Other series do it too but take kof, there are plenty of female characters that aren't "inflated tits in your face" lvl of sexy ( sans Mai ofc). I agree with this. I like characters that look sexy. There are just some that are so over the top that they make me cringe and/or roll my eyes. Mai has always felt like a joke character. R. Mika and DoA characters are kinda in the same vein.

Edit: Actually nvm, looks like they switched Kasumi's default costumes for the ps1 version.

Chun was fine too, but she seems to have paid a visit to the plastic surgeon / balloon guy: ![]() That's been fixed haha. And you could argue about Cammy but her look hasn't changed in decades. Viper had insane cleavage and Juri is pretty risky. Idk it seems like people are making a bigger ruckus about this than I expected. Not to mention that's probably the last of the females we'll see until DLC

I play a fair amount of SF4 at the office, and every woman who wants to give it a go will naturally check out all the female characters. Cammy, Viper (the heck is that shirt?), Poison, sometimes Elena or Sakura depending on the prejudice of the person -- reaction is kinda like, "ok I see why you guys play this." That doesn't happen when you go to pick up a game like Smash. Karin, Makoto, and Ibuki's default costume are IMO an OK example of how you can do interesting things with a female character without having their tits or ass hanging out. IDGAF if Cammy has been around since the pleistocene, I dunno why a military-trained woman would turn around and flex her buttcheeks when mission is accomplished. It also looks like Chun got a bit of 'augmentation' in SF5, and her first announced DLC costume IIRC a lot scantier than her default one. It doesn't stop me from playing the game, but it does stop me from playing with a lot of people who would probably otherwise feel more welcome to give it a shot. It's an idiotic move that blocks out an entire demographic who otherwise might be more willing to give it an try.

Unfortunately, the only comments people seem to give on the subject is something along the lines of "y u butthurt fag is just game #yoloswag". Although I feel that R.Mika is a far worse atrocity than Laura, since she looks incredibly plastic and unreal. And no, the Chun-Li thing isnt "fixed". As it was still in the Laura build, check the Momochi vs Laura currently on reddit.

You think shit like this + Show Spoiler + ![]() ![]() Sports bras aren't anymore sexualized than speedos, only in your perception. Maybe you're as equally upset about the male tropes in these games too but it doesn't seem like anyone cares or mentions it. I find that always very odd in these conversations.

Maybe you should tell anyone with that reaction that you only play to see that hot piece of meat Zangief. This is a strawman argument. Zangief isn't a hypersexualized character. If he had a giant throbbing penis half-hanging out of his hammock, maybe then we'd have an apt comparison. The ratio of the male cast that falls into these tropes is also a lot smaller. It's telling that the poster above had to reach back to SF3 to come up with a second example IMO.

It's telling that the poster above had to reach back to SF3 to come up with a second example IMO. It's a shame you can't see past your own bias to see how ridiculous you sound. Any character showing 1/2 their body off is hypersexualized especially given the bodies of 99% of the fighters in the game. If you think Abel's swim shorts aren't sexualized but Poisons crop top and cut shorts are, you're being intellectually dishonest. A super sized unrealistic macho character with little clothes on is the same as a super feminine large breasted woman with little clothes on. The only difference is you are likely attracted to boobs and not washboard abs and tight asses. speedo = swim suit = low cut dress = ripped up clothes = shirtless The only differences is personal perception and bias. Also the Urien example for SF3 was just to show one of the more obvious examples, nearly every male fighter in the USF4 cast has outfits that you could pick to highlight.
