The base radius of the gem is pretty huge (26 iirc) so I feel like it shouldn't be hard to get overlaps and multihits with cascade+echo to sustain the charges for bypassing (it's pretty easy to get near 100% crit with 10% base), but I'm a little concerned about how it'll feel in practice for single target.

AW of Self Reflection/Energy Blade Guardian has been fun, and very tanky, but damage isn't as high as I was hoping for. I was thinking that having absurdly high base damage from Energy Blade plus going minion crit would give me more damage than I knew what to do with, but instead it's "fine for red maps but juiced rares take a long time in T16s and don't even think about doing uber bosses." It's hard to be sure, since transmuted gems aren't working in PoB yet, but I think I have something like 2.1 mil Shaper DPS with all my AWs up. I know somebody else in the guild was doing a similar build, so here's my PoB (with some config nonsense to try and simulate AW of Self Reflection) if anybody wants to take a look, mine it for ideas, or tell me what I'm doing wrong that's making my damage suck: https://pobb.in/WD2M_lgvhihl Happy holidays y'all! --- *edit* Family members aren't getting here until tonight, so one extra day of PoE before holiday time! Good news: I made some changes (finished leveling gems, dropped Increased Crit Strikes for a real support gem, put Feeding Frenzy on my support minions, gained some levels for more ES > more base damage) that improved my DPS. New PoB (note that, although PoB added transfigured gems, AW of Self Reflection still doesn't work with Energy Blade, so the config nonsense is still in there). Bad news: One of the custom config things I added before (+2% base crit for Energy Blade having 7% base) shouldn't have been there (PoB was correctly using 7% to start with, but I didn't realize it). So my Shaper DPS is now about 2.4 mil, and before it was even worse than the 2.1 mil I quoted.. (Side note: A revelation that's no doubt obvious to anyone who's done the math, but was novel to me, is that the Increased Crit Strikes gem tends to suck because your crit chance, taken as a whole, is a single multiplier like any other, and adding to it when it's already high is bad for the same reason that adding more % increased damage when you already have a bunch is bad. If you have 500% crit multi, going from 0% > 10% crit chance is 40% more damage, but going from 50% to 60% is only 13.3% more damage. So the gem is only good if your crit chance is low, your multi is absurdly high, or your build needs to crit consistently for other reasons.) Even my pie-in-the-sky version with Grand Spectrums tops out at like 4.3 mil. If were to swap to a 2-handed version (naively treating it as 70% more damage, ignoring the fact that I lose damage from losing ES when I drop the shield, and the fact that block is a lot of my defense), it would still only be 7.3 mil. That is...deeply unimpressive. Is this concept just dead on arrival? Surely there is some way to make use of minions that get literally thousands of base lightning damage. Steelmage played a BA/MA build last league that hit DoT cap, based entirely on the fact that BA/MA clones use your weapon, and a stacked ele bow does less damage than my Energy Blade. Is it working out for whoever else in the guild was gonna try it? Do I just suck at making builds? At least it's reasonably fun to map with, now that I've stopped kneecapping myself with Harvest and Essence.

Interesting, to me it doesn't look clunky at all, especially not compared to PoE, which I love but is surely clunky in some ways. Sure, PoE looks slower here but also more impactful and you shouldn't forget the footage is from the acts, not late game.

Is it working out for whoever else in the guild was gonna try it? Do I just suck at making builds? Haven't had a lot of time to take a look, but wondering if some of the scaling would be similar to Champion Lightning SRS, where you can use things like Perquil's Toe to make their damage lucky, Generosity on Vaal Smite+Wrath, maybe some of the new aurabot spectres? Bumbling along in SSF, gigantic damage/QoL upgrade once I farmed up the div cards for a Sire of Shards, switched to the Warlock blood magic stuff (and had Torchoak Step/Crown of Thorns drop), jumping right from T10s to T16s. Really need to upgrade my gear thought figuring out if Crimson Power / ES stuff will be gain prior to very high ES chest/gloves, and I'm still an awkard hybrid of ignite and hit-based. Flamewood is hiliariously useless at Legions, though - you pop the monolith and hope you haven't cleared out nearby monsters to proc Avenging Flame otherwise nothing happens.

Thanks for the ideas! Making my minion damage lucky would be massive, but Perquil's Toe would require giving up the equally massive bonuses I'm getting from Ashes (quality scaling on both Energy Blade and AW of Self Reflection is extremely good; Ashes is currently getting me my 7th minion, plus reducing Energy Blade's ES penalty from 41% less to 33% less, which is also damage for me). It looks like doing a straight swap from Ashes to Perquil's would be about a 6% DPS increase at the cost of a 12% decrease in my ES total. That might be worth it, since I'm feeling tanky but having damage problems, but it's pretty marginal either way. If I could get lucky damage any other way, it would be a perfect upgrade for me, but I don't think anything exists. My kingdom for an AG who can equip amulets! Right now I'm using the Guardian ascendancy node that gives the ele damage auras, including Wrath, for "free," so I can't Generosity them, and then putting defensive auras on myself/my Spectres (I'm using the three Purity ones). I wouldn't necessarily mind dropping one or more of the defensive auras for more damage, but I don't know what else to use. Wish Zealotry wasn't only for spells. Haste, maybe? Vaal Smite is definitely worth looking into. I'm a little tight on gem slots, but I can at least drop the Empower from my Energy Blade setup (levels only scale the flat damage, which is very small compared to the portion that comes from my ES). The downside of both Smite and Wrath is that flat damage is the one thing I'm not short on, so it's not going to be as big an upgrade as stats I have less of.

Oh shit there's a spectre with nearby allies have lucky lightning damage. It seems to be an immobile totem, so I gotta work a frequently triggering convocation into my build, but it seems like it might make the difference if it's not too annoying to play. I'll drop my Purity of Lightning spectre for it. Please be tolerable to play, pls pls pls...

Here's what I've ended up with: https://pobb.in/TTmh9f6Wa2XE I'm using Perfect Spirit of Fortune (Wrath/lucky), Perfect Guardian Turtle (Determination), and Perfect Fiery Cannibal (Purity of Fire) as spectres. It's...okay. Shaper DPS with my current setup is around 5 mil with Melee Splash, or 6.7 mil with Ruthless (more with Awakened Multistrike, but I don't have the cash for that yet). It does juiced t16s at adequate but unimpressive speed without dying very much. It does pretty well against bosses, except the ones that obliterate spectres/AGs (which is an unfortunately large proportion of the serious endgame bosses). Some things about it are annoying:
Overall I'm still pretty happy with it, though. I think I've pushed Animate Energy Blade about as far as it'll go without starting to drop piles of div on things like Awakened Multistrike, minion crit multi Grand Spectrums, or Sanctuary of Thought forbidden jewels.
