im a newb myself, my ranger is lv31 in act 3 has 780hp, 900 armor, 150dps (on auto attack) special attacks vary and between 30-65% resist depending on element.
not sure if that helps, I may be well undergeared too! lol.

My question is: what's the best place to grind, say, 5 levels where I am right now? Should I grind the Slums in Act 3 or is there a spot in Act 2 that's better? I'm level 48 right now.
I managed to solo through A3 Cruel
the first half of A3 is the hardest part of it since since the poison bombers just annihilate the minions and do tons of chaos damage if you don't have chaos resist or CI
the rest of A3 is difficult depending on your other elemental resists. if you have high resists, then it should be pretty smooth to run through until Piety which is a battle of attrition summoning skeletons and whittling her life away
the Flame Sentinels absolutely annihilate everything as Spectres
I had Enfeeble and Spell Totem + Skeletons + Damage + Life linked and Spectre + Zombies + Damage + Life for A3 Cruel
if I was playing HC though, I'd be scared as hell going through A3 Cruel. I managed to not die in A3 Cruel but had many several near death experiences.

Luckily I was in a party when I tackled him in HC so it wasn't as scary ;D. When do you guys think is a good point to grab Chaos Innoculation on HC? I've had some close calls with losing most of shield into the hp range (like with Oak) but I feel like on average that Chaos attacks from stuff like the Alchemists in act 3 have a way higher chance to kill me :s . I used to respec to CI in the mid 40s pre-patch, it's probably even tougher now that CI got nerfed (haven't tried a CI build post patch yet). I would say preferably around the time you get to all the chaos damage mobs in act 2 merciless.

Actually, that's pretty good gear. My HC bow ranger at level 30 had ~120dps, 750hp, 400evasion, 30-40% resists.

Rush for the 30% resist all shield nodes, resolute technique and +5 max res, grab an all res shield, and nothing can touch you. Well, the Alchemists can, but you get a shitload of life anyway. Find one good 1h and you're done.
As with everything, it was fairly easy on a bow ranger, but not A2-easy. Sewers are annoying, puncture is annoying, but most of the content is facerolled.
My Witch, however. My poor Witch. Everything resists elemental, everything is fast, tons of AoE to slaughter minions. I tagged along with friends to progress, but I'm still wondering how long it would take to solo. At least 2x slower than the ranger.
I was actually running a 2h lightning strike build with poor gear it was rather easy for the most part. An all resist shield and some more lightning resist would definitely have made it pretty easy. Next hardcore character is wearing a shield in Act 3. : )
Btw, in regards to resolute technique, would that be counterproductive for lightning strike builds? I think lightning strike has to crit in order to shock?

sweet! i've had some lucky drops and play with a small group of friends so ninja looting isn't a problem. We share what we find for each other instead of keeping it to sell/trade.

Split Arrow with Fork is the most hilarious ability I've ever seen in an ARPG. I love this game.

Do people use Enduring Cry? I have a 20% quality one in SC. Is it worth anything if I sell it? Never traded in this game, no idea what anything costs lol.

I use Enduring Cry but I doubt it'll be SUPER valuable. I have a Marauder that I play with my Witch friend. I use Enduring Cry to generate charges and also to get aggro off of my friend. I feel like it's more of a group-oriented ability, though. If I was playing solo, I'd probably use Warlord's Mark instead.

20% enduring cry is half a gcp. the quality isnt the slightest bit important on enduring cry because youre using it to make endurance charges.

Wow that's awesome... I love using Enduring Cry with Conduit in group play... and 20% damn! Not a big trader though, so no idea what you would get for it.
Edit: ^ah looks like quality doesn't matter on it after all. So far the only gem I have that I can see a noticable difference on is a quality Ethereal Knives, but I'm sure there are plenty of others.

isn't a 20% qual gem instantly vendorable for a GCP if nothing else?
Because that is how weapons and armor work...

Just played this game a few days ago and I have to say that I was not impressed.
It's not even the "beta" aspects of it that are letting me down, but I think it's just how lackluster dungeon crawlers seem to me. I never played Diablo II and everyone keeps commenting on how similar the two games feel. I despise how small of an inventory I have, especially when it's halfway full with different kinds of scrolls. I dislike the potion system that is devoted to me drinking potions every 5-10 seconds. The graphic style is abysmal to me, even on the highest graphics settings. The story isn't captivating enough for me wanting to know more about the characters and what is actually going on. The skill tree, while complex and full of tons of customization doesn't hold enough appeal for me to test out different combinations at maxed out levels due to how boring I find the gameplay.
In terms of smaller quality of life improvements that I would like to see are: 1. Floating combat text. While I can see myself doing more and more damage, this is still a game of stats. The one with the higher stats should (in theory) in more damage and it's nice to compare damages with other people on a hit basis rather than an average. I'd like to be able to say "Wow, I crit for 10000000 on that skeleton" but since these numbers don't show anywhere, getting better gear doesn't feel the same.
2. Improve the minimap / tab map. It honestly looks horrible and reminds me of some archaic 8-bit game on the NES.
3. Helpful tips. When I started playing there was no real direction or anything to help guide me into the features of the game. I didn't know about skill points until level 8 because no one told me. I basically just had to open up the hotkeys menu and memorize exactly what everything did asking "oh I wonder what this is" which is usually followed up by "i have no idea but i assume it's important for something"
