but I dunno.
Bow physical nodes look absolutely ridiculous. You can get huge amounts of phys dmg as well as crit, but that way you only get like 120% life nodes because else you'll need to travel long ways.
I've also tried to make a Cleave Duelist with Axes. Damn... you can get huge amounts of physical/axe/dual-wield dmg, but idk if having like 150% life (+IR) is enough for a melee.
Also any builds with Staff/Dagger/Wands(/Claws?) is looking really attractive now that you only need 2 good phys rolls and then you can use weaponmaster to get a third one.

I think someone mathed out that something like 160% life was about equivalent to 220% life on the old tree. Also, apparently Belly of the Beast is better than a Kaom's for life. Basically, flat life on gear isn't as good because there's less multi and more base.
Since no one has posted this yet, http://www.reddit.com/r/pathofexile/comments/2dinjr/crafting_bench_mods/ ChuanHsing posted the bench options for everything but the Master Cartographer. I'm hyped for a lot of those mods. Especially the crit multi option. If I ever get a decent staff that already has some crit and phys and IAS, that's what I'm putting on there. But it'll definitely be so much easier to make a decent phys staff with benches. Can you stack the +phys and the %phys vendor recipes on the same item?

You can only vendor recipe for 1 mod, then craft 1 more with the crafting benches. The rest is RNGG time with normal currency

- Ground Slam - Arc - Detonate Dead - Some full freezer (maybe rebuilding my Cold Snap build and this time bring it to maps) - Wander - Ball Lightning - some kind of CI Bow build - Crit Freeze Staff ST
Dunno which one to pick first though.

hmmm so apparently no 100+% ES crafting option just like 68%. well, still that doesn't change the fact that ES nodes got buffed. so even if you can't easily craft 400+ ES gear, that just means it's gonna be really expensive.
I wonder how much ES you can get now lol, I managed to get 415% increased maximum ES with 94 nodes (+ 56,4% from INT; actually you need less nodes to reach that but I somehow also picked up liferegen & zealot's oath). Just for fun though, even with like 200% you can have 6k ES with not terribly expensive equipment.
