Tanky support builds don't really work at the moment, and to be fair, I'm not sure they ever will. This is not an MMO, everyone has to be able to take a hit, and there are no healers. That said, the tankiest builds at OB will certainly be marauders/templars with high life and shield. But the utility of such a build is severely limited unless you know exactly what you are doing. Support skills are limited mostly to auras and curses, but it is not a very satisfying way to play. One of the best support class, however, is a wand/shield Templar with Conduit and Power Siphon. Conduit allows you to share your charges with nearby allies, and Power Siphon grants power charges (that grant increased crit chance). Throw in some Enduring cry, and you'll be sharing both power and endurance charges, while still doing good damage, mostly using the weapon elemental damage nodes from the Templar area. You can even grant some chance to shock to increase the damage monsters take. Pretty powerful build overall, and it uses elemental damage wands, which not many people use. But don't be afraid to screw up your first character(s). We all did =) ah sweet thx so much. I realize its not a mmo. I just want a good build to help buddies in hardcore, clearing maps and bosses and of course who wouldnt want to be doing runs with someone whose going to make them stronger I'd figure it would be a good build to start off with as a first char but chances are I will probably die anyway and have to remake him but thats okay because I'm probably going to fuck up the build around level 40 and realize it around 60 and have to remake him anyway. ittsss aaaallll goooooooood Edit: hmm on second thought maybe I should try to do this as a witch. Edit2:or.. or a templar I think you get 12 skill refund points, so unless you massively screw up a build, it's possible to fix it or at least make it better by using those skill refund points 12 is 3 times 4 which is Act 1 and 2, so Act 3 might give you 6 more (2 for each difficulty). And on top of that there are drops of Orb of Regret doing the same thing. That and the possibility to trade in Orbs of Scouring to Orb of Regret is making respeccing possible over time, though it is gonna take some time.

One week of no lifing to commence in one minute :0

I decided not to do the race and instead play sc2 and wait till open :p. Reading how people were going to commit over 100+ hours in the race made me decide not to bother.

It's really easy to say that before you die. Shouldn't get discouraged by people setting their goals too high for themselves.

I believe they will remove cruel after act 3 comes out so there will only be 3 difficulty modes.

It will be Normal, Cruel, Merciless. Cruel will be -7.5% exp and Merciless will be -15% exp on death.

Hi guys,
Ive had my closed beta invitation for quite a long time now. I only picked up the game a few weeks ago, but im already fallen in love with it big time. I have a couple of newbie questions, which i couldnt get a proper answer on global chat:
- After the upcoming wipe, ive been considering on rolling a ranger. Is there any downside on this, ie. is ranger currently considered to be in balance?
- Which build(s) would you recommend for a bow wielding ranger? Or would you rather say that melee ranger is the way to go? If possible, i would like to stick to bows for that lovely range. I tried to get an answer for this several times, but couldnt really get any reasonable.
Thanks!

the reason you were unable to obtain answer for that questions is, that there aren't any real cookie cutter no brain afk builds. i'd recommend opening the passive tree calculator once OB is up and start to figuring out a build you would like to use. You should start by spells you want to use and pick passives accordingly.
2 small advices anyway : dont pick to much damage passives meele is way harder 2 play

Melee is easier at start but they get more gear dependant than ranged classes. We dont know the next patch notes so noone knows which builds are gonna be best. My advice is after the wipe play a gear independant build and lvl him asap then use that char to farm gear for your other char. You can play anything after that.

Check this out, i like it a lot and have played it up to level 51 just to test the leveling phase. It went rather well, it's fun. The build is dependent on a few things like getting life leech support gem and such but i think it can work well as a starter build for OB and isn't too hard to play.

Thanks for your tips. This is exactly what i was looking for - I know that there are not cookiecutters (nor would i want or need one), but just the basic tips on which skills or how to prioritize stats.

Very much appreciated. Need to dig deeper into that build, and see how it works out!

If I end up dying I'm just gonna quit ^_^ Unless most of the leaderboard dies though I've got no shot so I might just give up before I die.

The build is dependent on a few things like getting life leech support gem and such but i think it can work well as a starter build for OB and isn't too hard to play. Very much appreciated. Need to dig deeper into that build, and see how it works out! Be aware that bow rangers have an advantage in offensive and a weakness in defence skills in general and particularly rangers lack life quite a lot to start with in the games current state. I think life is alpha and omega at least in the first difficulty. Also: Keep resistance passives as a priority Evation is a very dangerous skill to rely on. Whether it is too strong or weak is a question of preference and situation, but when choosing build you need to look at how you do compared to level and you have to know that it is extremely weak against Vaal. You generally want to stay above 50% evasion if that is your tertiary defence, but too much means sacrificing offensive skills and since that is your bread and butter, it is more problematic. You will need to focus on elemental damage, physical damage, attack speed, traps, mines, totems, critical damage, accuracy etc. for your offensive capability, but to start I would suggest physical damage and critical strikes as the best option since it is less gear- and skillgem- dependent than elemental, accuracy and attack speed that admittedly can be better. Traps are mostly support, while mines are awkward, not necessarily bad, just... Awkward! Be aware that even generic +10 to strenght is +5 life and +2% physical melee damage which is not that bad even if you only get the life (an extra level will give you +6 life!). +10 dexterity passives will give you +20 accuracy and +2% evasion, which is ok for pve bow-users. The rest is elimination: In my experience block and stun are not what you want to focus on in any build for pve both defensively (life is almost always a lot better) or offensively (freeze and knockback are so much more valuable). Item quantity and rarity are decent, but in no way necessary as passives (read: A waste for more serious builds). As a ranger spells are not generally your primary damage, so no need to boost spell damage in any way (learn to manage your mana! It is often important to stay cheap there to get more important passives). Remember that a bow do not benifit from any melee damage, which makes a lot of passives worthless. With those in mind you can at least eliminate a good deal of less important passives while slavishly going for life passives and life mods on gear.
I like Petrovs build a lot. The general type of "life stacking at any cost" builds have more or less been a stable of bow rangers throughout the beta even though the passive was a completely different animal in them olden days. Be aware that he has "iron reflexes" which changes his evasion to armour and "iron grip" which makes strenght worth something offensively in addition to providing your precious extra life. He has also chosen elemental damage, which is fine.

still haven't played yet. can't choose between templar and duelist. what are templars and duelists good at?
|
i am playing a witch and using these skills: main damage: freezing pulse/lesser multiple projectiles/added critical damage curse:frostbite clarity for mana regen phase run and lightning warp for mobility
i leveled up to 40 but i think i made a mistake, i can kill minions really fast but i took both shield and hp passives from the skill tree so i ended up with ~600hp/600shield and very low mana(clarity is eating up a lot of my mana but it is fine). so i cant use IC or blood magic. i know these characters will be deleted in a week but is this build viable?
|
Templars are good at anything with a shield, wand/bow elemental builds, totem builds, most spell builds. Duelists are good at Dual Axes/Swords and winning 2-3h races.

Aah so well done, how nice. Best trailer yet imo. Really gives what the games about but without the leagues and races which are pretty big factor
|
Wow, that trailer is fucking amazing. I hope it brings the hype train and more people in.
