Naw I immediately thought of Evil Ryu, then I noticed the one above it looked more like Ryu and the one below looked like Ken. I think it gets the point across pretty effectively.

After playing sakura for a session tonight, she's fun as hell but I have no idea how you'd approach some matchups. dat st.rh is still boss :>
clearly you are not a member of teamliquid unless you play sakura now

I have a feeling Poongko is gonna get blown up especially after watching casuals today, he beats gootecks but not really anyone else lol. Infiltration feels a lot more solid.

do you know when he arrived state side? I don't know if he always looks like that while playing SF4, but he looks pretty tired/jet lagged on stream

lol it's just casuals. he's pretty much turned it up a notch playing as Seth against everybody in that house right now.

So, I just started getting into this game's multiplayer as Guy, and I'm just awful. I'm so bad that I make nuns who watch me question the existence of God...
How can I improve my methods as Guy? What should I be training? Should I be running through arcade mode?
|
Guy is not an easy character to use. Since you seem to be a new player, you should try to master challenge mode and get all of his combo challenges completed.
|
Guy kind of confuses me in every game he's in. His approach to pressuring and attacking the opponent is different than most characters that nominally have the same objective, so you'll have to ask a Guy specialist or at least somebody less confused than me. He's kind of a solid mid-tier character, but it takes some work to get there.
His crossup j.mk is good combined with the wide jump arc, his weird elbow drop (down + mp in air) trajectory is good, and he can hit confirm cr.lp or cr.lk into his chain combos for decent damage. Command run followups can be good as well, and he's got an overhead on the ground. So he has all the tools to open people up, but nothing by itself is really that great. How you combine the tools into a gameplan is beyond me, as I alluded to earlier.
Definitely running through arcade mode is the wrong strategy, that's for sure.
So the first step is to learn the combos (hit confirms and pressure strings are most useful), learn to read the opponent, and learn not to be predictable.

poongko had to play til 8am KST and I assume he had no sleep at all due to his flight from korea. You could see that he was very tired on stream and I wouldnt judge his chances based on casuals yesterday

How can I improve my methods as Guy? What should I be training? Should I be running through arcade mode? I'm a PC only player and started out with Guy when I got AE on the 7th. He definitely requires some execution skills as some of his hitconfirms have tight timing. Before I got AE I watched tons of matches from Kiryu Tsukimiya and Nox on youtube, which helped me a lot in understanding how to use him. Check some of the well known uploaders on youtube (Yogaflame24, Ov3headgreg, 0ShinAkuma0 (currently inactive)) for their games.

Anyone watching the Cross Counter stream right now? Combofiend's putting on some really clutch Guy plays against Poongko's Seth right now, although I think Poongko's up a couple of sets.
