I will likely play a cold dot (maybe slinger) as a league starter or fire dot stacker. I will stick to SC. Not going to play a league with tons of new boss fights and a "caught in a tiny area"-mechanic on HC, sorry. Even though I agree with evo, SC economy sucks.

CoC Battlemage sounds fun. I think with the changes to Inquisitor they finally made hybrid builds fun to experiment with. I played around with some ideas that could scale well together. On a very basic level, mind you, but I think there are some interesting combos that could work. For example Molten Strike with Magma Orb or Cremation. I have no idea how the new Battlemage tag uniques look like but if they are any good you could also go Deadeye for projectiles and chain shenanigans or Raider for onslaught. Probably just memes but still might be something I will try as well.

Yeah that was stupid. Why would they tease 2 skill gems that got by far the biggest changes? If you want to tease, do it with something more representetive. In this case show scorching ray and an aura or so...

they probably just shouldn't have hyped skill gem changes at all. every patch always has some buffs and nerfs, and this is pretty much in line with those. if they just focused on the revamped ascendencies and the big atlas stuff, no one would be annoyed.
overall though, I don't really care. It's not like a little misrepresentation is a destruction of the league's possibilities

I'm not sure that's true. I'm fairly sure people are sending out death threats over the ascendancy changes...

has anyone ever used Great Old One's Tentacles? link
I can't tell if this is useful as a stopgap before explody chest
|
I didn't try it so I can't help you with that, but depending on how rare Harvest is going to be, that one could make explosion chests a bit more reachable. IIRC you could just add phys until the rare has all the phys prefixes (3 possible prefixes, so you ideally have only phys reflect as prefix) including the explosion, which in turn means that the chest is quite bad otherwise but you can try removing some other prefix and adding a life mod for example. But I have a feeling Harvest crafting will be super disappointing (mostly due to rarity).

Still need to get my head around the new map tiers and how that interacts with Atlas passive trees - Residence being base T14 means The Dapper Prodigy isn't really feasible to farm in SSF, though Pen/Jungle Valley being T1 means The Chains That Bind / The Flora's Gift might be decent stopgaps. Exciting to have a whole bunch of news maps, though - keen to see what div cards they drop / what all the new div cards are.
Stoked about these changes/QoL things:
* Maps dropped by special sources such as deterministic chests or league rewards like those found in the Azurite Mine or the Temple of Atzoatl now use your own Atlas to determine which maps to drop, and can therefore drop maps that have been raised above their base tier due to the presence of Watchstones. Maps dropped from these sources now also take into account your Favourite Map selections. If a source such as this cannot find a compatible map from your Atlas to drop (for example, due to too few maps being completed and too few watchstones being socketed for a Tier 16 map on your Atlas to drop), it will drop a random map of the correct tier instead.
* Conqueror-Influenced maps may now experience an invasion by Sirus himself.
* Zana can now offer missions involving Metamorph, Delirium, Blight and Harvest mechanics.
* Opening the portals to the Temple of Atzoatl or to a Syndicate Safehouse in your hideout after you've acquried a Map Device now creates those portals at your Map Device.
Has anyone had much experience with Wintertide Brand? Ran a Vortex/Cold Snap Raider in late Harvest and sole character in Heist; wondering if I should give Wintertide Brand a spin with all the free cast speed from the Onslaught effect. It does seem like you spread yourself even thinner over the tree, though, assuming Runebinder is essential, and it seems like it could be a lot clunkier than the fairly effortless Vortex/Cold Snap playstyle.

I believe Waggle was first to HC Harvest - Heart of the Grove kill with Wintertide Brand? So it's definitely a viable skill I don't think it fits with massive cast speed though. it already gains stages fairly quickly
I tested the great old one's tentacles, seems pretty bad. I guess the radius is quite small or something

I guess the radius is quite small or something Well you need a very decent amount of cast speed / inc duration to reach max stages on Wintertide Brand, else it goes off without reaching max stages and does less damage as far as I understand it. Can't tell how good the skill feels though since I haven't tried it yet.

waggle built that character solely with the fight itself in mind. he wanted something that could do steady dps while he focuses on dodging/offscreening with wicked ward regen.
it's just that he didn't expect to do 100 red maps after respec lol.

So... I'm gonna try selfcast discharge elementalist. Because i like Discharge and it sounds just clunky enough to hate myself fast .
https://pastebin.com/zeQuBNCq
Threw this together (tree, gems, some core items). Fist goal would be to farm a Volls devotion to get rid of Redblade Banner, after that a Farruls Furr and then it would probably be time for Jewels/Restructuring the Tree.
If anyone has some input, very welcome .

I played Discharge Ignite Chieftain last league and it was really good. Should be a good build for the boss arena too, great fire-and-forget on big aoe while you run around and dodge and build charges again. Used Armageddon Brand to help with clear because constantly building max charges can be a bit clunky, so just keep that aspect in mind if you find the playstyle annoying between big packs. Even if you don't go brand-heavy nodes it's probably still fine to supplement clear on random trash that's not dense enough to actually press Discharge for.
That all being said, I didn't use Redblade Banner since I was chieftain so I just abused Enduring Cry's natural generation + the Chieftain charge gen over time. Since Elementalist would basically force you to use Redblade, maybe maxing charges doesn't feel as bad.

outside of self poison gimmick i think stacking chains with cobra lash is probably the best scaling t18 100% delirium farmer out there. haven't played an attack build since domination though so idk if i should start again.
or maybe int stacking wander?
|
what kind of ascendency / style of cobra lash would you go? you'd have to go hit based, not poison, to take advantage of the 5% per chain, right
I'm torn between Armageddon Brand elementalist, TR Pathfinder, and Bladestorm Slayer... elementalist seems easiest to start, but I'm a bit worried about the later scaling. I want to play slayer but melee start is a bit oof

I want to play slayer but melee start is a bit oof True that, I'm seeing that as well with PoB. You can get 500k dps fairly easily, but getting more than 1m dps seems pretty rough if you wanna build decently tanky as well. And yes, the same goes for Divine Ire and some others. I think the best ignite build offensively might be Penance Brand Elementalist with EE and Archmage support. In general going Archmage seems to be key if you wanna reach high ignite dps. Also don't be fooled by total damage per ignite, having that one high is nice for bosses but you want the ignite dps to be decent as well.
But I mean it depends on what you see as decently tanky nowadays, imo the days of just having 160% life and nothing else are long gone. I'd say 160% life would be decent with nearly max block for example. Also just having 200% life in the tree with no fortify, evasion, block or anything isn't great anymore either.

I want to play slayer but melee start is a bit oof the golden rule self poison stuff is so strong i think assassin would be the only choice here. raider looks nice too but it doesn't scale damage as much.
on the other hand if i do this build i'll probably have to obtain a shaper HH eventually which would be kind of oof. i think int stack wander is looking good.

Mors said it years ago at this point!

I want to play slayer but melee start is a bit oof TR is a decent choice, I did Scourge Arrow last league SC SSF and it was pretty smooth. In SSF it felt pretty easy to run out of ways to improve your damage in red maps, but in trade that should be np.
I kinda just want a build that's fun enough to keep me interested to see content.
Archmage Cremation scales nicely I'd presume?
Armageddon Brand or even Fireball Shennanigans sound kinda fun too. Hmm...
e: Wanders are still crap for levelling, right?
|
I settled on TR Pathfinder. seems like very solid starter that can actually scale all the way into endgame, esp if Harvest isn't hyper rare
re: wander - yeah, you would probably want to level as spell. then grab a piscator's or something for your switch
leveling as a wander would be like leveling as bow, if that gives you any context. Though maybe ele hit + trinity wouldn't be too bad

I think I've narrowed it down to either Cremation or Toxic Rain. Both are new for me, and seem good for the league mechanics. But need to choose ascendancies too.
Necro crem for archmage and better long-term scaling probably? Or chieftain for ez chonk, and bladefall/bladeblast as a backup if I don't like it for whatever reason. In fact I don't really know the detailed pros and cons of necro vs chieftain for something like cremation, because I think you can make necro pretty damn tanky these days too, I just don't have much necro experience myself. It's basically necro stuff + archmage, vs all the fire damage built into Chieftain I guess. But the benefit of being able to switch into BF/BB as chieftain if I don't like cremation for whatever reason is a nice little bonus. Hmm.
With Toxic Rain, Pathfinder for generically good standard bow / toxic rain stuff and sick sustain for long boss arena things. Or Champion for these new ballista shenanigans people are talking about and never getting touched. Perma fort + ballistae taunting stuff + wind dancer + acro/phaseacro + etc. Just seems crazy defensive. But I don't know nearly enough about bows or ballistae to know how well it'll scale into super late game.
|
Oh snap, I just realized Cremation looks like it does, confused it with Volatile Dead. I think that build is getting shelved.
Toxic Rain is prolly what I'll do if I don't find anything neater, just because I've done it before. But I've also done it before and it'd be another green league for me. Hmmm...
"Coldslinger -> Vortex Cold Snap" sounds juicy even though been there done that. Is Occultist still the go to there?
What is Armageddon Brand like for bossing?
