Im even gimping myself and running with 25% quant gear. All other pieces cost 2+ex themselves. I hate this league. + Show Spoiler + You probably know this and use quant gear for just more currency/high tier items, but just to be sure: quantity on gear does not imcrease map drop rate. Hm i didnt know. I thought only party bonus iiq doesnt affect map drops but youre right. Im doing delve, but it takes a while to reach 200 depth and then find cities and for that you need to do maps first to get the sulphite :/ Scarabs are also super expensive now unfortunately.

Mapping feels really bad this time around , I am not able to make progress without buying maps non stop , last league I was just fine pushing into red maps alone , this league I am unable to do so , feels weird to be buying maps all the time. Also the new mechanic feels cumbersome , I will probably skip it all together , the causal player wants easier time accessing all the content , why does GGG makes it even harder to play its content is beyond me , I am already only able to play 2 chars to 92~ during an entire league in which one of them is the starter and the other one takes all the currency and trying to push into elder/Uber Elder. This is a league everything gets reset , I think they should make it "easier" to obtain "stuff" in the game , I know some of the hardcore grinders won't like It , its up to GGG to balance hardcore vs casuals in a loot based game. If I want to delve this evening I cannot unless I get lucky in the maps, if I want to map this evening I can but with alt tabbing to buy maps all the time. Welp game is still fun for me as every league I play 2 new builds , so at least I have that.

Chris Wilson: I'm not in New Zealand currently to talk directly to the team in person, but there is a discussion about this going on and I wouldn't be surprised to see a tweak to map drops in the immediate future.
One ongoing issue that we will need to solve is that each league has varying mechanics that drop maps, and combined with the (often changing over time) base map drop rate, can occasionally cause leagues where they're slightly too common or slightly too rare. Both outcomes are bad for player experience because map drops are quite a sensitive equilibrium. While our pre-launch simulations can take into account the base map drop rate, we certainly need to put some work into more accurately factoring in the league-specific sources of maps so that there isn't a noticeable difference in the difficulty of sustaining maps from one league to the next.
Chris Wilson: We do [try to rebalance the base drops each league based on how many maps you expect players to get from the league content], and sometimes we get it wrong. I hope the "it's all in your imagination, map drops are totally static!" brigade are satisfied.

Yeah with all the discussion and debate about Synthesis as a league mechanic and its purpose and how it compares to older leagues and all that, the one thing I can definitely agree with right now is that the state of map drops is fucking BRUTAL lol. I don't mind having a wealth of content to do if you enjoy it or like mixing it up from time to time, but if you want to focus on mapping (whether that be completing your atlas, working toward shaper/elder stuff, or just sustaining) it's damn near IMPOSSIBLE to do through mapping alone. I also don't think they did that on purpose "to promote doing the other stuff we made", I think it was probably a byproduct of map drops from Delve/Temples being TOO good and abusable. Delving would still be very worth it even if it dropped ZERO maps lol. Hope they consider that in the future.
Edit: ninja'd by actual Chris quotes, good to hear lol

I interpret that as him admitting that it generally happens, not that it happened in this specific case.
One one hand a LOT of people are complaining about maps, on the other hand some SSF players like Aila are/were doing just fine so it seems like some bug to me and not an intentional choice.

maybe it is a seeding-RNG thing like it was in the first delve iteration.
|
"Adjusting map drops for league content" seems weird in the case of Synthesis since memories drop so few maps though.
|
yeah, and Betrayal shouldn't have had an effect on it either, so I don't see why they even had to touch the numbers.
Explains why my maps felt so garbage tho, ran into a wall getting t4 maps and combined with the meh league mechanics I simply quit for the league. Might come back to get some challenges done if they boost map drop rate.

The memory fragments provide a lot of additional density to a map and maybe they thought people would run nexus more and get drops a lot there. Thing is i cant run nexus cause i lack the nodes and i cant get the nodes cause i got no maps to run :/ Betrayal had comparatively few additional mobs, intervention had only the big guys, small fort only 2-3 members. Only big fort and research had a lot of density.

so betrayal had:
map drops straight from the executing dudes drop a map option that could drop reds in whites in the 1st week(month?) cheap abundant OP scarabs and pure breachstones spam that crashed map market as hard as it was possible, there was a time in the first month of BHC that you could buy guardian maps for 8c
no wonder ppl whined about map drops, betrayal was too easy of a league on that front
I wonder how much GGG caved in and actually buffed maps now I'd rather they make nexus attractive and profitable BEFORE touching atlas rates but alas

Its a game for fun in a mode that get a hard reset every 3 months , there is no real reason to make it difficult to a point where i MUST run nexus in order to play a different aspect of the game i.e maps/delve

I am not opposed to any of that, but you have to understand that when you can sustain t16 w/ just alch and go and budget builds can phase shaper in 4 seconds there is nothing in the game to do for dedicated players, except push delve.

Bug with getting better maps was fixed within 2 weeks. Most player base didn't abuse it that much because not everyone is speedrunning the game.
Scarabs were RNG, I maybe got 2 that increased map drops.
Cost of maps after 1+ month means little, most players already quit the league by then. Also not everyone buys maps to run them. I managed to get to guardians with very little map buying. I used Delve and Incursion to get more red maps and eventually get to guardians. Betrayal mechanics gave me least maps.

unnecessary dex node below Fangs of the Viper inefficient small node right of Resourcefulness 2 small nodes in the Written in Blood wheel are inefficient and not needed for pathing can save 1 or 2 points pathing left to Arcane Guarding from below the witch power charge instead of going up and left if you are gonna get small es nodes in the Foresight wheel you should path down to the 16% spell damage node small es node above Arcane Focus is efficient (8% instead of 6%)

day 10 of BHC guardian maps were 12c twelve chaos!!!! when zana elder mod was 16 chaos
I got to guardians no map trading in both Delve and Betrayal completely skipping league mechanics (such is live as pussy on HC). I am not buying maps, I am selling them, and Synthesis before buff was IMO superfine, but reddit had to ruin everything as always.
