Also, I'm trying to plink but can never really tell if i'm doing it right or not.
example i'm trying to do the c.mp c.mp s.mp thangggg
should the input look like mp, then lpmp and lpmp with the mp's coming out. When I normally just plink without actually doing the link, it'll look like lp, lpmp. Is that correct as well? I guess I'm wondering if like...how can I tell if i'm actually plinking the keys and not just hitting both lp and mp at the exact same time in the inputs, is that when jab comes out instead of the mp?
You're plinking the wrong direction then. Hit the stronger button immediately before the weaker button. So in training mode, where the inputs are read in ascending order, it looks like:
LPMP MP
If jab comes out instead of MP then it means that you didn't plink it and there was too long of a gap between when you tapped MP and when you tapped LP. Either the MP should come out or nothing should.
My daily ranked match routine: - Join random custom match - Get newbie opponents - Farm PP - Reach 700-800 - Join random custom match - Get above average/good opponent - Get my ass handed to me - Keep joining the same host - Lose all previously farmed PP but get slightly better at the game
well this isnt sc2 system, where you will always gain a lot of points in the long-run due to bonus pool. system is quite brutal, and if u arent consistent in your performance or not good in general, you will never stabalize at a good rating.
Hey all. AE is my first fighting game ever, and I have a question that I haven't been able to find well answered via Google. I am noticing that certain moves seem to be able to interrupt other moves. For instance, I (playing Fei Long) can hit Ryu out of a hurricane kick with a standing fierce, but if I try the same against Blanka's ball moves I usually just trade or get hit.
Are interactions like this simply due to the timings and positionings of different hit-boxes, or is there some sort of move priority programmed in that determines which move wins? Is there a good way to predict what beats what, or is a lot of it just experience and intuition?
Priority is a myth in fighting games. It's a matter of hitboxes and timing. Some moves have some invulnerability, whether it's full invincibility until a certain frame, or upper body invincibility etc. Something like a DP will beat a blanka ball clean, but most normals will either get hit or trade.
Learning exactly how to punish other characters stuff with your moves and in what timings and situations they work is a part of learning fighting games. The more you start to understand, the more the whole game in general becomes easier to understand, and the faster you can predict how moves will work in other matchups and situations. It's similar to knowing how different unit compisitions in sc fare against each other.

the former

if you are familiar with fighting games, you will have a good idea about the design of certain moves (for example you know what the advantages/disadvantages of a shoryuken type move are ), and in that case you can predict these things in a new game, but even that's based on experience. Usually you need solid knowledge of the interactions of the moves (by research and gaming experience)
At least for the original console release of SF4, somebody leaked the hitbox data (images for every frame of the move) for all the attacks in the game. Some other games have this data more available.
There's actually a lua script to be able to see the hitboxes in real time for the more popular emulated CPS / CPS2 fighting games. SSF2T:HDR has them in the actual game as an option in training mode, and I think a couple other games do as well, but they escape me at the moment.

Any new players do the same?
Sounds like your stuck in the standard competitive vortex. Just keep playing and eventually you'll get better. I'm pretty much stuck in this same loop as well but I don't mind it too much cause I have fun, and that's really the only point for me playing. I have no aspirations of going to Evo and getting top 8 or anything like that.

gotta do it really early. The timing doesn't look right visually at all. It confused me when I was playing around with him, no idea why it's like that.

See post above mine for video information :p
The interactions are due to frame data, invincible frames and hit box's. You can find all the frame data for AE on event hubs or shoryuken As for hit box's that's something that's a bit harder to find. For the most part its just trial and error and knowing what can beat out what.
For example standard shoryuken has a few frames of start up invincibility which means it has no hitbox to be hit with but it has a hitbox to do damage with for those initial start up frames.

Thanks. I can do it in training mode, but it's gonna take a while to get used since I'm so used to the FADC timing for shotos :/.
btw, we should make a channel on IRC to get pick up games going with tl members
