1. Is an arcade controller a necessary purchase to fully enjoy the game? 2. Is the game accessible enough for a person completely new to fighting games (I've played flash games on the internet, and i even suck at those)? 3. Are there any resources i could look for to help me figure out what the fuck I'm doing? I'd really appreciate any feedback you guys could give. Thanks in advance!

The fightpad is also a piece of trash, the d-pad isn't good at all. Just play with a standard pad, and once you get better and want to continue playing, you can choose whether to get an arcade stick or not. That's pretty much what every new player has done.

Perfect Legend, Fanatiq, Vangief, Inthul, and WolfKrone would like to have a word with you about that.... +1 I've met legit players that can even rock with a dreamcast pad... whatever is most comfortable will be the best for people. Most fighting game players learned stick because of arcades, not because sticks are better input methods. There are still players (people like John Choi and some old mvc2 players) that can't handle the TE's japanese stick and need the hard buttons, bat top, and circle gates of american arcades.

PS3 sticks are proprietary and can't just be plugged in your PC's USB port. arcade sticks are the mad coolest, but you certainly can execute well enough to be competitive on pad. i'm certainly more comfortable on stick.

Not that I'd recommend it because it's pretty evident that tournament pad players are very much a minority for a reason!
