Or try to get an alliance with either Bohemia or Austria (Ideally whoever is HRE, but any of the two should do), and pincer them to death. Try to fight defensively on your territory if they attack you, or besiege their stuff if they attack your ally. That's the problem. All the territory that I would have to use in Scorched Earth are my richest provinces, including my Capital. I got a small window right now where I got a higher Fort Level on my entire border than them, so I'm considering abusing that.

However, depending on your relative strength that might not even be needed, i can't really judge that from the picture since i have never played russia, or anyone expanding into russia. Defending in your own territory + russian winter on its own is pretty good at killing armies if you choose your fights wisely.

Just pick a country that looks fun (your own in RL maybe) and screw around until something kills you. Then come into this thread ask WTF and we'll help you.

However, i would strongly advice against playing the nation you are from unless you are from Spain, England, France or maybe Austria. If not, choose one of those countries first. They are pretty strong and far more forgiving to a newer player. If you are from, say, Moldavia, safe that one for after you know how the game works, because otherwise you will get a very depressing impression of hordes of horsemen riding in, killing all your men, raping your women, burning the fields an houses and selling any survivors to slavery before you are greeted by the Game Over Screen. Also, you won't really learn anything.

I took "National Bank" as my first Idea. About 1 year later i had this neat event: "Your national Bank is doing shitty.. blablah)." A: Pay 200 Ducats (yeah right, i have 15 atm). B: Gain 5 (or 3?) Inflation (yeah right, because thats why i took the national bank idea...). Taking some Loans was also no solutions because a loan only gave me 30 ducats... The general rule of thumb I go by is: England - Learning naval shit Portugal - Learning colonization France - Learning ground combat / vassalation Castille - General everything Austria - HRE Holland - Trading You should add: Holland - Learn to hate Burgundy. Irish-Minor (and Scotland) - Learn to hate England. Navarra - Learn to die really fast.

Now I hated Burgundy because I was stupid, but it's VERY easy to just pay them off constantly and make them fight your wars for you. Scotland is ez to beat England, since if they declare on you, you get a like 15 man stack for free instantly along with your main army. Irish Minors are also ez, a bit of luck but ez.

You build up a mercenary instantly, and wait. England is almost guaranteed to declare on one of the other minors, you figure out who (pay attention to the text thing on the bottom right) and then declare on them as well -- take the stab hit, and then get there first. They will just have 1 guy, you'll have 2. Take them out, annex them, and then when you get your stab back, take another stab hit and take the final minor. You'll have all 3 provinces, remove your mercenary and start trading to build up dosh and befriend England. When you become a decent trading power, wait for England to be caught up in a war and declare on them -- take a stab hit if you must. You're so small you get it back in like 2 months anyways. You rest a bunch of cavalry and an infantry or two on the final English province and wait. You need to catch their infantry coming to clean you up before it lands for a bonus. This is the luck part, but once you take that province, it's all about just stopping them from sieging it back, waiting it out and getting it on a peace deal in ~6-8 years after waiting. Formed Ireland and colonized the entire new world like twice so far. ![]()

I have a save here, and have been able to successfully destroy Scotland's army several times. However, no matter how vigilant i am, i can't help getting invaded. Since Scotland is allied with everyone in France and Denmark, pretty much all of Europe decides to attack me. And for some reason, a single galley getting mobbed by 20+ ships is still able to land a regiment in my territory. Does anyone have any advice on how to deal with this?
