If you're going to play on pad, I suggest a controller with 6 face buttons and using "the claw" (right hand palm down, hitting buttons like a keyboard/arcade stick). But whatever works for you, works for you.

so, after a short affair with Cody, I switched mains again, but instead of going back to the manly Guile, I picked up TL's most lovable character Sakura, I suck hardcore with her, cant even reach 2k PP but it's fun! should be going better once I start to understand some matchups

Note to self: don't go straight to ranked after two weeks of not playing this game. Skills deteriorate so fast in fighting games.

I disagree, skills deteriorate a lot faster in RTS games from what I've played. I started playing SC2 a year ago and haven't played fighting games since then, but just started again due to AE recently, and I'm back to my 2k PP self after like a week of playing. If I didn't play SC2 for just a month it would take me much more effort to get back to my usual form.

I guess that means you're better than me, I drop links all over the place after a break. Also forget the properties of the moves of some of the more obscure characters.. what's punishable, how to block etc.

hey guys, I've got a really newbie question (actually a couple). I've been following this thread on and off for a while, and am rather interested in trying to get into fighting games based off of some of the things i've seen. before I do though, I'd like to know:

1. Is an arcade controller a necessary purchase to fully enjoy the game?

2. Is the game accessible enough for a person completely new to fighting games (I've played flash games on the internet, and i even suck at those)?

3. Are there any resources i could look for to help me figure out what the fuck I'm doing?

I'd really appreciate any feedback you guys could give. Thanks in advance!

1. No
2. Yes, but it does take practice. You won't learn even the most basic BnB shit right off the bat easily.
3. Shoryuken is pretty nice.

Thank you x100. This will be an interesting adventure...

just to quickly add onto this, I'd like to highly recommend that you at least get a fightpad if you're playing on the xbox360. standard xbox controller is dick for fighting games.

Perfect Legend, Fanatiq, Vangief, Inthul, and WolfKrone would like to have a word with you about that....

PS3 sticks are proprietary and can't just be plugged in your PC's USB port.

Uhh what? I'm using a Hori Real Arcade Pro 3 (PS3) on my PC at home have I have ZERO problems with it.
I use it for everything it works perfectly fine. (AE, Vanilla, GGPO, zsnes, etc)

I can verify this. I used PS3 sixaxis analogue controller and countless hori/madcatz stick on my pc. The sixaxis you might need a driver.

Hello TL, i am looking to get a new fighting stick for the PC after my old cheap one broke. And im pretty tight on cash, but currently im looking at these 2 options:

hori ex2(http://www.amazon.com/Xbox360-Fighting-Stick-EX-Xbox-360/dp/B000V02P6Q)

madcatz wii stick with pc converter(http://www.amazon.com/Wii-Tatsunoko-Capcom-Arcade-FightStick-Nintendo/dp/B0032ISZL8/ref=sr_1_23?ie=UTF8&qid=1312088036&sr=8-23)

From what I can tell, its so cheap because it is for the wii and not because of cheap parts. It seems exactly the same as the madcats sf4 stick which cost over $100, but I cant be sure.

I really don't care about the extra buttons, but the second option does come out cheaper and I would be able to use it on Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, as well as the converter for my classic controller to PC. I'm just not sure if any imput lag or some other random factors come from using the converter.

help would be appreciated, although i kinda doubt anybody that reads this would have experience with using the converter lol.

edit: and other suggestions for sticks would be welcome

It seems like with the Wii one, you need to connect it to a Wii controller, which then takes care of interaction with the console. There's a good chance that you can't connect the Wii stick to the PC directly through the converter. Best look into that before you buy it.

The Hori EX2 seems like a good option, but I'd say just save up for a bit longer and get a better quality stick. The cheaper buttons are really stiff...I don't like them.

I'm using the Tatsunoko v Capcom stick myself on my PC and it works like a charm. Personally I had no noticable delay, I sat down trying it out in the Training mode just tapping buttons, but as far as I can tell it's pretty much instant. To connect it to my PC I'm using the Mayflash Wii Classic Controller to USB Adapter.

And as far as I know you're right about the parts, some folks at http://shoryuken.com/ confirmed that it's even a little better than the SF4 sticks for Xbox and PS3 (not the Tournament edition of course)

Hori EX2's buttons suck ass. My LK button died after like a month.

If you replace the buttons with Sanwa/whatever quality buttons you like then they're not bad.

I realize you said your tight on cash, but if your gonna drop $100 you mind as well add another $50 and go with a Madcatz TE stick. It really is worth it. the hardware is so nice and its so easily mod-able that you will never need to replace it again. You can just swap out any parts that go bad.

Just my two cents. The TE's are pure luxury.
