Well that was completely unexpected...
+ Show Spoiler +Ok, so against e4 e5, I usually opt to go for the Ruy Lopez(whenever I play e4 now that is).
So I vote Nf3. Reason for this move is stated above. I am hoping to see Nc6 as the response so we can go Ruy Lopez main line.

Nf3
+ Show Spoiler + pressures the opponent's pawn and gets stuff out of the back row, as well as being the completely standard response so more people will know how to follow this up
|
Nf3 ! ps : I'd say you can skip the whole spoilers thing for the first and second moves... I think (hope) that the people voting know the theory for e4 and Nf3
|
Nf3
All my reasons have been listed before.

2. Nf3
+ Show Spoiler +Standard play here for good reason. Controls e5 and d4. Brings the knight out before the bishops, as the bishops can move to control the center more quickly. Makes way for the castle. All this with tempo, as black now has to deal with the threat of 3. Nxe5.

1 e4 e5 should go into 2. f4
+ Show Spoiler [The King's Gambit] +The King's Gambit is baller as dicks and we should go with it. Although 2. Nf3 is the highest-rated response in terms of victory. 2.f4 is the highest-rated response in terms of balling and being basically a baller. So I recommend we ball all day erry day and go for the King's Gambit like the ballers we are.

Gonna follow this even though I'm horrible at chess

2. f4
+ Show Spoiler +I have a soft spot for the King's Gambit and I enjoy all the dangerous positions that emerge from it. That would sure as hell be a very fun game to play with so many people participating

2. f4 Yes, this is known as the King's Gambit. Yes, it has a controversial history (although it has been successfully used at the highest levels of play for centuries and never been refuted). I'm not going to go into things like that in my rationale, though. Rather, I'm going to give the reasons why I like this as a move, on its own merits, as opposed to Nf3. + Show Spoiler [rationale] +Why not to play Nf3 right away: Nf3 is a strong move but it has one drawback: it blocks the playing of f4. Now, f4 is quite a strong move for us in general, as I will try to show, although not without its drawbacks, so it would be nice not to rule out playing it from the beginning. At the same time, we'd like to develop our King's Knight soon, so the sooner we get f4 out of the way, the sooner we have the ability to continue our development with Nf3. Now I'll try to briefly make the case for two things: a) that f4 is a strong move that we'd like to play if possible and b) that Black's taking the pawn will overall be good for us, not bad.
Why we'd like to play f4 if possible: Quite simply, it strengthens our control over the center of the board: if he declines the gambit, and certainly if he accepts it. Furthermore, it opens the f-file for our Rook.
What happens if he takes the pawn? He will be up a pawn. We will have a free hand in the center. He will have short-term pressure against our Kingside, but he has no pieces developed yet, and whatever he does we have sufficient time to defend.
His pressure against our King is a short-term advantage. On the other hand, our advantage in the center ought to last us all game long. His pawn may be a long-term advantage, but a) it will not be easy for him to defend an advanced pawn on one side of the board with us controlling the center unless he commits a lot to that defence. b) His extra pawn will not become a decisive advantage for him until the endgame. By contrast, our central advantage will aid us all game long. + Show Spoiler [rebuttal of one point] +The tempo argument holds no water, as Black can deal with the threat of Nxe5 without losing tempo. The most common way for him to do this is Nc6, although there are other moves which accomplish the same thing, but one thing is certain: Black will not lose tempo in dealing with Nf3.

2. f4 + Show Spoiler +I've always liked the King's Gambit; I'm aware that it's fallen out of favor in elite play, but I've always enjoyed games that start from it.

Sorry if its Too LATE 1. f4 2. PF3
|
2. Nf3
+ Show Spoiler +Probably the best, most standard move right now. I don't usually open with e4 as white, I never tried king's gambit before. I'll get stucked if black choose to decline the gambit, and seems to makes unsafe in the mid game.

Ooooh, it's not too late to join is it? I'm with the Nf3 crowd

Let's make this game interesting gentlemen. I don't want to spend a month going through a Ruy Lopez line...
2. f4
I like blazinghand's rationale, being baller as dick and what not.

2. f4
+ Show Spoiler +2. Nf3 is indeed the highest-rated response, but true ballers go into a battle guns blazing with their penis and also nuts (a.k.a. Junk) on full display, and 2. f4 accomplishes that like a BAWZ.
